fai17 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 As my engine is coming out for various reason and want to kill 2-3 birds with 1 stone,i was think about getting my heads ported and possibly putting cams and valves in too. Does porting heads make a bigs difference and if so how much? What cams should i possibly look into? Cheers
RA Dunk Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 your engines comming out already? hope its nothing too serious then peter
fai17 Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 your engines comming out already? hope its nothing too serious then peter no...just head gaskets issues
RA Dunk Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 no...just head gaskets issues YOUR NOT LIFTING YOUR HEADS CLEAN OFF YER BLOCK LIKE ANDY DID ARE YA (OOOOPS CAPS) P.S. im still after that pax from ya at knockers lol

the squiggle Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 what you doing to stop them going again? What gaskets did you use Alan in the UK car? For the target boost you are aiming for i would personally port the heads and because you run ALS i would look into upgrading the exhaust valves As for cams i would look for the widest duration and highest lift possible without compromising low end running. JUN do some nice Cam kits for the Newage JDM and i think Toda also do some high power cams
AlanG Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 What gaskets did you use Alan in the UK car? I used Cometic in mine.
johnnyr6 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) Colin uses cometic aswell. As for porting the heads, with the stage your at it will make a difference and with decent cams and pulleys, set up properly couldn.t do any harm. Johnny Edited January 6, 2008 by JohnnyR6
andrew_forrest Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Hi Peter I have used cams from these guys for a few years now. http://www.camshaftshop.com/camshafts/view...ubaru-camshaft/ They are new cams, not regrinds. Head porting is not so critical, speak to Steve W as he can do that for you including setting up valve lash. The way we run your anti-lag on overrun only and not positive boost, the std valves should be fine. The original type of gaskets you used will also be fine however the cometics are only slightly more expensive if you want to use them. cheers Andy

Secondly...what CAMS should i buy from the above shop for my 2.0 STI TYPE UK car? And also can you change the ALS to run positive boost on the overrun? Thanks for reply Andy Edited January 6, 2008 by fai 17

colin_ross Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 As we discussed Peter, cometic gaskets are superior to subaru ones. There isn't a great price difference as Andy said so it would seem like a good move to me. If you are going down the cams route are you going to get the vernier pulleys to to maximise their effect?
andrew_forrest Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 There are many different Cometics out there and some are fine, others are not so good, I'm currently using OE 2.5 gaskets on my race car if you are in any doubt as to their capability ! I can run your anti lag on boost as long as you fit inconel exhaust valves and a WRC type turbo, the latter is circa £10-15k ! Not sure which cams would suit your car to be honest, not many AVCS cars running aftermarket cams at the moment. You don't want to go too wild as you can lose torque, the 264's should work fine http://www.camshaftshop.com/catalogue/547/...199-b-camshaft/ as I can optimise intake cam timing via the ECU. Verniers are not so critical on AVCS cars

Are you sure that the above cams will fit onto my car and do i need the valve springs retainers too? Your advice is such appreciated and as for fitting a WRC type turbo...eh i'll leave it the now. Can you give me a list of to do ref:cams, polishing, valves etc etc? Thanks boss.. BTW....i'm going fishing tomorrow at Abroath for COD. I need retail therapy Edited January 7, 2008 by fai 17
