About Charliep

  1. I use Texaco super fuel on a daily basis, and can honestly say it is by far the best fuel for my car. It pulls harder and lasts way longer than any other fuel on the market. It aint cheap though. but running 1 bar now I have had no problems what so ever.
  2. heres one for ya then, on a classic 2000 x plate would I need a flash adaptor to upload an ecu image to my ecu?
  3. I have to admit, my car runs just as good on Tesco '99 as it does on V power but I still fill up once a month with V power just for the addatives the put in there fuel it cleans, restores and protects your engine apparently, were as Teso '99 has just added methanol to increase the octane. 4. Hi mate, it was me!!!. yours was the black kitted out L plate then I take it. Work don't like me taking time out to chat to fellow scooby drivers eaither lol. Must say your exhaust sounded mint as you stormed down that slip road. Charlie
  5. Hi welcome to the club. MPG depends alot on how you drive the car really, I have a boost controller so I can turn the turbo almost off when i want or increase the boost for times when I want a little fun. great fuel saver mod, allready paid for itself. I recon I get on average tootling around 25-30MPG depending. Charlie
  6. where are you going to put the SECS Monitor then........great bit of kit by the way. welcome to the board by the way.
  7. Well my last review on my new brakes seemed to be of some use to some people, so i will write a review on my new boost controller in the hope that it will benefit more poeple on here. OK, so as above I bought a GReddy PRofec A boost contoller. and here are my findings. This is one of the most difficult bits of kit (electronically) I have ever setup/fitted to a car. I suppose this is primerily because the thing is so damn clever, it uses fuzzy logic processing to control your boost, which in simple speak means that it has a brain that calculates and learns your specific boost curve for each gear with the mods you already have fitted. on paper this is a real asset as its one of the few boost controllers that monitors your fuel pressure inline with your boost as well guarenteeing the best control over your turbo and better fuel economy .....but in reality...... When you first power the thing on it goes into P1 mode or program mode 1, in which you do a 3rd or 4th gear power run this went smooth as you like, and instantly calculated the maximum boost pressure. now for P2. this is where it learn your boost curve.... after several 3rd gear power runs it still couldn't calculate the boost curve. I was not so worried about this as there is a little dial on the front you can bring the boost controller int line with what you are reading on your boost gauge through the rev range. WHICH I HAD TO DO. worth noting though even though I manually set up the boost curve it will continue to learn as well, and now a month on, and I really didn't think I would be saying this, ITS FANTASTIC. It holds boost perfectly releasing the turbo at exactly the right revs, the boost control dial does exactly what it says on the tin, overall very very impressive compared to other similar devices that have been fitted to cars I have driven. Im sure as the learning process continiues it will only get better, I have definantly seen a fuel performance increase and when you put your foot down you dont get that instant whack of power its smooth full power from start to finish with very very little lag. and big big smiles. hope this helps some of you out there will get some pics up later. 8. Have you bought the car yet, because daft as it sounds to insurance companes people who have newer cars ...tend to look after them better...or so they recon. Guess what im trying to say is if you can afford a newer year it may make a difference in the cost of your insurance, I know it was cheapeer for me to insure a 2000plate GT (turbo 2000) than a similar model but older. I wanted a scooby for years and years mate, but just in reality and looking back now agree with my wife had to wait till I hit 25. I now pay after 2 years of very very happy scooby ownership £497 fully comp with my wife named on the policy (she is 25) with Norwich Union. thats with a tracker fitted, well worth getting one on a scoob these days mate. £120 a year for peace of mind. hope this helps charlie
  9. I have a mate who is a track day freak, and he allways says unless you have porsche brakes dont buy drilled disks as it actually creates weak points in the disk because they are drilled. so plummed for 40 slot. the porsche discs on the other hand are moulded with the holes in so you get no weak points. link to the company i bought them from http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-IMPREZA-WRX-G...1QQcmdZViewItem great customer service too, they sent 277mm instead of 295mm, the next day i had the 295's on my door step and they took the 277's away. what more could you ask for.
  10. Hi. I am writing this review for several reasons really. I never normally write them but on this occasion feel compelled to do so. You see, I recently needed to replace both the front and rear discs and whilst at it replace all the pads as well, after looking into several options including subaru standard discs and pads ( I have subaru 4 pots with 295mm on front and 2 pots 266mm (vented) on rear ) I decided to give ebay a go and ordered these. they cost £129.99 plus £15 delivery, whilst at it ordered some mintex racing pads for the front and rear for..well...not alot either really. It has now been a month or so on and they are just superb. I cant believe it, no fade no warping no noises, an easy upgrade all round. from the minute you get in the car to the minute you get out you can expect sharp responsive braking, I'm not talking on and off button braking but certainly a great improvement on standard stuff, and for so little money I think all in around £200ish mark. I know that alot on here would more than likely need 8 pots and huge 19" wheel scraping disks and calipers to be satisfied, but for my x plate impreza GT, with only a full HKS decat exhaust, Greddy profec A boost controller, Bailey DV12 BOV and upgraded air filter its more than enough to stop the thing. I'm sure i will get many more miles of happy times out of them. Charlie
  11. I seem to remember someone once organised a scooby trip to Germany for a long weekend and a day at the 'ring just wondered if anybody knows of another trip like this coming up?
  12. couldnt agree more with the "dont use bp ultimate" statement. texaco super unleaded is also good stuff and about the same price as tesco 99
  13. it would be cheaper to buy the tomtom mobile software off the internet which doesnt have a usage fee. thats what i have and its mint, you can even download all the different celeb voices lol.
  14. this sounds fantastic actually, now we will see a greater number of manufacturers and cars, and you will also start to see smaller privateers coming into top flight rallying. great viewing i bet.
  15.
