Bulding A Track Car

Recommended Posts

i read the post the other day about whats wrong with sidc here is my contrabution to the site

over the next few weeks i will post up the mods to our new track car

first 2 mods 27 mm rear anti roll bar and diff x member bush kit-------here goes

2007_1021wheels0304.jpg

2007_1021wheels0324.jpg

always secure your car on stands before working underneath it

2007_1021wheels0305.jpg

this is a pic of underneath showing the rear bar and drop-link plastic type the bar is 19mm

then we removed the wheels after securing on stands---always check you car is steady before getting underneath i always leave the jack under if possible

2007_1021wheels0310.jpg

the d/links are held on by 2 long bolts 14mm bolt head size some can be 12mm you should never see a 13mm bolt on a jap car as 13 is unlucky

2007_1021wheels0308.jpg

this is the arb bracket that links the bar to the body to give it lateral support, the bkts house the bushes that the bar sits in

2007_1021wheels0319.jpg

2007_1021wheels0311.jpg

this is the bkt conected and disconected only one 12mm bolt holds it on

2007_1021wheels0314.jpg

note the difference in size black bush 19 mm yellow 27 mm

once removed from car you can offer up the new bar coating it with grease to lube the bush seat

2007_1021wheels0312.jpg

you can see the difference in size of the 2 bars here

2007_1021wheels0313.jpg

the old drop link and new link in alloy with poly bushes

the new arb in place with drop link bolted up .the bar is a blade adjustable with 3 settings the middle hole for firm road use and hole nearest the rear is good for track use buy just moving the bolt you can adjust the roll resistance

this job is easy to carry out and gives great benifits in handling

mod no 2 rear diff mount bushes .one of the problems with the impreza is on fast gear changes up or down, you can experience transmision thump caused by the diff x member moving up and down this sound drives me mad

2007_1021wheels0321.jpg

the mount for the diff , there are 2 one on each side

2007_1021wheels0324.jpg

the poly bush kit to take all the movement out of the diff mounts

you only have to remove 3 bolts to do this mod and remove the mount plate bkt to fit bushes(note you do not remove old bushes you are spacing the gap between the body and the original bush

2007_1021wheels0325.jpg

2007_1021wheels0326.jpg

2007_1021wheels0327.jpg

2007_1021wheels0329.jpg

again this is an easy job to complete and gives great benifits to handling ,no noise difference is noticable when driving

this is the first mods carried out and the difference is unbelieveable

if anybody wants any info on how to do these mods pm me geo

Do you plan to shim the steering rack to get rid of the bumpsteer?

One of the best modifications I had after I had fitted MRT solid droplinks.

no the plan is to fit modified ball joints and longer track rod ends after the 3way coil-overs are delivered from japan in 3weeks time

the c/overs are the first in the country a new type with external gas canisters and with adjustable bump and rebound settings.

dougster its nice to have a decent conversation with you for a change geo :)

think the rear subframe kit is a good addition too. took me a good while to track the noise i was experiencing down to it. wasted a lot of time removing/refitting exhaust several times as i though that was the problem.

bushes are very soft on the impreza they can all be improved easily geo

I'm loloking forward to the rest of this thread. Can't beat a good project B)

Why a 27mm arb Geo ? I'd only heard of 22 and 24mm.

because of track use and the 3 way coil-overs we are going to use but it works on a road car also with 3 adjustments geo

george, have you ever tried the uprated arb mounting kit or welding up the mounting brackets? I've heard this is good for the track.

Johnny

i will modify the bkts later after the roll cage goes in, ill do all the fabrication at the one time its a big job, but a good point to bring up road cars dont req this mod but its better to do it on a track / rally car

keep the questions coming geo :iagree:
