matt78 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 A number of things..Colin Mcrae Rally (the first one) on playstation 1 in 1998ish! Then my brother in law got a P1 in 2001, which I loved! (P***ed on the Escort Cosworth he had before that). And the noise of that flat four!
matt78 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 What made you fall in love with Subaru's?This was mine!!! My first Scoob.................... oh yes!!! Oh the memories.......... Yeah!!! Nice! My dad had a white estate subaru when I was about 15. Can't remember the model though. One of the 'farmers' subarus at the time (he wasn't a farmer though).
monkip1 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 fell in love with the subaru from V-Rally on playstation Then that was it for me hehe
stinger Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 ahh this is a tough one for me to be honest. Ed asked me this when i rocked up to the meet in march, "why did you buy a subaru?" he eventually asked me. I suspect my answer was something less than he was expecting and it wasnt what i was trying to articulate. i mean, who wouldnt want a rally car (almost) that you can drive every day? who wouldnt want a car that makes you smile every time you get into it? i am now on my second scoob, previously i had a bugeye wagon and it was fast, when i traded it in nearly 8 weeks ago (wipes away a tear of nostalgia) the subaru dealer took it for a test drive and came back saying, "i forgot it was that quick, funny how some are quicker than others". what can i say but, i am a speed freak but its not the total speed its the fun of getting there. i mean in a scoob you can have as much fun getting up to 40 and staying there because of the speed limit than you could get all day in another car. every set of lights, every junction, every roundabout and you dont even have to be close to red lining it and then settle at the speed limit to have that little glow inside and the joy etched on your face. so what was it that made me buy one? well i'm afraid our dear departed friend Mr McRae is at fault watching him do his stuff with utter awe and amazement that someone could go that fast in those places and then immersing me in the driving games.
nicky Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 i always wanted one but when i did they was to much money so about 2 years ago when the price came down i got my first and loved it i would never have any thing else
kheldar Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 yeah followed subaru on and off in the mid-late 90's i guess and always wanted one. never thought i would. dealer was just down the road ish from my parents so used to see them when getting petrol. did some contracting in the late 90's and in May 2000 bought a brand new 00 Mica Green Turbo with the gold alloys from the imported P1's. omg how much fun was it - and yes u did not have to drive at 120 to have fun. and the looks it got were good mainly. sure u had a few spotty oiks in nova's trying it on but not for long. but yes how much of a grin did you get each and every time you saw it let alone drove it. even convinced a guy at work about them and he bought an S plate one a few weeks after mine arrived. then in 2002 i got a company diesel laguna.... so sold it. then in Nov 04 i convinced my new wife that it was a sensible family car so we bought my 2nd and current scoob, a WR Blue STi. it still makes me grin to go to it and get in and drive it. and yes it still turns a lot of heads...including today the number of people i noticed noticing me.....errr i mean noticing the STi
Sam B Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 It was a hot hot summers day, Kemble Air field, at a track day we were running. All sorts of cars there, from a very quick old Capri to my lumbering old XJS (not built for track driving I know). One of our customers brought a yellow two door Scoob (no idea of model, too long ago) and when I did the decibel check I was blown away (almost literally), I experience the Scooby burble from a performance exhaust for the first time. He had to pack the exhaust with wire wool to get in under the decibel limit ! Sorry to say the driver was pretty shoddy, packed exhaust didn't help performance and it didn't do as well on the track as it might of done but I was hooked. I've wanted one ever since. Now, I may not be technically a Scooby owner but I put up absolutly no resistance when D decided to buy our WRX and now replaced with the STI. Trouble is he loves it soooo much I never get to drive it. Some day, maybe, one day....I shall up grade my car and become an owner in my own right !
Dorsetdaffodil Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 sadly thinkin i may have to sell my pride and joy .. the only car i've ever bought through choice, not requirement, or economy .... ( cos I know I can't part with her.) Appreciate exactly how you feel mate - we sold the house and moved to a new city and thankfully it has put us in a MUCH better financial position then when we were having to pay a mortgage. We are now loooking at getting a cheap desiel for ed to get to bristol every day whilst i spend spare cash on making the house look nice so we can at least enjoy were we live. I didnt FALL in love with scoobies, i was PUSHED by ed as he saw one in the paper and just would not shut up about how he wanted one, so i phoned the garage and found out they had 2 models, i then arranged a test drive the next day and told ed we were going out! Within a week the deal was done and i soon got into the scene after meeting other owners from the cheshire and lancs group at our 1st ever S.I.D.C Show at Tatton Park. Its no wonder we attend every year to both events cause we have ALWAYS BEEN MADE TO FEEL WELCOME.
kheldar Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Ed goes to bristol each day ? i'm there sometimes at one of our bristol offices. although we're not in the city, we're out at Westbury on Trym. i've got a diesel compnay car atm although it may be going with some job changes going on. certainly could not afford to use the scoob all the time and do the mileage i have over the past few years.....20k+per year.
