  1. nought all wrong with old RAs lol See the state of mine cos I haven't bothered to clean it during the recent engine run in. Last 1300 km (five days) been through sun, sleet, hail, rain, mud, snow, fog and iced up this morning. Who cares, engine is clean and shiny bright
  2. Sounds awesome. What sort of exhaust system is on there? Full decat with headers?
  3. I wave at all scoobs!! Yesterday I went on a 900Km drive around Scotland to put miles on my new engine. Saw about 10 scoobs, 5 waved 5 didn't. Also saw two other SIDC cars at Shell stations. Particular thanks to the blue newage on the A9 around 3:30pm who flashed his morettes and waved at my dog old red classic!! This is unusual since most new age drivers in my area are not enthusiasts (with obvious exceptions). Most of the enthusiasts in my area I see regularily have modified classics.
  4. Right I'm a 1/4 mile newbie. Never been to Crail but now car is finished want to get down this year sometime. My RA is back today from it's rebuild - got to do a heap of miles below 5000 rpm and not use much boost. After that it goes back for a power map at which point it'll be ready for some sprint action! By the looks of the speeds achieved I'll need my speed restrictor (112mph) removed too What sort of power outputs are the cars on the list making?
  5. MRT stuff looks very good. Their australian website is quite detailed and offers loads of parts. For 140 quid I think you could get an original STi strut brace. Try a few speacialist breakers they go for anything up to 120 quid from memory. http://www.japperformanceparts.co.uk/Subaru%20tuning.htm has some listed but for classics so won't suit your car. Keep an eye out.
  6. cool. I got my Sti carbon fibre brace from a breakers in England el cheapo. The flat4online site doesn't say what the lower brace is made of. I was looking at the MRT one on jap-innovations.co.uk website - seems to be a very lightweight model.
  7. Did you get lower braces fitted or only top mounted ones. I have top mounted (Sti carbon fibre front, alloy rear) strut braces but am wondering if it's worth fitting lower braces too?
  8. finish the exhaust system off with upgraded front headers. Spools the turbo in quicker and harder.
  9. Has anyone got a shift light fitted that I might be able to get a pic of? I'm thinking this might be useful when I get my car back from its rebuild since I find that with the short RA gearing you don't spend long in each gear under hard acceleration - and it's a pain to have to keep an eye on the revs rather than looking out the windscreen at the road. I'm not interested in the ones attached to a separate external meter, the standard rev counter is fine for me.
  10. I'm really cheesed off - my car will be back on the road after it's rebuild by then but I'm on call that weekend damn work. Would have been a good chance to meet other modded car owners for a yap. I'm determined to make it to an event soon....
  11. If you move to dyce you'll have to sell the scoob!! MPG is crap sitting in queues. Either that or avoid 0700-1000 and 1600-1800 coming in/out of dyce and bucksburn otherwise it's one big queue. I use the haudigan but work flexi so never hit big queues there. If I MUST b on the road doing a 9-5 then I'll take back roads into town to avoid. Plus back roads are more fun ]" src="/emoticons/emotion-1.gif">
  12. I was speccing my scoob up for a 450 bhp rebuild and a dump valve wasn't mentioned (this car was going to run 1.8 bar boost). Hence I presume the standard subaru STi part must be adequate.
  13. SeargantScooby The indicator routines you specified are what I was taught 15 years ago and are still technically correct (based on advanced driving excursions). However, since you drive in Aberdeen you will realise that nowadays they seem to teach a more "politically correct" approach to help the indecisive and hard of thinking, whereby indicators are optional, and IF applied may be applied in the opposite direction to which the the driver intends to maneuvre, depending on mood. The approach lane at a roundabout seems now to be selected based on spotting the lane with the shortest queue. This new mantra can be observed each morning at the Haudigan roundabout between 0730 and 0900, and each evening between approx 1600 and 1800, where large numbers of drivers can be seen demonstrating the new "pick any lane and indicate randomly" approach. My personal favourite "accident chasers" are those who approach Haudigan on North Anderson Drive in left hand lane (of 3) at bottom, going STRAIGHT ON (for non Aberdeen people it's clearly marked left turn only) !!!! I nearly drove the scoob into the side of one of these idiots when going left from the middle lane and the guy behind me missed my boot by an inch. Still don't know why there wasn't an accident. aarrggghh.
  14. Thanks for all the advice guys. Sounds like it should be ok! (my local specialist knows what he's doing). Inlet manifolds was one of the things being mentioned when we discussed it. I've already had full exhaust (inc headers) and fuel system all sorted previously. Car is going up on Sunday for a few days work - clutch and flywheel, ECU, boost controller, engine, injectors. Should be an acceleration weapon when it's finished. If I strip my third gear with this setup advice offered was to fit an STi v9 gearbox since they are much stronger than old ones due to 2.5 litre engines coming online (apparently can be fitted to my car with a bit of work). So I could end up with an MY95 WRX RA with STI 6 engine and STI 9 gearbox!!! Russell - where are BHP developments based, I've not heard of them before and internet just maps to a street in kingswells? Is that right?
  15. Has anyone had any problems with an STI v6 engine? I'm getting an STI v6 short engine with ported heads stuck into my 95 RA and would like to know of problems anyone has encountered with this engine. Think I should be okay cos it's new and comes with 1 years subaru warranty.
  16. Hi all! Just joined the SIDC although I've owned my 95 WRX RA for about three years now. Haven't used it that much, running up under 10000Km over last three years. So far I've added an induction kit, STI mudflaps (the real ones which go right round under the front arches, not immitations), morettes, V6 grille, STI foglight covers. Not too bothered about how the car looks (hence no STI V5 spoiler, lowering springs, 17" alloys), more concerned with the performance. Exhaust system has upgraded equal length front headers, uppipe downpipe (decat) and is fully ported. Fuelling supplied by an upgraded fuel pump and upgraded fuel rail + stabiliser. Next month I'm hoping to get an Apexi ECU, 550cc injectors, a racing clutch and AVCr boost controller. Also been advised to get a metal head gasket, upgraded lighweight forged pistons, bottom end bearings and upgraded oil pump. If finances allow I'll get a FMIC as well. What's the modified scooby scene like around aberdeen?
