About Imprez-ive

  1. I can't add any more to what everyone else here has said. It's an extremely sensitive time for all concerned. Not only has the world of motorsport lost a living legend, but the world has lost four innocent souls! It was absolutely down to Colin that I first fell in love with the Subaru brand (Rothmans Legacy) and then through to the Imprezas. He will forever be linked to the brand and Subaru owe a lot of their success to him. It was nice to see the courtege of Impreza drivers showing their respect on the news. An absolute legend and I am sure, a sorely missed father, son and brother. My family's thoughts are with the Mcraes at their tragic loss.
  2. Here's a quick Streetfire vid of the launch (close up). It looks worse on the show stand.I think they've listened to the Americans too much!!! <a href="http://videos.streetfire.net/video/13c39ac...90d0129d515.htm" target="_blank"><img src="http://thumbs.vidiac.com/13c39acd-5c03-4f2...90d0129d515.jpg" width="115" height="86"></a><br><a href="http://videos.streetfire.net/video/13c39ac...90d0129d515.htm" target="_blank">Click to see Video</a>
  3. What was with the tech spec on the latest STi type-UK? Tom Ford stated that it had 'almost' 280 BHP and would do 0-60 in 5.4 secs???? Top out at 158 I can believe, but surely they're running 300 BHP now and 0-60 in 4.8??? Someone fill me in (and I don't mean that in a: 1.sexual way 2.I want to meet my maker) as I believe (as Jeremy Clark-shoes always does) they have cocked-up on their performance facts!!! P.S I tried, but as usual some ol' biddy will win the car because her name is Doris!!
  4. I've got 18 inch Superleggeras on mine. Of all the wheels on a Scooby, they seem to compliment them the best. I've got muddies on as well. No probs with clearance issues. Take a peek at my car:Advert for my car before I bought it!
  5. I had a mate who owned a Type-R Civic. Great car to drive. Good handling, steering very direct etc.True petrol heads will love them. My mate drove his like a knob and would try and race/catch everything in sight. Reminded me of a Jack Russell with a hard-on chasing every poodle in the area.He couldn't drive the car for a toffee. Correcting the steering input through the bends like a F1 driver. I did advise him that it was not needed and that F1 drivers/Touring car drivers do that because they are fighting against the steering geometry kicking back as the wheels load up through the bends. Laughable really with 205 section tyres and power-steering on the Civic. I test drove one before buying my wagon. Much prefered the Scoobies kick in the pants! Don't need to rev so much to extract the performance, less tiresome and doesn't show you up as trying to hard. Type-R's are great cars, but no match for the Scoobies in ANY aspect. Nuff said!! As for making a P1 struggle????? Better top end on aP1!!!!!! P.s The dash-mounted gearchange is a true piece of automotive perfection.!
  6. I was in the 'Quay yesterday around 5:00 'ish as I had finished a meeting at Bryn Deva Primary School (just off Engle-something Road...had to rely on Sat Nav to get there from my school near Wrexham). Thought I would spot your Scoob'. Kept my eyes peeled. I didn't see one Scooby!!!!
  7. Isn't that the norm in Japan? Cars over a certain age have to undergo a MAJOR MOT-type-test and emissions monitoring that is unrealistically expensive and results in the owners selling the cars on? They have talked about this for years. I remember seeing the white paper on this proposal years ago when I used to be a Civil Servant in the environment sector! It's based on the fact that newer cars are deemed more environmentally friendly and their components have to be easier to recycle. Older engines are being strangled by tighter exhaust emmisions and are seen to be un-economic to be altered or re-engineered to fall within guidelines. Makes you think in which direction Britain and the EU are heading when America decides to flout the Kyoto treaty on emissions (Bush Administration) and off-sets all of our sacrifices! Cars that were manufactured within the last ten years were engineered with these future proposals in mind. The Japanese in particular were very forward thinking when reducing environmental impact for the following decades. I love cars, I have a big interest in the environment and I, like all of you, want my child to grow up in a better world, but it's obvious that this is another form of stealth tax hidden within the 'Green' manifesto. People need help in changing their life-styles, particularly those with low incomes. Having any form of transport in the future will be the preserve of the wealthy. Unfortunately, most of those seem to be company chairmen or heads of industry (and politicians). The controlling powers are not interested in preserving the planet. The only 'Green' they want to see is the 'Green-backs' that will pour in from this paper. Seems were not so different from the guys across the pond!!!! It's the 'Pay-up-or-sell-up' TAX!!!!!!
