Enne_aitch Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Hi there, Im Nick I live in Dunfermline in fife. I have always been interested in subaru's well mostly imprezas. But i have recently came across one which i want BAD lol Its a totally standard 1998 subaru impreza sport 2.0 awd. no turbo. in totally fair condition... I have a few pics... if i put them up could you roughly tell me a value? so i know if im paying too much for it. It has 80 odd thousand miles no mot and no tax and needs bumpers painted. With the mot does any one knoe what to look out for on this age of car and any ideas on where to look. So here is some pics... if any one could give me a rough price it would be greatly appreciated. and hope to see some of you guys in the future at come of the events. Thanx Again Nick.
boris b Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Hi Nick, Welcome to SIDC. Best people to ask about sports would be in www.imprezasport.net I couldn't hazard a guess. Better having a look on Auto trader and other sites with that specific car. Good luck
euan_r Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 hi and welcome. dont know about value but being a uk car and been about for a few years i would give it a good once over for rust, wont be bad but there are a few things that cost a little bit to replace. check the bumper support bars(front and rear) for example, underside of radiator and metal brake lines. given its done 80k i would jack up each corner and lift plastic dirt cover within strut to look for signs of oil where damper piston is. while wheels off the ground it would be rude not to give the wheels a shake to check for any play in wheel bearings. all in above to the usual second hand car checks. smoke on start up, fluids, clicking noises on full lock, brake judder etc.
MilestoneMike Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Hi Nick I'm also fairly new to the forums. Only bought my first subaru in July. Always promised myself I'd own one by the time I was Thirty. I live in Dunfermline but don't recognise the area. If the guys pretty fair and genuinely wants to sell the car then ask if he'll take it for MOT with you at your cost. That way you know what its going to need done and will get an estimate of the cost at the same time. What have you got to lose, you waste the cost of the MOT but save a fortune buying a money pit. Also if its not too bad and the price is right get it sorted and an MOT'd scooby is yours. Also cost of repairs and what the seller wants combined can give a rough guide of its value compare that like Boris said with similar on autotrader and you'll know if it'sa good deal or not. Mike
nkwrx Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Hi mate and welcome, I had a sport for 7yrs also a R plate. First impressions. car looks as if it's had a life! A wee bit rough. Be careful even the Sport can test your wallet. Cheers Kevan
Enne_aitch Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 Hey guys Thanx for the kind replies. I have looked about on autotrader and such like most places are abit more pricy than what i am supposed to be getting the car for. see i have the offer for about 1K give or take a hundred quid. So i think it could be worth getting moted and getting the bumpers done. Milestone Mike What do you drive? the car is situated in glasgow. so you prob wont know the area in the photos. I stay in pitreavie. Again thanx for the help guys. Will keep you posted. Nick
MilestoneMike Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 (edited) I live just over from you in xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Have 51 WRX Turbo SL. Wanted a fast classic but wife wouldn't let me. Edited August 31, 2007 by Andy Location too precise. wouldn't want car to go walkabout because some thieving scum spotted where to find it on a forum...
thewelsho Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 (edited) Have a week look here mate and see what Parkers value the car at. A bit more than you or I thought! Good luck and welcome along. Edited August 30, 2007 by TheWelsho
Enne_aitch Posted August 31, 2007 Author Posted August 31, 2007 Thanz man. i am currently trying to get rid of a mercedes benz 190e auto 1988 To pay for the impreza... so if any oone know of any one wanting one let me know... im wanting about 900 quid for it. as soon as i get rid of it ill be getting the subaru. its so hard when no one wants to buy it. Nick
david_taylor Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Hi mate Personally I would not touch it without the MOT. I own a MY00 UK Turbo and although its in mint condition, I have had to fork out a lot of cash on parts needing replaced due to wear and tear. You dont want to pay a grand, and then put it in for a MOT and get another grand bill to put it on the road. Best of luck anyway. Dave
