RA Dunk Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Here we go again the classic/newage debate i'm with you Welsho newage rule Stevie i was hoping for a wee bite from john there but he wasnt having it lolz
thewelsho Posted October 11, 2007 Author Posted October 11, 2007 Aye, had a quick look ,the site advertises the car no too bad.. So is it 270 bhp and loads of torque, with it being a 2.5 ? It's basically a WRX with PPP, 270ps (1ps = 96% BHP, I thnk) and 420 Nm torque, though I have no idea what an Nm is.
colzo Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 John, with the age of your car its probably the worst time to trade in as the car will depreciate badly. Also dealers will not be interested in any of your mods as they will invalidate the warranty. I`ve had the same feelings when it comes to cars, a couple of wee niggles then a new model comes out then its out with the calculator! You`ve got the power and with a few cosmetic mods you could have your car looking like a GB270. whatever you do I hope you`re happy.

I'd take most of the mods off, the only mod left woudl be droplinks and wheels. I have already had some warrany work done with the mods, so warranty would be ok.
Double Zero Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 It's basically a WRX with PPP, 270ps (1ps = 96% BHP, I thnk) and 420 Nm torque, though I have no idea what an Nm is. Torque is a measure of how much twisting is applied, the metric unit of torque is Newton Metre in inch units, torque is usually measured in Lb-Ft or Lb In. Stevie

Double Zero Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 So how many ft/lbs of torque is 420 Nms? 569 John with my calculation's. Stevie
jimser Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 So how many ft/lbs of torque is 420 Nms? about 310lb/ft john jim
frank c Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 569 John with my calculation's.Stevie Is that before or after the PPP
Double Zero Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Is that before or after the PPP Mmmm probably after me think's Stevie
gus the bus Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 John, Dinnae throw good money away mate You could get all that the 270 has for a lot less than burning £7 on your car just my opinion like
G.T. Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 ive seen one of those they are very nice, the guy at S&S usually isnt too bad with trade ins, bit of come and go usually. have you not just spent a wad on yours gettin it mapped abigger turbo etc etc dunno if id be so keen to change so soon after all your mods
sti pretender Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 John after all that work time and effort it would be a shame to let your car go. I know you've had a few problems but your car is stunning and defo stands out from the crowd.
the squiggle Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Keep it man after taking it to such perfect power levels The 270 will feel slow after your current steed If you have to do it then get more for the car privately as a Dealer would not care one jot what has been done to it Is it still running like a bag of poo?
colzo Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I'd take most of the mods off, the only mod left woudl be droplinks and wheels. I have already had some warrany work done with the mods, so warranty would be ok. I was thinking more of the Andy F mods mate. 569 John with my calculation's.Stevie 569 lbs/ft torque! I`m buying a GB270, stay off the sauce Stevie boy.
RS Grant Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Whats up with your current car mate?? I also thought that things were all good after your visit to Port Seton recently.... have I missed something?! A GB270 is a nice car (we've got one sitting in the showroom at work) with a lot of nice bits on it (Sat Nav, Interior etc) and with the PPP the WRX is actually quicker than a standard STi... however, I think you'd be a bit disappointed with the overall performance after driving your current car........ is it not around 380bhp and 390lb/ft?? If you dont have problems with Warranty work on your car even with all the power/handling mods you've done then I dont really see the benefit of going to a new Hawkeye?! You can get a full re-trim for 1500quid and a decent Sat-Nav system for about 800quid......... which is way less than taking the hit on depreciation on your own car. If you've reached the end of the line with your current car then fair enough, gotta call it a day at some point.. in which case, the GB270 is a decent option if you're going for a more sensible and all-round package, but I'd also consider a pre-owned Hawkeye STi which comes with uprated parts, dccd, suede interior etc all as standard. Cheers, Grant
fai17 Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 For 7k.....i would spend it on mods and keep your car.
andrew_forrest Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 How about a set of forged pistons, sti intercooler and Garrett bolt on turbo John ? 400/400 with ease, 450/450 if you add bigger injectors. Then you need to start saving for a gearbox though
thewelsho Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 How about a set of forged pistons, sti intercooler and Garrett bolt on turbo John ? 400/400 with ease, Yes please!
kebab nemesis Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Having seen both the wagon and saloon in the flesh I personally would go fo the wagon if I was thinking of changing. Whichever one you went for would be in car terms a reasonably sound investment judging by the look of the new Impreza.

billyboy Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 I would have thought they would have been sold out by now? Grampa Billy
thewelsho Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 I would have thought they would have been sold out by now?Grampa Billy There is one sitting in the showroom, lovely!
billyboy Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I thought about getting one but its the usual stuff "Oh i can only give you this for your car" never mind the fact that most of our cars are mint and well maintained. Then you look a couple of weeks later and they are making a stupid amount of profit on your trade in.But thats the way it works and they know you really really want one so you pay for it in the end.
oletam Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I've got a 56 WRX with PPP. Probably about the same as the GB270 performance wise, but after reading your post after visiting AndyF, I've gone for a simlar set up to yours. Remap on Friday coming. Keep what you've got imho
