thewelsho Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I hate having to take a trip for V Power more than once a week purely on the basis of the cost of it and the crappy MPG I get, so I run with the light on for a bit so that I can strech out every tankful to the max (silly, I know). I filled up today after the light came on last night (during a spirited spurt I might say) and the tank took 54.99 litres! Talk about cutting it fine.

Yir some boy I dinnae think I've ever let the steed go below a 1/4. My way o thinking is the fuel pump'll be sookin' a the crap up fae the bottom of the tank - and that does naebody any good. You obviously dae alot more miles than me tho' - £50-ish each time, ooooya !!!
RA Dunk Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 My way o thinking is the fuel pump'll be sookin' a the crap up fae the bottomof the tank - and that does naebody any good. true, your probably doing more ill than good John , i hardle ever let it get below 1/4 a tank myself
thewelsho Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 true, your probably doing more ill than good John , i hardle ever let it get below 1/4 a tank myself Yeah I know I am, but I can't start going over the £60 a week I already spend, which is already too much... Stupid V Power cr4p! I hate it!
scouk Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I filled up today after the light came on last night (during a spirited spurt I might say) and the tank took 54.99 litres! Talk about cutting it fine. Doesn't the newage have a 60litre tank? That's still another 5.01 litres you coudl have used!! Most I had was 57litre full up.. that was driving about 35-40 (careful) miles with the light on.. until I found a V-Power station..
RA Dunk Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Yeah I know I am, but I can't start going over the £60 a week I already spend, which is already too much... Stupid V Power cr4p! Guest Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Surely the fuel goes out from the bottom of the tank anyway??? and what do u think fuel filters are for??

Must do as I once filled up long after the light came on, the needle had even gone beyond the empty mark. It took over 56 litres on that occasion.
RA Dunk Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 and what do u think fuel filters are for?? filters block and it costs money to unblock them or replace them
thewelsho Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 Doesn't the newage have a 60litre tank? Correct, what an a55! I had another 18 miles left, could have left my fill up till tomorrow and that would have maintained the one per week!

Guest Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 filters block and it costs money to unblock them or replace them ok point taken i never let my car go much below a half no point as u just woryy about weather u have enough range to get somewhere in an emergancy
RA Dunk Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 ok point taken i never let my car go much below a half no point as u just woryy about weather u have enough range to get somewhere in an emergancy same here, better safe than sorry TBH , no point waiting till something happens then thinking damn that was a bad idea although you knew in the back of your mind it wasnt a good idea to begin with lol
Big Gordon Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I use a tank a week, but even letting the needle go really low have never been able to get more than 46litres in to it. Car's a 53 plate WRX, do they only have 50litre tanks?
frank c Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I was around a tank a month so thankfully i dont have the same problem. Never usually go under the quarter tank either if, I can help it of course.
higgy Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I was around a tank a month so thankfully i dont have the same problem.Never usually go under the quarter tank either if, I can help it of course. If you were running meth it woulb make it a little cheaper. Higgy Ps and making a little more power

Car's a 53 plate WRX, do they only have 50litre tanks? The Hawkeye design has a 60 ltr tank, I would imagine that the earlier models would be the same. Have a look in your handbook and see what that says.
colzo Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 You`re a true Scotsman John, every penny a prisoner! All the same know what you mean the price of V Power just now would make your eyes water. I think I read in the handbook there are 9 litres of fuel left in the tank when the light comes on.
Carson Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Not sure if im right, But dosnt the car use more fuel when its running low in juice ? ,Chris
scouk Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Not sure if im right, But dosnt the car use more fuel when its running low in juice ? Not heard of that before... To get tehcnical about it, it should infact be more economical as the car is lighter and therefore not requiring as much power/fuel to move the car along..

All the same know what you mean the price of V Power just now would make your eyes water. I think I read in the handbook there are 9 litres of fuel left in the tank when the light comes on. I don't mind spending, it's just that I have an obbession with MPG!!! I'm like one of those people who use 50 bars of soap to wash their hands each time, only I do it with checking MPG. I have always done that and I don't know why! I guess it comes from the time I got my first ever car and didn't earn much, every penny was a prisoner then and I haven't ever gotten rid of that mind set! I think there are two US gallons left in the tank when the light comes on which is about 7.5 litres. Their gallons are smaller than ours. Not heard of that before... To get tehcnical about it, it should infact be more economical as the car is lighter and therefore not requiring as much power/fuel to move the car along.. Yeah, with F1 cars, were every ounce is accounted for!

To get tehcnical about it, it should infact be more economical as the car is lighter and therefore not requiring as much power/fuel to move the car along.. less weight proper service and ecu mapping / new o2 sensor pumped up tires / geom setup = max miles You know what, I think i was told a white lie about the low fuel thing. Mate "mechanic" sayed to me about 4years back while he was servicing my old car that running low on fuel would have strain on the fuel pump or somthing would give me bad fuel econemy and break seals etc etc. fekin swine think he just wanted me to quit stickin 5ers in my car, haha
thewelsho Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 less weightproper service and ecu mapping / new o2 sensor pumped up tires / geom setup = max miles Done all that minus the new O2 sensor; still cr4p!
Carson Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Done all that minus the new O2 sensor; still cr4p! fek buyin a 200quid sensor then though U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), : "replacing an oxygen sensor could result in an improvement as high as 40 percent"
