  5. Hi Adam, Sensor was fecked, just waiting on the running order on other thread to be updated & I will re-run all the cars (FOC) that used the faulty sensor (we swapped to a different probe for a different exhaust style 1/2 way through) Cheers, Gerry
  6. Hi Gumball, You sound like the perfect candidate, my concern is that with the vast experience you have, we would struggle to meet your remuneration expectations [] Cheers, Gerry
  7. BTT for all the skivers at work (if you are reading this in work time, please don't apply [])
  8. Hi Guys, Hope the mods don't mind, if they do, I'll quickly remove it. Anyway, I'm looking to add a few more members of staff to the business due to ongoing growth. I'm looking for 2 additional techs with good experience, & preferably with a good understanding of Engine Management systems & excellent diagnostic skills, more importantly a can-do attitude. Excellent package with training for the right candidates. And secondly I'm looking for another sales person, again a good undertanding of cars & performance upgrades, as well as a proven track record in sales both retail & B2B. The successful applicant will be expected to travel throughout the UK for approximately 4-5 days in a calander month. Excellent package for the best candidate. If anyones interested or know's anyone that might be, please email me; GerryATdastek.co.uk Cheers, Gerry http://www.dastek.co.uk
  9. Hi Guys, Just a quick one to say, that I haven't forgotten about this. Could someone PM or email me the running order with registrations & user names, so I can work out at what point we changed the sensor & who is due a re-run. Cheers, Gerry
  10. Hi Euan, You are now saying that your post was not a piss take, but comments such as : question the operators all the time its the only way you can work out if they know what they are doing or NOT in this case... as well as the many other posts on various forums, calling us mongs, monkeys, numpties etc.. would make me think you have something against us [8-)] To answer your question, our rollers actually calculate the losses on the coastdown (see my previous post detailing the formula) where as the Dyno Dynamics applies a factor for a particular transmission type (but you can see the differnce just g/box oil temp makes, so how accurate this method is, is anyones guess) or they multiply the wheel power by a % (24% or 1.24 multiplier in the case of EVO's) the reason there is such a big difference in wheel power to engine power on their machine is due to the fact that they run small diameter rollers which leads to high loading & deformation on the tyres, the smaller rollers also mean that the retarder rotates at a higher rpm for the same road speed, & as the power required to just spin over the retarder increases with rpm, this is yet another power unmeasured, & finally because the roller diameter is smaller, the amount of force required to pull down the car on the rollers to gain sufficient tranction is greater, the tyre deformation & heat exchange is greater leading to greater difference between the wheels & the engine. With regards the 40bhp losses, if I'd run it in 6th, it probably would have lost over 100bhp, but the engine output wouldn't have changed, but at least with our dyno it would have shown this. I realise AVA don't give flywheel figure (& this is not a dig at AVA, as I know them & think they are good guys, but a general question of anyone that relies on wheel power only) but how would you explain to two customers that have had the same spec engine built by the same engine builder, that in one car it produces more power at the wheels than the other, due to any of the following or combination of A) Diff ratios different Gearbox ratio's different (say 5sp V's 6sp box) C) Wheel alignment wrong D) G/box oil viscosity or temperature variation E) Tyre sideall profile (35 V 55) F) More pull down strapping force required for the short geared car G) Mechanical fault such as brake caliper sticking on or wheel bearing fitted by a numpty (see previous MR2 screen grab) etc. etc... So I will say it again (even though you only partially quoted me on Passion Ford []) 'Wheel power is meaningless without coastdown data (I've even highlighted the last bit that you failed to quote on PF []) As for prices, if you want a straight forward run with nothing more than graphs of flywheel power & torque, AFR & boost, we normally charge £40 + VAT, if you want turbo speed, injector duty cycle, intercooler in/out, engine pumping losses, fuel pressure, fue flow etc plotted, then we charge £60 + VAT per hour for how long it takes us to do it (as you can imagine it can get time consuming to fit all these sensors & gather the data) but for you [] Seriously if you want to come along & see our equipment in action & discuss some physics, I'd do it FOC, if I can convert you I can convert anyone [] Cheers, Gerry
  11. Hi Guys, I intend to give those that had the duff sensor fitted a re-run FOC (still needing the running order & number plates V's user names, so I can work out at what point we fitted the new sensor) Cheers, Gerry
