  1. Keep your eye out for one of the Coventry meets (just up the road) on ScoobyNet - there are bound to be a few Brummies attending! mb
  2. Done! I was at the Birthday Bash in 2002, and it was so refreshing to experience drivers who drove to the conditions and not some nanny sign-post planted by a bean counter. Long live the IoMs common sense approach to speed (and parking, and tax etc.). mb
  3. So has anyone given "PC 769, Community Safety/Architectural Liaison, Warwick District" a call to tell them that this is a hoax? mb
  4. Welshwilly, wise words, but you should always be wary of e-mails that end with "Send this to everyone so your friends can take precaution." because usually they are hoaxes! See backseat and slasher for more info. Zippylane, check out Scoobynet - in particular the pointer to Snopes. Maybe someone should give PC 769 a call to let them know! mb
  5. My local dealer (Cutlers of Streetly) is no longer "authorised". The last paragraph in the letter from IM informing me of this said... << May i take the opportunity to remind you of the terms of your Subaru Warranty regarding servicing requirements in the second and third year of the vehicle's life. The use of an Authorised Subaru Dealer for this work is vital in order to maintain a valid warranty. >> Make of that what you will! mb
  6. Keep your eyes peeled for... Super Slider Mobile mb
  7. I think that i have found my own answer to the above. From http://www.isle-of-man.com/generalinformat...ion&legal.shtml... << European relationship - The Isle of Man is not part of the European Union, but has a special relationship set out in Protocol 3 of the Act of Accession, annexed to the Treaty of Accession 1972, by which the United Kingdom became a member of the EEC. Under the above Protocol, the Isle of Man is part of the customs territory of the Union and it follows that the Common Customs Tariff, levies and other agricultural import measures apply to trade between the Isle of Man and non-member countries and that there is free movement of goods in trade between the Isle of Man and the Union as regards industrial and agricultural products. >> Thus it seems like there are no (reasonable) restrictions as to the amount of goods that you can bring in or take out. mb
  8. Does anyone know (or have a pointer to) any customs limits when going to and from the IoM? i.e. does it count as part of the UK (e.g. no limits), the EU (e.g. personal consumption) or other (e.g. 1 litre of spirits etc.)? mb
  9. Don't forget folks, the balance for your invoice is due tomorrow (Thursday) You can pay over the phone by credit card, but beware that it might take a while to get through because they seemed to be very busy on Monday. Don't leave it until the last minute! I can't wait 'til September mb
  10. VinnyP i asked Shell about the posssibility of getting Optimax to the IoM, but it would have been rather pricey (double the cost, plus transport fees ) Also, be aware that you can't carry extra fuel on the ferry! Thus, octane booster seems like the only way for folks like yourselves (i hope that they are legal on the ferry!)? Still, the island isn't very big, so you can cram the fun into a worthwhile time!!! mb
  11. dooahhdoo thanks for the info on mobile phones! Do you know whether the police are equally hot on walkie-talkies (i.e. PMR radios), as they would be very useful during the "drives"? Cheers, mb
  12. What is the legality of radar detectors in the IoM? Although i don't intend speeding in the restricted areas (and the de-restricted is indeed, de-restricted) i will probably have one for the journey to and from the ferry (UK-side). France won't even allow you to carry one in the car (let alone use it), so what about the IoM? mb
  13. As it suggests, this is for all those little questions that you might have. Have a read - there may already be an answer here!! mb