  8. Here's my previous Scooby: Totally standard except for Magnex system and K&N induction kit(MAF killers!!!) Loved that car. Bought for £10,995 three-four years ago (44,000 and FSSH) and I sold it for £5,495(68,000 and FSSH). Guy uses it for carting mountain bikes up to Moel Famau here in North Wales. So if you spot it, give it a wave!!!
  9. It is! These times are based on the F1 using slicks. The American roadtesters like to try and find out absolute acceleration times for a car and so use the stickiest rubber. The time for the Veyron is a manufacturers figure based on regular road tyres!!!
  10. Look what made it into the top 14! The 22B!!! Click on this link for all the data on performance: http://www.car-videos.net/performance/spee...0&Speed2=60 Have fun.
  11. The last pic is by far the best. Good, mean and aggressive looks. Would be better to flare the arches that blow out the wings rather than have a distinct flared, curved arch. I think they could take some good styling cues from the old Lancia Delta Evo. They look awesome in the flesh (and dropped about 2 inches). Twin headlights with a low brow and a wide stance should give it the look.I know I keep harking on about the mk1 and mk2 Escorts ('68-80), but I truly believe that Ford did a similar blunder with the advent of the mk3 Escort. Totally changed the car's profile and naffed off the rally fans of the original saloons( still it was Europe's best selling car for a LONG time...appealled to a different clientelle who wanted the hatchback practicality....didn't do so well with the rallying though (as compared to its forebearers). Saloon, rear wheel drive to hatch and FWD!! Subaru Impreza: Saloon(and wagon...most of my friends preferred my wagon to the saloon at the time, although they have changed their minds since seeing my latest offering!) 4WD and petrol to hatchback and DIESEL........although my wife has got an '02 GT Turbo Diesel Golf (150 BHP) and that goes like stink and we get 50-odd MPG!!!! I've had wheel spin in second on a dry road and in third gear in the wet....250 ish lb of torque in a front wheel driver!! Is this the future of all super saloons?
  12. Based just outside Wrexham: Coedpoeth (guy in the next road has got a WR1!). The car is going to Hyltons for a head pressure check tomorrow and then (maybe) for the heads to be done next weekend. Cheapest around at £897 inc VAT for both head gaskets replacing. I hope the bottom end isn't knocking....will have to swap engine!!!! Fingers crossed (and toes)! What's the BHP on your car. Was it a standard WRX or STI? Daf
  13. I would assume that your R/C weighs in at 3.06 kg for that BHP/Ton! Is it 1/8th scale? Looks fab. You should film it racing a Scoob or a bike over an 1/8th mile!!!!
  14. What do you reckon do this rendition: Don't be critical. I've got an old copy of MGI Photosuite and my mouse is a bit jittery, otherwise the joins would be seamless!!! Could be an idea for the STi or maybe Subaru have got a new acronym for their flagship model?
  15. What is the most powerful Scooby that you have seen or heard of and what was the spec? I think the most I've heard of from a non-stroked motor is just shy of 900bhp (Roger Clark Developments) in Gunnies car at TOTB 4! With the 2.5 litre I'm sure there is bags more to come. Does anyone run huuuuuge power on the road that is a member of this club. I know JUN in Japan have got some mega horsepower Scoobies, but I'm not sure of the spec. I've got an old vid 'Beasts from the East' and that particular Scoob ran over 200mph! Abbey Motorsport do some mods on the Scoobies don't they? As a mention: I would sell my kidneys for a Litchfield motor!