  12. OK Server playing ball again, so here is a long winded infomercial [] I have copied the raw runs for Graemes car above, you will notice that the first image shows a peak loss at peak revs of about 47bhp But if you look at the loss at peak wheel power (below) you will see that it is only 32bhp (all will be explained when you read the rest of the bumf) Here's a few others from the day Feck knows what's happening to the resizing of this one below, but it is 33 bhp I've also included some screengrabs of other examples of differences in wheel power V's flywheel power, the first 3 being from our own Civic The next 2 the details are in the image Now comes my war & peace on dyno's (part one this week & the rest when I get a minute [8-|]) Try this for above Another thing, look at your 'Speed per 1000 rpm' number, the higher this is, generally the higher the losses (this is the speed in kmh per 1000rpm in the gear used to do the test - which for most was 3rd) Enjoy [] Cheers, Gerry
  13. My bad! Sensor is fecked - if someone can give me the order of runners, then I can sort out a retest - sorry! As for transmission losses, please see other thread on graphs, but your answer your questions, yes losses were correct. Cheers, Gerry
  14. Ahhh! Rapid Cossie the infinate wisdom. Please feel free to discuss the physics of transmission losses, seeing as you know so much about it. As you are an AVA guy, please remind me, what is it they quote for losses? (30 - 40 Bhp in 4th if I remeber correctly) As for the losses on the graphs that were posted up here, they were not the maximum losses, but the difference between maximum wheel power & maximum flywheel power & in the majority of cases in 3rd gear. Rather than shouting your mouth off every time my companies name is mentioned, why not step out from behind your keyboard & visit the place, & feel free to try & catch me out with what crap you have learned from the internet, maybe if you are receptive to learning, you will pick up something of real value! [^o)] I will post some stuff up I get my server access sorted. Cheers, Gerry
  15. Hi Guys, Hopefully tou all had a good day, but I am interested to here feedback good or bad (c'mon Higgy it's not like a Suid Afrikaan, to keep his mouth zipped [] ) I'd especially like to here what you thought of the new software/printouts & any improvements/suggestions you might have about it. Anyway I enjoyed the day & banter & look forward to the next one (which might be sooner than I anticipated if the sensor turns out to be faulty - see other thread) Also meant to say, if there are any questions can we keep them in one topic (or open a new one) so that I ca keep track (we're not all used to surfing the forums all day, some of us have to work for a living [] ) Cheers, Gery
  16. Hi Guys, Gerry from Dastek here - be gentle now ;-) Does seem that there are more than a few graphs that are going lean as the revs go up, I can't say I really noticed the trend at the time, but it might be that I do have a dodgy sensor (despite it being less than a week old!) as young Ali had problems with it not responding, soon after he took over from me, the new sensor did seem to cure the problem. So, could someone give me the running order with regs (PM or email) & I'll take a look at the graphs again, as well as hooking up a car with the old & new sensors side by side. Sorry for the hassle. Cheers, Gerry
  17. Hi Guys, Anybody know a very good freelance Delphi 6 programmer that would be interested in a contract to work on our dyno software? If so if you could email me Gerry@dastek.co.uk Cheers, Gerry
  18. Hi Guys, Just a quick post to say thanks for coming along & especially so to Jason for organising it (thanks for the crack at the end with your fellow Dundonians) I am however a little disappointed to see that some were not so happy. Higgy could you let me know what the exact problem is with your vehicle, as I can not see the relationship between your car sitting on the dyno with a lambda probe up it?s backbox & the failure of your EGT sensor? Simon, I did apologise to you on the day about not being able to run your car, due to some stray electrical noise affecting our dyno?s speed control loop. We pride ourselves in having probably the most sensitive & repeatable dyno in the country with unsurpassed cooling & grip, as this was hopefully evident with the run on the Skyline, so your comments on not being impressed with our setup seem a little harsh. I hope you can see our point on the low priority of sorting out the problem that occurred whilst testing your car, as we have only had 4 instances (all on older style cars) of this problem in over 2000 cars tested, & it doesn?t make commercial sense for us to spend much time on a problem that is vary rare & also that only manifest?s itself on dyno days, which is the only time we see this era of car. I hope that doesn?t come over too arrogant, as it?s not meant so, but I?m just purely trying to explain our point of view. Anyway hope to see you all again soon. Cheers, Gerry PS ? Andy I also meant to see if you paid for your run, as I wouldn?t have charged given the slipping clutch & no print outs, so if you did, apologies from me & I?ll either send you the cash, or stick you on for a credit for your next visit, please let me know.
