Carson Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Get the supplier to send them as a "gift" or for bigger items as a "sample" But I never told you that u ebay monster
colin_ross Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Don't mark it as gift. Some make it through but if it attracts attention you may never get it. Either play the value down, but be sensible, or mark it as a replacement part.
fai17 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Either play the value down, but be sensible, or mark it as a replacement part. The best bet...
scooby222 Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 thanks, do you just ask the company thats sending it to mark it as that? its some fairly bulky stuff unfortunately so im pretty sure itl be noticed
gus the bus Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 thanks, do you just ask the company thats sending it to mark it as that? its some fairly bulky stuff unfortunately so im pretty sure itl be noticed From the states they are sent with a lable on them which the sender marks up accordingly. Never had a problem with larger stuff that is marked up "SAMPLE" but, it depends what the company @ the other end are like and whether they are willing to do that for you
col666 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 A lot of the american companies can be tossers when it comes to import duty, I ordered a camera lens recently and they refused to reduce cost on package or mark as sample etc....cost me £164 in tax!!! Had no problems getting bits from hong kong though!
st3ph3n Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I find the same Col. American companies follow one of two attitudes - bend over backwards to help you out, or stick completely to the letter of their law. The Hong Kong companies are always good for marking things down. I once got 20 mini remote control cars through the post as a sample
jodie typeRA Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 i see this every other day dont put it as a gift (it might get through and might not) .cutoms have wised up to that +it dont mater iff its a gift at the end off the day its not yours untill you sing for it so thay can/ will put a charge on it .... get the sender to leave the value off the paperwork and to tick the wee box for sample off merchandise. iff you can get the sender to email you a receipt insted off puting it in the box this should help you out aswell (customs can open your box iff thay see paper work for the goods and a value you will get stung ) dont let them know i told you ...
st3ph3n Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I must admit to not really minding paying tax - as long as it's not taking the piss. What gets on my goat is the handling fee. I've had stuff shipped in that cost me like £20, had to pay tax on it of next to feck all but then been stung by Parcel Farce for £10 handling. That's theft in my book. I didn't ask for them to handle it, I'd quite happily have declared the tax myself.
cullenmin Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 its some fairly bulky stuff So what you after then dave? Turbo? Headers?

dan_jess Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I bought an Apexi power intake off ebay from Hong Kong. Price was £45. About a week after it arrived i got a letter from TNT saying they wanted £40 off me for some reason, said they had to pay the money and they were now charging me. TNT man that delivered to my old work told me to ignore the letter!
