TURBOEDD Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Why the need for coilovers ?. They might be ott for your needs, especially if your on a tight budget. what would you suggest? a set of shocks and springs from an sti? would this be any better than what i have?
RA Dunk Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 coilovers for road use is a bit of an overkill TBH dude, but if them be`s what you want then go for it
TURBOEDD Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 coilovers for road use is a bit of an overkill TBH dude, but if them be`s what you want then go for it to be honest im not sure what to go for i just thought that coilovers were the best option.
Joe G Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Coilovers are good for the track but not very comfortable on the road. Sti shocks and a set of eibach springs did the job for me.
thewelsho Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) to be honest im not sure what to go for i just thought that coilovers were the best option. Unless you are going to be doing some track work, Id forget coilovers. There is no need to changed the shocks either I don't think. All you really need to do is change the springs. This will lower the ride height and transform the look of the car making it more aggresive and it will handle a lot better too. Be mindful that if you do make hte changes yourself, you will need to have the alignment done. I have a set of springs for sale, but I dunno if they would fit your car or not. I have an MY06 WRX and the springs are Tein, less than a year old. Edited January 27, 2008 by TheWelsho
wilky Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) Coilovers are very extreme for road use, and sometimes hamper putting power down onto the road as the car skips along from bump to bump. On a budget on a MY 2000 classic I would recommend the bilstien inverted struts that came as standard on some models around that time (Cant remember which its been a while since I could recite all that mumbo jumbo) You can usually pick them up second hand and there is a company in scotland who will recondition them when gubbed, I think its in glenrothes. You would need to search. These are ideal for a fast road setup. Onto them I would put eibach springs which are slightly cheaper than the prodrive ones, and there is also less chance of you getting "kid on" prodrive ones sold to you as well. Once that was on the car the geometry I would have dialed in is; front - 1 3/4 degrees camber ( or as near as damn it) 2mil toes in. rear - 1 1/2 degree camber ( or if you cant get it as near as damn it) and again 2mm toes in. This will have the desired effect and make you smile. Hope this helps. Callum W Edited January 27, 2008 by Wilky
wilky Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 is that fast road/track settings wilky? These are my settings, I have put them on every classic I have owned. they make the car razor sharp but you need at least firmer than standard springs to really get the most out of it. As far as tyre wear is concerned, I got 30000 miles out a set of kumho esta driving the car hard, and still got a trackday out of them at the end. Callum W
RA Dunk Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 cheers, once i swap the coilovers and brakes from my UK turbo the the RA i might look into geting this done
wilky Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Just edited the settings, got them the wrong way round, just looked in my notebook.

Good luck Callum W

frank c Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I payed around £220 for a used set of P1 suspension but they don't come around too often. if it's used daily or nothing ott it's maybe worth looking into a set of Eibach springs and KYB adj dampers. Depends on what you want/need really and how much ££'s you have. As mentioned above..decent geometry settings will get the most out of whatever route you go.
