  1. easy way to check individual coils with engine warm on idle puor water from a old washing up liquid bottle over each coilpack till you get a miss fire The long way is to take coils off then remove rubber shroud and check for hairline cracks including down the mould joins you can probably get a week or so extra out of them by placing electrical tape around end before refitting if youv gone this far take plug out and test it, look at colour of plug as well check you havent got too much oil in car as too much oil would make car lose power, on boost it will shoot up to boost solenoide and cut power so car doesnt go into self ditruct mode
  2. As above small ticking noise could be a heat shield on your exaust (downpipe is favorite) just a blob of weld would fix that do you check oil regularly?
  3. anybody? surely someone has used morrets before?
  4. as above i have a pair on my STI just failed MOT due to drivers side being too high their is no adjuster on the back just a hole and three screw holes where one should be on the drivers side so my question is is it a normal subaru adjuster or is it a part i need to obtain from morette?
  5. as title theirs a save dooningtom rally this sunday is anybody on here going? if its raining il be rocking up in the scoob if not il be on the R6 as i need to get used to it lol plus i anticipate alot of traffic so should be quicker lol http://www.savedonington.co.uk/
  6. i punched up 230,000 on my last classic on original turbo and engine no probs depends on how you treat them and service them i suppose i did most jobs myself because it was cheaper and i knew the job would get done
  7. i got it of 22B Andy who used to run special scoobies in colchester before he emigrated down under lol just checked my spelling lol but yeah you get the procedure try to encourage a earth if their is one it will apear as a missfire i used to take the individual coilpacks out you have to realy look somtimes its obviouse and other times its a hairline crack down the seam of the plastic (under the rubber shroud) if you want a short term fix you can always play around with black electrical tape but your just puttin off the inevitable it will however last untill you can procure new coilpack (dont use second hand i had many problems) its much cheaper to just buy new on a individual basis rather than all 4 just for the hell of it
  8. on your 99 classic you dont have individual coilpacks on the back of each plug so just changing leads and coildpack should be ok but as for above problem id take each coilpack off take the rubber shroud off the end and look for any hairline cracks if you dont want to do this try getting a bottle of water and with engine warm and ticking over drip water down individual leads one at a time, if on one lead whilst your pouring water car seems to miss then bobs your uncle youve found a problem coilpack/lead hope this helps
  9. if you cant see them they may well still be taped up near the steering column
  10. unfortunatly i believe morrette has gone bust a while ago (if im wrong please correct me) i have a set on my 03 - 05 and had a few peeps offer to buy them off me as they are gold dust
  11. i had this prob recently when i baught my 53 plate STI i got a key from ebay (£10) then i got a nissan blank and had it cut (£10) then i took it to a realy good autto electrician (pete wilson mansfield woodhouse nottinghamshire) he programed the key into the car (£35) a tip if electrician cant do it as the two previouse couldnt achive it was he took all the old keys out of the memory of the car then input the two i had this also ment that any previouse owner with a old key couldnt get in or drive of with my new toy hope this helps

  13. hi guys need to change my wiper blades and i got the whole jo lot off the stalk but they seem to be encased in rubber they have the name MITSUBO on the clip and the blade are these aftermarket whole job lot or is their a way of just changing the blade inside the rubber holder car is a 53plate UK STI
  14. always be suspect of new parts try and get ahold of a cheap fluke/voltmeter you can get a cheap one from maplins with digi readout for a tenner test the terminals with engine running you should be getting 13 or 14 volts any less than that and you have a faulty new alternator how much slack is in the belt you should get 1/4 to half a twist max on the longest stretch of the belt did you put a new belt on?
