H4AFY Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Hi Some might already know about 3 weeks ago the bottom end went on my p1 i thought i would put on what i have done and how its getting on First of all when my mechanics took the engine apart the true state came visible i have only done 3k since i bought it in January the car has been abused by previous owner which has caused me do get the piston rings and cam belt tensioner kit as the old one was nearly expired also another 2 days work for them apart from that below i have listed which parts i replaced and some pictures too Parts replaced 1/ uprated oil pump 2/ exceedy racing clutch 3/ new water pump / cam belt tensioner kit / timing belt / filters 4/ new piston rings / racing head gasket full set / new shell bearings / 1 x new conrod no.1 5/ then the head got sent away for skimming etc along with crank shaft 6/ repainted top section of engine 7/ uprated oil and radiator fluid I was getting costs of over £2500 without the clutch and uprated oil pump here i have got everything done still no where near the original cost lucky for me ,i have enclosed some pictures should be getting her back tomorow night if all goes well.[] If anyone needs any help feel free to ask as i know how much hassle it causes i just didnt expect mines to go at 48k yet i dont even drive it hard.
colzo Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Hope everything went well with the rebuild mate. Any excuse for a mod or two!
H4AFY Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 Yeah good chance to do a lot under the hood was tempted to do more but the misses took the bank card when she seen the balance fastly fading away.
marky.t.s Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 hope it all goes together ok,[Y]will you be getting a re-map,or is it still standard P1.
jimser Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 bad news mate but at least you'll have piece of mind when its all back together again jim
thewelsho Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Good luck with it mate, hope it all goes back in one peice and works better that it did previously.
AlanG Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I thought the P1's had an EJ207 block which is semi-closed deck. That pic looks like an EJ205 which is open deck.
colin_ross Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Yup Al, sti 5 blocks in them. Semi closed deck. Block and pistons look the same as the ones I had.
fai17 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I thought the P1's had an EJ207 block which is semi-closed deck. That pic looks like an EJ205 which is open deck. It does look like a open deck block from here... Hope it goes ok when you get it back.
AlanG Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Which suggests this might not be the first time an engine in that car has gone belly up. Might be worth a look into why, if that is the case.
H4AFY Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 The mechanics did advise it had been opened b4 due to lack of oil to the bottom end as it was not changed in time when they opened it up they found silicone sealer all over it which looks as if it was a bunch of cowboys that done the job on it which has caused it to go this time and due to abuse by previous owner.
