frank c
Right folks.. Anyone looked into these before or know anything about them ? It's time to look into exhaust systems for when I get my new toy so I thought I'd start with the down pipe.. I know the sports cat route sounds a tad gay compared to the de-catted one but I wont be chasing any numbers this time round and I can't be bothered putting the OE one back on come MOT time so it has to be emission friendly and so thought I'd look into these. What do ya think ? (flame suit ready) cheers. Link to comment

TBH, when I do it this time round I'll be looking at a sports cat as well, CBA having to swap exhausts over for MOT's and would prefer not to get caught out at a roadside test either. Had the full decat on the old 94 Turbo but as it's meant to only decrease the bhp by a few it hardly seems worth not having a sports cat on (other than price obviously). Iain. Link to comment

thefastone
Hey Frank, I'd doubt that anyone is ignoring the thread, but its the weekend, so perhaps it a quiet few days for a good answer... I seem to remember there being a couple that springs to mind, but as theres other things happening with me today, I'm at a blank... Theres the Ninja one that Scoobyworld do, the PPP sports cat, and I think that TSL? do one too? I belive that Wullie at Meercat could do you one also... I think that they are the popular choices, but then I couldn't say for sure, as for CEL numbers, Ive got that wrong before, so I'm not going to post them up again just now, I think that someone will help you with that and which of those is best in a bit mate... Hope that little helps you though mate...? Link to comment

I have heard lots of good things about their sportcat downpipe and am positive Welsho(john) has one on his rocket. I must admit i am tempted by the sportcat route when i am changing the downpipe and will be going to meercat for this. Link to comment
frank c
Will Meercats sports-cat downpipe definately pass an emissions test if the rest of the exhaust is de-catted ? I read somewhere the Ninja one might not pass on imports but are ok on uk models.? They're not the cheapest things to buy so i'd like to choose the right one first time round.. I would imagine some cats are bigger than others between the different brands, does this make a difference ? cheers. Link to comment

speech
I've got the Scoobyworld Ninja 100cel one on my MY03WRX, like you couldn't be bothered with changing come MOT time. You want 100cel rather than 200 as it's free-er flowing, and on the Newage you should pass an MOT with just this, I'll find out in November if this is true since I've removed the other 2 cats and only have the sportscat in the downpipe. Richie Cross
I've got the Meercat one. Got the sportscat/decatted downpipe and centre section with the Prodrive backbox. Easily passes the emissions test. When Wullie fitted mine, before handing it back he went off and got it tested and there's was room to spare. I posted the figures at the time. I'll have a look and see if they're still about. As everyone else will tell you, the work is second to none. Lovely marine grade s/s. It's also a 100 cell. thewelsho
Frank, been called a lot of things in my time, but no one has ever called me gay!!! Yes, I have a sports cat on my car, but as far as passing an emmisions test, I have no idea in practice, only the say-so of others as to whether it will pass an MOT or not. AndyF told me during mapping that a full decat would be worth another 20 or 30 bhp (if I remember correctly). Not really worth the hassle of using an illegal system (I get pulled for number plates, no need to give plod more reasons to pull me!). In the end, my car got 343/400 with the sports cat and VF34, plenty for me (hahaha, we'll see about THAT - says the little devils voice on my shoulder!). If you are not concerned about numbers, why even bother? If its sound, I can't say that the sound of my car is really any louder with the sports cat. Link to comment
Richie Cross
Here we go. Can't remember all the parts of the test. With regards to the results....where the max allowed was 0.20%.....my reading was 0.08%. Another one (can't remember what) had a max allowed of 230ppm....reading was 6ppm and the lambda was allowed 0.97 - 1.03 and my reading was 1.01 so all within. Link to comment

thefastone
I'm guessing that no matter what size system you are using 3" or 2.5" the mouth of the Downpipe is the same size, it just narrows to the size of the system that you want... Or have I got the question wrong? Link to comment
gus the bus
Greetings from across the pond -10 and snowy/sunny here in Nova Scotia. Just thought I'd make a wee visit Frank, remember Paul can also make you up the 100cell sportcat DP for a VERY reasonable price Most DP's are in 3" pipework but will narrow to 2.5" at the flange if your running a 2.5" system or remain @ 3" all the way thru if you are running the 3" system. Anyhoo, Off out sledging noo Edited February 25, 2008 by Gus the Bus Link to comment
frank c
lol..Gus.. I didnae think you were due back yet , now away and enjoy your holiday.. So many choices ..............All i know is that i want a s/cat down pipe , resonated mid section and a back box that's emissions friendly and road legal.. cheers Link to comment
C_WRX
Reckon there might be a few people interested in this outcome from Meercat, myself included. Looked in to sportcats DP a while back but everything seemed expensive (never tried Meercat though), especially when you add on fitting and then a remap. Mind you, who every thought improving an Impreza would be cheap !! Link to comment
shane
This is the route I'm considering going down so I'd be interested too. Would enough interest on here generate a discount for a group buy ? Link to comment
fai17
Peter, is my DP 3-inch going into 2.5? I'll pass on that one as i didn't spec it. but if yours already have a 2.5inch system then yes it would be a bell mounth going to 2.5inches then. Link to comment
