A hero to many in the sport of rallying, always gave 100% and most of the time a lot more, very tragic for all all his family and friends.

Shocked, stunned and deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life. Colin was truly one of the greats. His unique style and total commitment was awesome to behold.

I think everyones thoughts must be with the families and friends of all those who have been so cruely taken by this tragedy.

May they all rest in peace.

Such a sad loss of a " legend " no other words to describe him, both on and off the rallying scene,

he was the reason i bought a scooby!!

my deepest sympathys go to his family and friends

i have only just joined SIDC i have been thinking about it for a while, but the scenes i have just seen on Sky news made me join,

can i say what a great gesture form the SIDC members to do a drive past his estate, that just goes to show what an inspiration he was to others

you will be missed Colin

may you RIP

Absolutely devastating news. There will never be another driver quite like colin, always giving it 110% in his own flamboyant way.

Colin you will be sorely missed by all.

It is now my deep regret never to have met Colin although I have met Jimmy and Alasdair. I have seen him many times including the old Sunbeam struggling up a steep hill in the forests of Aberdeenshire and lately in his 6R4 in the forests of Perthshire. There is almost 20 years between these 2 events and in that time I followed his career closely and celebrated the success and sympathised with the near misses and failures. Colin McRae took us all the way.

What I liked most was how down to earth he remained despite becoming the superstar. His Lanarkshire family I am sure kept his feet on the ground and he didn't forget his roots. He was often at Scottish national events and resisted the lure to move out of the country for tax reasons.

I am a very sad man and today I mourn his, his son Johnny's, Ben's and Graeme's passing.

The worst feature of getting old is seeing the passing of your heroes. All you can do remember their lives and celebrate what they achieved.

I first saw Colin when i was about 13, he was rallying a Sierra Cosworth in a small event near Pitlochry. I cycled up into the forrests to watch and still have an old picture i took of him tearing past nearly running over my bike!

I followed his career ever since and made sure my first real performance car was a Subaru, just because that was 'his' car.

A true legend, icon, role model. The world will never forget his flamboyant driving style giving it 100% at all times.

Sorely missed, R.I.P Colin-Johnny-Ben-Graeme.

I can't add any more to what everyone else here has said. It's an extremely sensitive time for all concerned. Not only has the world of motorsport lost a living legend, but the world has lost four innocent souls!

It was absolutely down to Colin that I first fell in love with the Subaru brand (Rothmans Legacy) and then through to the Imprezas. He will forever be linked to the brand and Subaru owe a lot of their success to him. It was nice to see the courtege of Impreza drivers showing their respect on the news.

An absolute legend and I am sure, a sorely missed father, son and brother.

My family's thoughts are with the Mcraes at their tragic loss.

I've just joined up today to pay my respects.

I saw the news and as a motorsport fan, like everyone here I am very sad at the news of Colin and his son

and friends.

The drive past that some of you guys did was truely a lovely gesture of respect to a Hero and support to his family.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends and all you guys on this forum on this sad day

I have been following this sad news since my youngest son came into the lounge last night carrying the lap top reading sky news saying Dad you’re not going to believe this. How right he was, I still can’t.

I first met Colin and his Dad in 92 when Malcolm Wilson was running the J113 BPU Escort Cosworth on the Granite City as the A car to clear the course. Colin was in the #1 car, a Legacy, Jimmy was in the #5 car, a sierra Cosworth and Alistair was also there in the #7 car, another sierra Cosworth.

When I was telling my own boys the story tonight they thought I was special when they learned that I had the opportunity to have met Colin McRae. I went and dug out the old photos and showed them the pictures I had taken from the forest roads out the back of Bennachie in Aberdeenshire…..and it brought a tear to my eye because it reminded me who very special I did feel that day just to be stood there on a Sat morning chatting with Colin and Jimmy McRae. How down to earth and friendly they were. Alistair was too busy else where helping to fix the red and yellow Shell sponsored cossie at the time.

Colin is a true legend, a great Scott indeed and he will be very sadly missed by everyone who enjoyed watching him with his full on and courageous driving skills, but what a loss for the McRae family to come to terms with, of course along with the other two families affected in this tragedy.

Our deepest thoughts and condolences to them all, especially his dear wife and daughter, who have lost so much in a husband, son, father and brother.

Jools and family,

Copenhagen

When ever we decide to so something appropriate I will be come home for sure and get the Scooby out of storage to participate.

The roar of a flat four being driven to its limits back in 1995 is what made me want a Scoob, I'll always wish i could drive mine like Colin,

If there is a special stage in heaven then the noise from Colin, Richard and Michael Parks would be deafening,

RIP all those that lost their lives, our thoughts are with all their families and friends.
