BigPapaT Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Hi folks, just registered on here a few days ago, so a big hello to everyone. I've got my car booked in on Wednesday at Iain Greive in Falkirk for its 50K service. I've been quoted 335+vat which I thought wasn't too bad. My question is does this include everything for the service or do the dealers try and add on extras that boost the price? This will be my 1st experience at a Subaru garage for servicing and don't want to get ripped off. I can remember when I put my C70 into Volvo for a service they charged about 15quid to top up the screenwash!

I can remember when I put my C70 into Volvo for a service they charged about 15quid to top up the screenwash! Welcome. There are some pretty good independent garages about depending where you’re based. Just had my 5 year (50k) done at Grieves (purely so there were no arguments with the warranty). Cost me £334 with the SIDC discount for a WRX. I told them to phone me if they wanted to do anything extra. They phoned as they wanted to change the wipers and put front brakes on. I said no and got the brakes done at an independent. The wipers are still going strong! They charged me 2.50 for screen wash although they didn't actually put any in. Couldn't be bothered arguing. I (well the garage who did the brakes) did find the cooling fans disconnected a month later. Presumably from the cambelt service but no real evidence to base an argument with them on. I hadn't been anywhere and no harm done so I just let it lie. Worth a check it isn't running hot afterwards.

I'll look forward to seeing your replies, as I will have to get my first Subaru service at some point too. Not a very helpful post, but never mind... Steve.
martin_allen Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I had mine done there and again cost me around £350 with the SIDC discount. Probably gotr the screenwash charge too but every garage seems to do that one! They did wash the car though as it was filthy and took it on a saturday morning so i had no complaints. Independents were quoting the same price so it was a much better idea to get the official stamp in the book. 5t.
BigPapaT Posted September 10, 2007 Author Posted September 10, 2007 Cheers for the replies guys. I'll be hanging around waiting for the car, so when i drop it off i'll tell them not to do any additional work. I'm pretty competent when it comes to car maintenace so I can do any recommended work myself. The only reason i'm not doing the service myself is so I get the service stamp.
superstar_tradesman Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Does it have be done at a main dealers for the warranty? I thought the law changed so that independants were'nt excluded from doing work on that basis. If so Hypertech in Bonnybridge gets a good name.
scouk Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Welcome to the SIDC BigPapaT ! Another ex Volvo -S40 2.0 turbo- owner here! I'll look forward to seeing your replies, as I will have to get my first Subaru service at some point too. Heh add me to the ex-Volvo club! moved from a 94 Volvo 440 1.8 up to the WRX. Will have first main service for the car after the new year. Gonna change the oil myself in the next couple of weeks hopefully.. Long overdue! Fortunately the massive 50k service was done just before I picked up the car nearly a year ago. Sorry not a very constructive reply.. shame on me...
BigPapaT Posted September 13, 2007 Author Posted September 13, 2007 Well that's the car serviced. Got to say I can't recommend Iain Grieve highly enough and you come back to a freshly washed car. The only additional thing that needed doing was a number plate bulb so on the whole I'm delighted.
Spikkey Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I have just been quoted £390+VAT for a 50K service (Cambelt as well ofcourse) for my 2002 STI from Town and County in Aberdeen. Is this the norm??. What do you think. Spikkey
