I'm hoping it should be covered under the warranty - rather than being seen as a 'fair wear and tear' item....
-
thanks for the tip on that one - thankfully, I haven't done anything to it, and I don;t think the guy before me had either (apart from a different exhaust for a while - which he changed back before selling it to me - think he said from WR1) anyway. fingers crossed the local grease monkeys sort the battery out for me. New one please Mr Subaru...

ps. I put on 50 miles in one run with no electrics running in between flats. Should have thought would have made a difference like...

yeh - think you're right about the booster battery. Yet another thing to rattle around in the boot when I'm going around corners ! I'll certainly be aiming for the garage to do something about it anyway. been contemplating buying the extra 2 yr extended warranty, seems like becoming better value every week... p

Hi - hoping someone has some experience of this - I've searched on forum, but everyone seems to be able to plug their battery in. Luxury of having a garage... problem 2003 STI. Left for 10 days. Battery flat. Started OK with jump leads - but a right pain with the alarm going off until got it sorted. Ran it for a few days, than had to leave it again for only 4 days this time, and got back to a flat battery again ! I don't have a garage - so have to leave it on drive and can't plug it in to mains I tried to work the keypad to get the LED to tell me how many volts were in the battery - but it didn;t seem to want to recognise it (according to alarm manual you can turn ignition on, click transmitter, press 8, then turn ignition off - is supposed to tell you voltage) attempted solution so far? I've booked into Subaru next week to look at - alhtough I'm not hopeful as I believe this is a standard problem with the battery being drained by the alarm. I also bought one of those solar trickly chargers that you plug into the lighter socket - however, I now discover they need the lighter socket to be active with the igniotiion turned off - and guess what - Scooby's is not active when ignition off!. Instruction on solar trickle charger say I need to hard wire it to the battery - but I wonder what that would do to the warranty on the car. any helpful members got thoughts on 1. solar charger knackering warranty? 2. if not - how is best way to put wire through to the battery from the inside? 3. is there a solution that subaru has come up with? 4. what gives with the battery voltage check not working?

I have little sympathy for him. Doing over 100mph in the wet is stupid.

can't help you much on choice of tyres, but similar to you, I've managed to get hold of a spare set of anthracite wheels (with Bridestone Potenza RE070's on them - which look pretty good - although the tread pattern makes them look almost illegal from the side). I needed 4 new tyres anyway, and these were such a bargain, I effectively got the wheels for free!. Just changed the wheels over yesterday, and still undecided if I prefer gold or anthracite. (on a blue 03 STI) - but couldn't be arsed changing the tyres to the old wheels. will be looking to put full winter tyres on one set and the RE070's for summer only - have you picked up any views on which winter tyres? p

sounds like a result. other thing to watch is that if you DO accept their offer of 'lifetime' warranty (which would be expensive for them, and not a bad outcome for you) then it only be for you - ie if you sell it on, there will be no warranty. Also need to check what is actually covered in the warranty - ie a worn out clutch after 7 years will not be covered, may also have max value of claims under warranty too - need to check its terms before agreeing. YOu may even fnd that no 1000 mile service invalidates that too also - if this does go belly up, and Subaru end up going after these guys, then you should weigh up the danger that the company is ruined by it. I've no idea how big the company is, but it wouldn;t surprise me if they did not have a huge balance of cash and it sounds like they are well shoddy. I'd be tempted to try for 1. the warranty - (& try get it transferrable) - and see terms before agreeing to it - AND 2. cash compensation - this will draw a line under it for you, and decrease exposure to them as a company OR 3. them to buy the car back off you, with compensation. I know it is hassle, but if get what you paid for it (or more?) then can go to a proper dealer to help persuade Clark, you could spell out the possibility of - trading standards - fraud - then trying to conceal fraud - even if guy you are dealing with now says the chap who made the offer earlier was wrong/not able to make the offer - no matter, company is responsible for actions of its employees during the course of their employment (apart from some outlandish exceptions) weak spots in your case could be if they open up technical arguement aboutthings like define UK spec - (the UK alarm is fitted after manufacturing) Doesn;t matter if you are right, and tehy are wrong, they could tie you up for a long time. Then if you win, and they go into liquidation etc, then you still lose, cause there is no money. p

Help regarding accident and can this be fixed ?
Croc replied to VAL113R's topic in Scottish Scoobies
glad you're OK try to get a statement from the other guy who saw the little sh!t going too quickly. solicitor can arrange for this to be taken - but want it asap to avoid confusion and maintain credibility were there any traffic surveylance cameras? - if so try to get them noted before they get wiped - don;t know how long they are kept do you have a note of cars which were badly parked (and breaking the law - cause double yellows are not just 9-5) if all else fails, you know where he lives..... p -
if all things go according to plan on Saturday - I will be the proud new owner of an 03 STI Type UK, and be able to consign my old (but faithful) Audi to a friend for buttons (the cost of the Audi doesn't even cover my Subaru insurance!) As a newbie, I've not been to one of the meets - just turn up and say hello? dinner? - fingers crossed for the good weather, cause we're having to meet in Inverness to do the deal. paul ps should I be extra cautious of constabulary lying around waiting to zap us?

hi mate We actuallly spoke on the phone the other night when I saw your ad in AutoTrader - I'm in Aberdeen, and was a bit reluctant to travel all the way down there. In terms of price, an on-line guide coughs up a milage adjusted prices for the car as follows (wisebuyers) Retail 13,705 Private good 12,685 Private Average 11,435 Private Poor 10,185 Trade 11,686 I'm happy to pay what something is worth, but what would bring yours up from 12.6 tht would seem to be the suggested price for a car like your in tip top condition? I know they may not be deadly accurate with all prices - but one went on Friday night for 11k down your neck of the woods with 44k on the clock. The only thing I could see wrong with it, from chatting to the guy, was that he'd missed the first 1000 mile service (it was sold before I could get to see it though) p

MAYBE 4 SALE STI PRODRIVE 2002 ( LOADS OF MODS )
Croc replied to The Guru's topic in South East England
still for sale? if yes - where are you in the country? have you got an idea of price yet? - I've seen a high milage 02's go for as little as 11k, and another for 14, but normal milage going for 15k, or 17 from garages. These were all UK and unmodified. Not sure what to make of your own one (although it does look good) I'm not into tracking or modifications, so if there are some on it, fine, but not on my wish list, or my 'to do' list. cheers p -
personally, I don't understand the desire to get rid of the orange the clear ones just bug me. Can;t see the damn things properly. am I just wierd?
-
not for me, but good luck on the sale. it looks good anyway p
-
to be honest, I'm probably more a candidate for a bog standard STI ....but out of interest did you change the engine by choice? It would seem to be a bit young to be broken already. p

Does anyone want to sell a 2002 (ish) STI? Dealers all want stupid money and I'm too tight to give them my cash anyway Not worried about Prodrive bits or any other mods, but would like it to be in decent condition. Doesn't need to be showroom condition (although that would be nice) Anyone thinking about selling? Paul ps - I'm in Aberdeen, but can travel a bit. Would like to discuss and maybe see pics etc before need to travel to Englandshire or anything like that
