scamb3 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Hi guys a wee bit of help needed. Everytime when i accelerate the car will reach about 5k rpm and then all of a sudden it loses all power. After a couple of seconds the power comes back. Any ideas to what the poblem might be? cheers Scott
colin_ross Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Do you have a boost gauge on the car? If so what boost are you hitting when it happens?
scamb3 Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 Do you have a boost gauge on the car? If so what boost are you hitting when it happens? Na i dont have a boost gauge in the car, so not sure what boost im hitting.
colin_ross Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Sounds like boost/fuel cut but you'll need to see what boost you're making to find out. Borrow one for ten mins,
johnnyr6 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 What he says or if it's stuttering could be coilpacks. johnny
thewelsho Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 (edited) MAF unit. That was my guess but I know NOTHING, so it's not that Does boost-cut not feel like the car is hitting a wall rather than just a power loss? Edited April 16, 2008 by TheWelsho
scamb3 Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 That was my guess but I know NOTHING, so it's not that Does boost-cut not feel like the car is hitting a wall rather than just a power loss? The car does feel like it is hitting a brick wall. Took it for a drive today and it was running fine, so not got a clue whats gong on.
ChemX Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Na i dont have a boost gauge in the car, so not sure what boost im hitting. I'm just down the road in Forfar and have just taken a set of gauges inc. a boost gauge of my old classic so if you need a wee shot gives a shout. What year is your car? maybe able to let you try my MAF if its the same, mines is a MY99. John.

I have experienced boost-cut as the car was over-boosting due to a uprated turbo with no remap! I had it installed and was waiitng to get the map done and I got a little carried away and put the boot down. Felt like a hit the wall and the CEL came on.
colin_ross Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 MAF unit. It could be the maf sensor but typically that presents itself as more of a misfire. A total loss power sound more like boost cut to me. Get the boost level checked and if in doubt do an ecu reset and see if it throws a cel up to make sure.
phil_g Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Check the usual problems, 1. MAF 2. Coilpacks 3. Boost hoses 4. Boost solenoid 5. Fuel cut 6. Ecu limp mode 7. Sparkplugs 8. Fuel pump / filter

Can't belive you are driving your car into 1.5 boost-land with induction and sports cat fitted without being mapped! I'd be inclinded to drive off-boost until it was mapped.
