neill54 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 th clutch in my wrx started slipping on saturday during a spirited drive following my mates r6 its only doing it now and again not all the time mainly at about 4.5k is there anything i could do to delay it a bit or is it goosed? and what clutch should i buy? neil
euan_r Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 i would see about getting it done asap, wouldnt want to get stranded anywhere and then have recovery cost too maybe. could drive it about a while yet but slowly building up speed especially around the revs where turbo kicks in. what power you running? if standard nothing wrong with 230mm standard exedy and flywheel skim.
johnnyr6 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I've been running around with my clutch slipping for a few months now. That's more to do with me not having the time to fit another at the mo and not really bothered if it gives up completely (although it prob won't). As euan says the exedy clutch is ok, also i've had a borg and beck in mine for over 4 years now, withstood crail, and knockhill, only started slipping due to me hitting 1.5bar boost a few times. Johnny. In saying that i'll prob go for the exedy next.
fraser87uk Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Im using an AP racing cutch and so far am very pleased with it.
neill54 Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 im looking at some prices just now was really looking at something that can cope with some extra power if i want to go that route in the future seems only to be happening in 4th today feels weird! neil
fraser87uk Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Hey i will get you a price 2moro for a good clutch. Might as well do the flywheel if you an afford it as well.
david_taylor Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Its a tricky one. Mine started to slip one day when I sat on the biting points at lights on a steep hill. When I dropped the clutch it slipped like hell and just revved. Car was MY00 Classic with 100k on clock Slipped again a few times on the way home and again in the morning, so I booked it in at my mates garage. Stopped slipping in the week up to getting the new one fitted. My mate spend nearly all day doing it and looked well p'd off when I went to get it that night. I was met with " I am never doing one of those feckers again!" Thing is he showed me my old one and told me it still had plenty life in it. Most likely overheated the clutch that day, but was defo not a need to do job. £400 pound bill though, and he dont charge me much for labour. Ouch. Calculated risk though as it could go or actually be in the same state mine was and be good for a good bit longer.
