Bigger Turbo Time?

Right, after recent e-mails with Mr Forest I'm thinking of going for the VF34 turbo for the Fozzy :driving:

What else would i need to buy along with the turbo.

Got or getting full decat system, Walbro 255 fuel pump, Cotton filter. what else do Ii need to get with/for the turbo upgrade or is it a simple swap over.

and is £450 a good price for the IHI VF34 item?

Wouldn't like to comment on what else is needed along with the turbo given its not an Impreza, but it looks like you have all the bases covered, injectors maybe?. My VF34 cost my £420 with 8000 miles on it, so looks like you are getting a good deal.

John,

Its the exact same engine and original turbo in the Forester as your WRX :driving: . Did you change the injectors?

Nope! Nor did I change the pump. Is your turbo new/recondition/2nd hand?

Need to find out if the Fozzy has a cat in the Uppipe, if so then decat that as well

Try and source a CAI for the it as well, this will give really good results on the VF34 after mapping

Maybe a Fuel Pressure Regultor as well to add a wee bit of safety if the Duty Cycle goes to high on std pressure

Result after this lot should be one fast Fozzy

Cheers Grant. Knew you wouldnt be far away

Pretty sure there is a Cat in the uppipe :( I believe it comes complete with a fuel pressure regulator but if no I'll be sure and get one :D

Wasnt sure about the CAI route. but looks like I'll need top speak to API or the likes ;)

dont take this the wrong mate but the turbo seems too cheap.

maybe do a search on scoobynet and see if anyone else has bought from jawarehouse.

also bear in mind the chances are you will be hit with some duty charges.

Sound's like you got a bargain Gus, i remember i paid over £600 for a Garett turbo for my Uno turbo & that was ten years ago.

No worries Jim :D . It was three people on the Subaru Forester forum that put me intouch with JAwarehouse (not through fleebay) as they had bought their VF34's from them and had them delivered within 4-5days. Noticed when i was doing the fleebay search that they advertised on there too ;)

Its just this feckin country that rips us off!!!!

Even with duty it still a BIG saving on UK prices from what I've read/ researched

That turbo on a 2.5 will go really really well with the proper breathing. The VF34 on a 2.5 will make that figure depending on Andys final map which will be based on how you want the car to drive.

Maybe look at upgrading the top mount as well and intake pipes to make sure she sooks as well as she possibly can.

Concur with this, some of the turbos soming out of Japan are not what they seem. Do your research and ask the right questions about cooling pipes and oil pipes and compatibilty with your current TD04 or whatever hairdryer that is currently residing there the noo, think it is a TD04

Seen a few Front Entry TD05 units that are fake as fake can be. The have old recon cores that are only oil fed and should be only used on old style diesel engines. These units can be identified by the lack of Water feeds and returns

deffo a good price mate if its the real thing,i bought 2 from japan about a year ago(diferent supplier)for slightly more than that.1 got through no probs, the other i was charged an extra £22 so not bad.

as you say were ripped off big time over here thats why i buy most bits from japan or usa, even with duty etc its a big saving.

you cant go wrong with a vf34 either mate-quick spooling and pulls strongly all the way to the red line

Jim, who did you buy from? As I'll compare and see what looks best.

Like you, all the Forester parts so far have come from America, Japan and New Zealand

Need to make sure you get the correct banjo bolts for the IHI VF34. The wrong banjo bolt can delay spool quite significantly.

The TD04 is made by Mitsubishi and the VF34 is made by IHI.

What are you on about?

Banjo bolts????

What are you on about?

The wee bolty things that connect your oil supply pipe to the core of your turbo.

The two different types of turbo have two different types of wee bolty things wi a hole and if you use the wrong one then the turbo disnae like it and it causes to mich drag on the main shaft which in turn can delay the spoolin of the turbo thingy

Hope this explains what i am on about or is it still clear as mud

I was all set for the APS CAI system for my car but after a chat with Mr F about it he recommended staying with the stock airbox, green panel and a dedicated cold air feed rather than the inner-wing kit... something to do with the bend disrupting airflow and confusing the MAF in some cases. I'd rather not take the risk and can live without the noise, so stock airbox for me. :D

This will be a really fast Foz...... be brilliant to see it finished off.

Cheers,

Grant
