Lainey Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Well been a scooby owner for only 9 months and found out today that the car I bought is a Cat C Write off worth 10 grand less than I paid for it. Not a great start to being a scooby owner and only found out by pure chance re the write off.

Mate not being funny but when buying any car you should always have an HPI report done as minimum, I always go for the AA inspection which includes HPI. Your not the first person to be caught out like that, just a shame it's a very expensive lesson to learn. Did you buy from a garage if so you may have some sort of comeback.
oobster Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Sorry to hear that Lainey - hope you manage to get something sorted. Welcome to the club - I see you have my car as your avatar though?
Lainey Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 yes a HPI check was done at the time by the garage but due to private plate change at the same time, it was not picked up The garage have offered another car to replace the dodgy one, but tbh I loved my car and another one is just not the same.

Hi Oobster You wouldnt believe it, but it is a red scooby that we are being offered in exchange, have to change the silver wheels to white ones as well though, hope you dont mind!! real copycat mode

If they have offered another car i would take it as long as it's well checked out and another scoob, the HPI should still have picked it up tho

Not getting stung twice, surely cant have that bad luck ..... can I?

scoobyseller555 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) it was me that spoke to you today m8 at ian grieves, that is absolute crap about the plate change,an abi condition is applied to any vehicle as soon as the claim is made, therefore it would show up on hpi immediately, there is also a £10000 indemnity on these reports so if the information you are given is incorrect there is comeback(hpi experian etc.) Gav Edited February 13, 2008 by scoobyseller555
nick pikey-ra Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 it should also say on the bottom of the front page of your v5 i know cause this is where it says it on mine i also found out the hard way
scoobyseller555 Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 it should also say on the bottom of the front page of your v5 i know cause this is where it says it on mine i also found out the hard way This is only true if the car has changed hands and the dvla have updated the info on the v5,in this case the car was in the trade so only the v5/3 supplement would have been sent away so therefore no details changed until the person that bought the car recieved the v5 through the post,by which time its too late. thefastone Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Bad News mate, But at least you are getting another car in its place... Although I hope that they are giving you some thing better to make up for the trouble...
