granby Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I’ve been a member of Kent Scoobies for 3 & half years and in that time I’ve seen quite a few highs & lows, as you probably know I normally sit on the fence with regards to the running of Kent Scoobies mainly because 1. I don’t like to rock the boat and hope things will blow over 2. I honestly don’t like to offend people But I feel now is the time for me to speak up I believe something needs to change, for whatever reason I think Pele doesn’t have the drive/enthusiasm/commitment/time to run Kent Scoobies the way it should be, as Pele says in a post it needs 100% commitment which unfortunately I haven’t seen for quite a while, I don’t think anybody can deny what Pele has done for Kent Scoobies and if it wasn’t for her we probably wouldn’t be here now having this discussion, but that is all in the past and while that was great we need to think of now & the future of Kent Scoobies. Now I’m sure there are members who will disagree with me on this (which is fine as we are all individuals) but I know there are also quite a few members who agree with me, this also brings me to another point, the so called divide we have in the club. When members have a different opinion on something is that a divide, no it’s called human nature, when we are at a meet and members go off into groups for a drink and a chat is that a divide, once again no because it’s human nature, in fact get any number of people together for whatever reason and they will always form groups to chat, I know it’s not easy for newbie’s sometimes (remember I was one once) but it is a 2 way thing but I do agree we should make more of a effort welcoming new members. I’ve noticed a few members have put my name forward for the RO and I am extremely flattered that members even think that I would be capable of doing the job, although I have never actually said I wanted to do the job if there was enough support then yes I would be happy to take up the challenge and give it my best shot. Finally I would like to say I have made a great many friends on Kent Scoobies and the SIDC who I hope will remain friends even after I/we no longer have Subaru’s, we are all part of this club because of the love of our cars and the friendship it brings with other owners but most of all the club should be a fun place to be where we can have a laugh and not take things too seriously. Thank you Ian
eureka Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 very well put ian very diplomatic as you know, you have my vote on this situation and you would recieve full support from me. HAIL GRANBY
Scooby Hoo? Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 (edited) I would welcome Ian as the club's and SIDC's new RO. THE FUTURES BRIGHT THE FUTURES WITH GRANBY Edited October 10, 2007 by Scooby Hoo?
HOL Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I think the running of everything is too much for one person. I would rather that the SIDC represenative for Kent concentrated on the organisation for the attendance of SIDC related events. I think Ian would suit that role perfectly. [until he gets married and has Kids ] I would also like to see more open membership involvement in the ownership and organisation of non-SIDC 'Kent Scoobies' Events. Perhaps even an annual tenure where a new person takes on a 'Parent role' every January.

baser999 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 MS"]I'll upset the apple cart by saying that I'm more than happy for Ian to take on the role of SIDC R/O but would much prefer a 'team' in place to run Kent Scoobies. I believe that we're all of the opinion that its too much of a role for one person to take on and with Peles other commitments its a case of appointing new faces or people to help her by sharing the load.
matthew_buckland Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I fully agree Pele does need help to carry the load. Hopefully the meet on sunday will determine who can help and in what capacity.
dazzlers82 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 very well said granby also i think as already said granby can do one an pele do the other an if either of these 2 people need help then they can ask each other or ask other members or appoint other members to help them do differrent things as we are all part of the club an should not rely on these two pwoplw to organise an do everything on there own
kaan_ors Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I agree with lots of the above. Members need to remember that the likes of Pele, Granby and others involved in organising events do it as volunteers and for the love of the club. There are enough stresses and strains in life without making our hobby one of them. One of the reasons I joined Kent Scoobies was becasue of the write up on the front page of the website (I've just looked and it's not there now) but it mentioned events, bbqs and family days which all sounded like a cool chilled out club that likes to get together and enjoy itself. Whilst I may not be one of the most committed members (due to a work/life balance!) I do enjoy the meets and the likes of Pele, Granby, Yogi, Trev and PD Tony (I don't wish to miss anyone out but I don't know everyones names) have always made me feel welcome. Others haven't been so friendly but it's a two way thing and I will put in the effort to speak to everyone in future. It's good to sound off constructively so lets learn from peoples opinions and move forward united as Kent Scoobies. Here endeth the sermon!

Kent Scoobies event Organisation - what needs to happen to promote more events? luke_clifton Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Also scoots was another member to always make me feel welcome.
HairyDJ Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 It's great to see some positive comments and consensus coming through before the Sunday meet - the "divide" had seemed to be growing, so now that the direction has changed - keep it moving closer please folk! We've tended to only make it to a few events - RBMR was fantastic & the curry night at Detling well worth the round trip that night. There are plenty of names that we still don't know, but there have been enough friendly welcomes that I would hope to be seeing you folk at SIDC gatherings and other Kent events throughout 2008. Maybe we're easier to spot than some newbies, but plenty of you have always been friendly enough to keep us coming along whenever we are passing nearby. As occasional visitors, I suspect that we have tended to home in on the folk that we remember from last time - maybe we should bowl up to the "strangers" next time, or maybe the regulars need to push us across with a quick intro? There's always a risk that the newbies will end up meeting & greeting each other as they're the ones standing around on their own! I hope that there will be some good, positive progress come out of Sunday's meeting - a small step in the right direction is better than a leap in the wrong one, so keep it calm and avoid giving or taking offence as much as you can please? One final point to help me with - if Kent Scoobies does run it's own web site - kill off some of the confusion over different domain names please!! The .com seems to be pending; the .co.uk seems to have just expired and been bought up by someone; the .net points back to SIDC for now - agree which one to use and if the other owners are part of "us" then maybe they will be generous enough to point their visitors to the agreed KS site and to SIDC with just a few words of welcome and an explanation of where newbies will find what they need to join the crowd. Good luck with the meet - waiting for the update on here tomorrow Cheers, David & Chrissy