  15. Cant say as i know them but your rightsare that you can tell insurance company where you want the car repaired i had big probs with a coatchworks that my old classic was sent to but my local subaru garage fixed it all in the end including the coatchworks mistakes at the insurance expense id insist on subaru agent doing any insurance work on my scoob
  16. hi ya shippers i havent been around alot either lol happy new year to all
  17. when i got my first scoob in 2001 i went down a ungritted "B" road near me driving spiritedly like i usualy did however in the darkness i seen the main beam of a oncoming car as it transited up the other side of a hill in the distance i aplied the breakes as i decended a hill knowing the oncoming was going to have to decend a hill i would be accending shortly as i aplied the breakes i got my first ever hit of ABS lol i crapped myself i emidetly thaught somthing was wrong then it hit me what had happend iv always been a great fan of gearbreaking i had the original MY 93 to 96 UK turbo sevearly under powerd on breaking with two potts as standard on the front i never uprated them i just learned how to gear break alot better lol find yourself a deserted car park and learn how your car handles on snow and or ice it taught me alot iv also done a skid pan course at west point exeter and a rally course to try to learn how the car handles off road lol i also got to treat a scoob like a hirecar PMSL not having to think about repairs as it wasnt my car was a winner lol
  18. Personally i think the show is brilliant compared to other motoring shows (apart from wheeler dealer lol but that a different catagory in my book) but it has seemed to have left anybody with a budget of under 30K to spend on a motor behind however as a entertainment show its contending with Xfactor and stricly this and strickly that and big bother all of which i detest. The show is loseing its its foundation audience (rather like the housing market pricing the first time buyers out of the market) personally i love the challenges and you cant have a good challenge without knowing what a crap one is Just wish they would do some reviews on moor afordable cars under 30K for the people who dont earn as much as them (and yesy i am biased for Subaru but i still like Clarksons view being a Evo enthusiast as he knows which car he would rather drive home at the end of the day)
  19. lol hitler found out that rage against the machine made no.1 for christmas lol beware some strong language on the subtitles lol
  20. iv lost a few rads to gritters two of which were on my old classic which was expensive enough i try a bit of using other cars as cover to get close then oer take slowly on a motorway of the motorway i stay well back and dont overtake or turn of and find another route its cheaper in the long run at the end of the day its a valued job i just dont like being behind a gritter when its operative lol
  21. cheers debsp555 well i wish i had gone to the NEC but it was that or go and pick the R6 up lol nuff said lol its a beautiful bike drives like a dream just got to show it some respect for a while lol think with the weather closing in it wont be coming out again till summer if im around and available would defo meet up with some bods of here on the bike lol any excuse to get out on the bike lol
  22. Phew what a bike had a great w/end on it just wish the weather was better only thing i dint like first off was the position of the peggs for my feet lol but im sure il get used to it just need to keep a eye on what im doing got a feeling the weather is not going to be kind to bikers for a while lol Cheers for advice guys BTT for any advice on a decent disclock that wont break the bank
  23. Cheers m8y got my shiney new license lol going to test drive the R6 tomoz lol then need to find a effective but fairly well priced disc lock been looking on you tube at chains being bolt croppped all the bid names seem to take less than 40sec's iv been told to get a chain and put it up and over the seat when i get one as this makes it harder to bolt cromp any chain and disc lock advice would be apreciated guys
  24. Cheers for the advice i went to look at the thundercat i mentioned earlyer with a friend who knows alot moor about bikes thgan me he wasnt happy with it reconed it had been in a smack so i left it iv realy had to think hard about the R6 as i was aprehensive at first but iv had some advice from my instructor and friends who ride big bikes including the Yam dealer where im purchasing the bike from with the weather as it is and the fact il mentaly be thinking that i dont want to "spin the world faster or rip any trees up with the back wheel" im going for the R6 as a long term bike with it only coming out and hopefully straight on to a track etc i understand what you have written and i took a long time deliberating with different people befor i made the decission however as i have said and been told its only as quick as you pull the twist grip lol just got to drive it like miss daisy for a while lol oh and thanks for the tip on tyres lol my shiney new licence came through yesterday lol 2 years of carfull driving ahead max of 6 points in the first two years lol
  25. Cheers for the congrats guys lol iv gone bonkers and looking at a 2000 (W) R6 its working out cheaper than a fazer bandit or hornet my ideal just passed my test kind of bike's i got a quote yesterday for the R6 of £168.00 TPFT with no alarms and kept in a lean too etc first bike no noclaims on a bike but they took so many of my car no claims into account i would say its cost me 600 quid in total to pass my test i had a great instructor i paid over 3 months and took one test a month (not including written) i had to practice the Hazard perception test but other than that everything went brilliant CBT is a course not a test so its just how quickly you pick it up test1 was a mare as the test area was waterlogged for the test but i still did it ok and test 2 was a dream i thaught i failed straight off carried on and found out i had passed lol il be riding for fun not comuting i work 300 miles away lol il keep my hand in over winter but nothing drastic then when weather gets better im gona get used to the bike alot moor lol miles of fun ahead Ace its a great feeling just to pass mate as it was when i passed my car test i hope you enjoy it and get it cracked its alot cheaper to fill the tank on a bike and you can get the same amount of fun lol and itl help keep the miles down on the scoob (thgats my excuse anyway lol)
