scoobyiain Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Steve's type r was the car for cleaning this week and what a job it was. White/silver is not my favourite colours to detail and this one was a pain in the ***. Numerous laps round knockhill has done this cars paint no favours (or my arms). First was obviously the wash which got some of the dirt off it then came the claybar. 5 hours later and i was finished...... not the whole detail but just claying it this is the last car i detail that has been round knockhill as the amount of tar/rubber that was stuck to the bodywork was unbelievable. 3.5 hours was spent claying most of the car and the other 1.5 hours was getting the bugs off the front bumper. After all that i was pretty exhausted but soldiered on and got most of the car finished. The onlt thing left needed to be done is to put a coat of wax on the front bumper, bonnet, front wings and doors but will go and do that another time. Here is some before and after pics of what has been finished, enjoy 50/50 wash afters
thewelsho Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 (edited) Stunning! Much do you charge for getting taking off these awful stickers I have? I have been told it will need not just heat but some kind of solution to soften the adhesive or it will lift the laquer. Edited September 24, 2007 by TheWelsho
cullenmin Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Nice, would love to see it all completely detailed!
micra_wrc Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 good job LoL at "... this is the last car i detail that has been round knockhill as the amount of tar/rubber that was stuck to the bodywork was unbelievable" Had to have a think about who Steve with a Type R is (sorry scientific steve) but twigged as soon as you mentioned Knockhill
z1000 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Nice, would love to see it all completely detailed! Well mine looks as bad as the before picks most of the time so think i'll just save for a respray ! easier than all the cleaning
RA Dunk Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 aye steve got his moneys worth oot of you lol
colzo Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Looking good, can`t believe thats the same car that Steve was showing me at KH. Top job keep up the hard work.
dougster Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) No pictures of the R3s? Was the car machine polished and if so was it taped up? Edited September 25, 2007 by Dougster
t3hWIT Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) You have no idea how much this random picture helps. These decals are impossible to find in the states, so I've been looking to have replicas made. Its hard to find one with the detail though. Also, I didn't know that the foglight covers were notched. I picked up the HTAutos replicas, but now I see that the OEM ones are about the same price... with hardware. Babbling aside, the car looks great man. Edited September 25, 2007 by t3hWIT
RA Dunk Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 These decals are impossible to find in the states theres loads here http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/gene...ntrancehome.asp not cheap though, but thats roger clark for ya lol
t3hWIT Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) theres loads herehttp://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/gene...ntrancehome.asp not cheap though, but thats roger clark for ya lol Thanks for the tip. That's one place I'm hoping to stop on my way up the UK next summer. That, and Prodrive in Warwickshire. If I don't have any made by then, I'll probably pick some up. scoobyiain Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 No pictures of the R3s?Was the car machine polished and if so was it taped up? What's R3's? Yes it was machine polished and taped up as always.
dougster Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Radius R3s are the alloys I had powder coated before Steve bought them from me. Do you have any pictures of the swirl marks as I hope to machine Coulty's car soon.
scoobyiain Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 sorry no pics of swirl marks as it was very dull yest and white is not the easiest colour to photograph. I used menzerna final finish on a megs polishing pad with the pc
dougster Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Do you have a Brinkmann? I could also do with a PDG as I recall the scooby paint not being too great on mine. Coulty's car has areas where it looks like it is cracking but hopefully a machine polish will remove it. I added you to my MSN.
scoobyiain Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 A brickman is the next thing on my list. subaru paint is quite thin compared to most cars but it is tough so you dont take much off with the pc.
scientific steve Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 he he he he he see, the thing is Iain did say to me before hand 'the muckier the better' so being a man of my word, i got if as full of cr@p as poss thats the only reason i went on track no bother Imy, funny how you remembered as soon as knockhill was mentioned colzo, aye, looks like a new car now dont it matey huge thanks to (as someone has mentioned) The Andy F of polishing
the blue dragon Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Yet another top class job Iain, and can sympathise with you re the amount of work involved. Had one very similar last week, although wasnt a detail, just a gold valet, but still had to clay it first(as i normally do) but it took feckin ages. Like you say white & silver are no my favourites either but thats life eh? Are you goin to go full time with this Iain, or just keep it as a sideline? All the best mate Iain
scoobyiain Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 I really want to take this up full time but will prob be next year before i think about it. Happy doing it as a sideline for the moment and saving the pennies