  19. Hi Guys, Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. I would be grateful if everyone attending could watch their driving in and around the area, as we've had a few problems in the past (not with Scoobies I hasten to add ) Thanks in advance, Gerry
  20. Hi Guys, Just here to clear a few things up, sorry I didn't join yesterday, but I thought you had to be an SIDC member. The situation is basically how I described it to Jamie, but I'm here to answer a few questions that have been raised by Robin. I'm not sure about the 'go away/come back later' comment, the only time we will turn a customer away is if there is a problem i.e. the fuel pressure drops under load, showing there is a fuel delivery problem, so may need a larger pump, or new filter etc. so whilst we could map it, it a bit of a waste of time for the customer & ourselves, we could of course carry out the repairs, but many people want to do this themselves, either for satisfaction or cost saving. I'm curious what would have happened if Steve Simpson came up only to discover you had injectors that were too small, or a huge turbo, a FMIC, & a standard fuel pump, would he have still mapped it, if he diagnosed the fuel delivery as being too low for the power expected, would he say oh don't worry I'll just drive back down the road & come back another day when you've got it sorted? The reason we now want to dyno the cars in the first place is because of the above scenario, it's fine to say why don't you book it in for a Unichip, do these tests then if it's fine map it, this is indeed what we used to do, however we were finding faulty MAF sensors, fuel pumps & injectors that were not suited etc, & then parts would need to be ordered or perhaps customers did not have the cash for the repairs & the Unichip, plus we were left with unutilised dyno time. So this is the reason we do the pre-inspection first & yes we charge for it, but if no faults show up, then we refund this cost upon fitment of the Unichip. I'm guessing your asking if people will get a new version unichip in place of the old version that they originally purchased, the answer in no. Would you expect a new Scooby in place of your old one everytime they bring out a new model? We will still map them though if people make modifications. I feel I am actually offering good service in that I could offer the old version Unichip right up until the new version is available, but I'm prepared to say to people you would be better waiting for our new version, & potentially losing a sale at that moment. I'm not sure where you have got the info about us not remapping cars that are already fitted with Unichips, this is not the case, it may be that we take longer to book people in than they think is acceptable, but there is only so much work I can do, I typically work 12 - 14 hours a day during the week & 8 - 10 hours on a Saturday, we are at the moment booked about 6 weeks in advance, but come the summer around 12 weeks is required for a slot, I know ideally I should put another dyno in place, but then the problem comes in finding someone that I can employ who can do the mapping, not easy! If a customer couldn't wait that long, then they could choose from over 50 Unichip dealers throughout the country (or 10 if 4WD) we do not lock the software to prevent other from modifying our maps. If a customer with a Unichip or for that matter a GEMS, MoTeC, MBE ecu etc that we have fitted or have been responsible for the mapping of, is having a problem then we will get it in & rectify the fault usually within a couple of days, so I don't see that as being a problem. I'm not sure what I've done or my company has done to upset you Robin, but I take all critisisms on board & use it to try & make my company better, so for that I thank you. Cheers, Gerry
