Cheers all It doesnt move around badly from side to side(only on idle), but the compression thing worries me? Its been compression tested and everything was within subaru tolerances. What are the tell tale signs of low compression (i have lost no power, engine seems smooth? when driving) and no misfire / backfire or oily plugs? I have been told so many things by 'specialists' i just drive the thing now. Dont know who to believe?

Noticed my engine 'rocking' (side to side) slightly on tick over? Then smoothly when revved. Been told it still could be compression?. I have lost no power and engine runs smoothly on boost and in traffic. Could it be that it is idling at too lower rpm? Does your engine 'rock' slightly on tick over or is it stationary? Is this normal would you say? What are the symptoms of low compression in one cylinder?

scoob everyday for work/commuting? Someone wound me up yesterday, saying the car was not practical and must be heavy on fuel? Just wondered about other owners? My bill for fuel is between £35-£40 a week (50 miles a day ---work and back). about 300m a week. Surely thats not too bad? Maybe its jealousy Dont use it much/hardly at weekends though

Had a similar incident a few years back. I suggest you phone her over the weekend (or today)and let her know the plan (say you dont want to involve insurance companies), this will also confirm the tel no is correct, also speak to her dad if poss (almost def if its his policy, as she may keep it under wraps from him?). Get the quote tues and then take it around to the house 'in person' to settle. Also take a photocopy of the quote. They may possibly pay there and then which then doesent involve the insurance companies. Make sure you get everything signed as well by both parties (draw up an agreement yourself) BUT, they may say they want to go through insurance---Then contact the companies ( i would inform yours today and tell them your plan)etc This is basically what i did when i was shunted in the rear
