Spaceman Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Hi guys not been about for a while am sure you have all missed me.(yea right) Anyhoo been hitting the over time and have bought another car for trackdays also looking to hillclimb it and do Sprints. What do you guys think think i should mot the car and drive it there or tow it with the scoob as im getting the car trailer with it? Car is a 205 GTi6 engine running around the 185bhp mark is fully straipped with a cage 2 Corbeu revolution seats and harnesses. Sapx adjustables all roound, rebuilt 1.6 gti gearbox and Quaiff LSD, Brand new Comp B4 4 pots with new bells rotors and pads, Cars fully repainted in white inside too as it has been reshelled with a tottaly rust free shell. Good load of spares with it too. Needs head lights wired up(morretts), window washer bottle and pump and proper harness eye bolts and it should mot ok. Was going to track it on the top marques night on the 27th but i have been told i would need an mot. Or get the car scrutineered but the guys that do the scrutineeriing aren`t there till the 29th. any suggestions i get the car on the 21st. so will only have 6days to get the car an mot for knockhill unless anyone knows a scrutineer that can check it over? any one wanna help me get it ready for mot? Cheers Greig. Got pics and will try puttin some up. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x218/Sp...by/100_2546.jpg
corsa Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I can put you in touch with a scrutineer who stays in Kettlebridge, if thats any help?
Spaceman Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 Could well be mate. Do you think he could scrutineer the car for me to go out on track on the 27th? Think he would maybe come to knockers on the 27th to do it? Id be willing to pay the going rate and pay his expense if he came. Maybe you could ask him for me bud if its not to much trouble or if you could pm me a number for him if its ok for me to call him. Thanks Greig
RA Dunk Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 would you actually get away with taking it on track on a top marque day though? i doubt somebody sitting in a 35k BMW would be very pleased about it lol, defeating the purpose of it being called top marque is it?
Spaceman Posted July 8, 2007 Author Posted July 8, 2007 Not really Top Marques are lookin for a higher standard of driving and a clean car as long as your not driving a shed or like an idiot they don`t seem to have a problem. Grieg
Chris_k Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 ud be in the 2 litre class and u wouldnt stand a chance. unless ur only wanting a bit of fun then it looks good.
fiestajohn Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Surely having a bit of fun is what its all about Chris
terzo neil Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 you would be in either A3 or B3 class if you did enter the lowest bhp car is around 300bhp with 4wd, you would be competing against
fiestajohn Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Stop trying to put him off we need all the competitors we can get! The Highland speed championship changed their road saloon classes this year and put the 4wd turbo cars in a separate class. If they got enough entrys the Scottish championships might do the same.
terzo neil Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 the scottish sprint championship used to have a 4wd class but they trimmed the classes down to capacity size as all 4wd cars were in the same class in respect of what size engine they had this is me in B3 class of the scottish sprint, but parked it into the tyres at kames at the may event http://www.highflats.fsnet.co.uk/images/Kames Sun 167.jpg
fiestajohn Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 The Scottish sprint championship has cut classes due to lack of entries, the Highland championship has added classes due to having lots of entries, dont know why but Hillclimbs and Sprints seem to far more popular in the North of Scotland at the moment. I could show a picture of me rolling my car at Doune but I am trying to encourage new people to Hills and Sprints not put them off!
Chris_k Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 sorry if i sounded a bit nasty, ive just broken 2 bones in my right hand and im gonna struggle to get out at fintry
Spaceman Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Nope there will be no putting me off. Ill be joining and tryin to compete in as many races as my shift work allows. Not really bothered if i come last every time least thats consistant lol. Just want to do it for the experience and to have fun and abeable to say i played at bein a race driver once when im old. Fiesta John which car club are you a member of? Might give you a shout bout preparing the car for hill climbs as in where to get the timing plate thing. Cheers Greig

John, perhaps you should check the numbers before making a statement like that. [] Scottish Champ combined entry = 110 Highland = 97 Something does not really hold up there !!! [] ---john---
fiestajohn Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I never was very good at arithmetic, but I know the Road saloon over 1800cc class at Fintray had 20+ entries and the classes at Forrestburn and Doune had less than 10. Overall the Scottish championship has more entries but I think the Highland has more cars in the road car classes. I am talking about the Hillclimbs I dont know how the Sprint entries have been. I am not trying to start an argument with you John, I was just trying to encourage a newcomer to the sport .
fiestajohn Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Might give you a shout bout preparing the car for hill climbs as in where to get the timing plate thing. Most people make there own timing struts, when you get your competition license you will also get a copy of the blue book (regulations) it tells you in it what size and where it needs to go. If you go to any Hillclimb or Sprint you will see how other people have made theirs.
fiestajohn Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Fiesta John which car club are you a member of? I am a member of Grampian automobile club but that is only because if you are a member you get a discount on the entry fee so it works out free to join if you do all their events. (I am a cheap skate I know) Some other clubs do the same e.g. Monklands sporting car club, but not Lothian car club.
Spaceman Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 yea thats what i thought once i have my licence sent away for ill and have the blue book ill get the guys at the work shop to make me a lil aluminium one or something. Going to join the Monklands Car Club only one thing tho on the membership form it asks for Members signitures dunno how ill get roound that going to go to one of the next meets and introduce myself. Is the Monklands track good? looks good and they seem to have a good few nights inc autosolo`s and fun nights also knockhill track nights. Cheers John greig
fiestajohn Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I looked at the Monklands membership form and see what you mean about requiring signatures, Ive not seen that before, it shouldn't be a problem though. The track is good but very twisty, the track nights seem to be getting more popular, a good cheap way to practice and learn the track and the car.
Spaceman Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 Ave printed the form anyway so will post it off tommorrow wi the cheque and see what happens. Can`t wait to get out in the car, even better can`t wait to get the car. What do you race John (Fiesta by chance? lol) do you trailer your car or drive it there? Was thinkin bout gettin a tow bar for the scoob to tow it but may just drive it what you think? Grireg
terzo neil Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 i tow my sierra with my scoob, no problem at all
Spaceman Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 Cool do you have a wrx300 like your avitar? If so is it a detachable one or not and does it stick out don`t want to detrach from my scoobies good looks lol. I have 2005 SWRT Cheers Grieg
fiestajohn Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I tow my Fiesta (Yes I do race a Fiesta, good guess lol) with my Dads Mondeo. I have been thinking about using my Scoob to tow with but I am not sure how good a tow car it would be. I have seen other people use them though.
