Got Conviction Through

Recommended Posts

As you may remember from my motoring year from hell including several expensive mechanical failures and killing the car. One my own doing was getting caught doing 90 on the Stepps Bypass. Never trust a road angel!!

I pleaded guilty by post and prepared for the conviction. Luckily the Police must have included in there report that they did not find it dangerous or wreckless as stated to me at the time. Judge did not call me up and got letter through the post today:

5 points and a £200 fine. Think its a fair enough sentence for the crime.

Another reason why I dont plan to get a new scooby for a wee while. Temptation is big in the impreza, time for me to chill for a while.

Still waiting for my insuarance offer, then will be looking for a nice TDI.

Lesson well and truly learned. What annoys me is all the wee neds that speed in built up areas and towns, where its really dangerous.

But I broke the law so taken it on the chin!

In a 50mph limit dave? I think you done well!

Wouldnae really agree, think he was making a wee example

of ya there !! Was done for 72 in a 40 on the bike along the kingsway,

went to court and got 4 points and £125 fine. You judge obviously didnae

like the sound o yir name or somethin' Never mind mate

we all get caught bonny sometimes, chin up.

Au contraire... a few years back i had heard of people getting 5 or 6 points and £150-200 fine for doing between 70 and 75mph on both that road and the M8 just before the Kingston Bridge, so wouldn't say that was setting an example.

However, this isn't the point. The OP has put his hands up and admitted what was wrong was wrong and taken the consequences placed upon him.

The only good thing to come out of it is at least the stress of worrying about it is now gone.

A possible thought there Vicki. Going to use some of my insurance to pay the fine all at once. Hopefully getting a car in a lower insurance group against the points should mean I can swap the insurance over without extra cost!

Yeah Davie, Having done the Court thing personally years ago (prolly different circumstances, and on a bike) I know how you feel about not wanting to go there, and that points and fine was pretty good considering, I might have though that was an auto-ban...

Although getting the straight ban, and skipping the points is better if you can live with a short ban instead... even if you do need to go to court to get it...

but then I suppose it depends on teh circumstances...

Fair play really, I admire your view, Done the crime doing the time kinda attitide... good on you mate, also cant blame you for taking a step down car wise... try your luck later in the day mate!

I got a 6 month ban years ago from an accumulation of points. Driving a 1.2 Nova, a 1.5 Integra and a 1.8 Mondeo. Never got done in my Punto GT (nippy little machine), so the car doesn't make a difference in my opinon. They can all be driven outside the law!

And yeah, having a pompous judge give me one point more than the ban limit (ie 4 instead of 3) just so he could ban me was enough to keep me out of court since. At least on motoring offences!

Breast of duck

Its a pity we dont have the English Law for traffic offences. They seem to prefer giving out short bans rather than points.

My mate got caught doing 106 in England on a 60 Limit. He sold his M3 expecting a long ban.

Got a 2 week ban and 120 pound fine! To make it even more ironic, he was offshore while the ban stood!

Prefer that thinking to Scottish Law!

Yes, but doesn't the insurance companies frown more on that than points?

He said its not even added 10% onto his premiums. But hes loaded anyway, so could not care less on the cost!
