thewelsho Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 This is embaressing but, when I check my oil, one side of the stick says its low and when a turn it over, the other side says its just right! What is that about and what side do I go with?
corsa Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 The middle. measure both halfs, measure the overall length of dipstick, divide by three and your level should be bang on.
cullenmin Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Its not embarassing, its a good point. I have seen this on my old uk turbo but I just went for a happy medium, as long as both sides were within the limits, and check it now and again! Rich
BJM Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I've got to admit, I found it impossible to get a good clear reading on my last car ('06 wrx), manged to overfill it. Spotted it thou and out with the drain plug. I cannot believe how awkward it is to check the level. I now just aim for half way between. Anyone else have any tips?

bogie Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 yep noticed this on most of my scoobs. Check 1 high Check 2 low Check 3 just fine Just a tad annoying! I can mind my 306 S16 had and oil level guage (used the oil pressure guage) when you turned the ignition on, was handy but being a ****ebag I still used dipstick occassionally!

What is that about and what side do I go with? The reason your levels are different on both sided of the dipstick is due to the angle the dipstick enters the sump, it doesnt go straight in but at a very steep angle, a result of this is that unlike most other cars where the difference between max and min on the dipstick is around 1 litre, the scoobs is only 1/2 litre (ish). As to what side to take the reading off, when you pull the dipstick out look at the left hand side this will be the top of the dipstick as it sits in the sump giving you the level of the oil, just ignore the other side Cheers Iain Edited March 16, 2008 by Big 'D'

Cheers Iain I see. Cheers for that mate. I guess going for the halfway between the two idea, is the way to go. J
