These threads always give me a few nights sleeplessness. Ill be up at the window constantly on the lookout for a shady vectra occupied by low life scum

Thats the very one mate. Should look sweeter in the coming months, when the 18's go back on, accompanied by my new carbon tailgate and carbon STI V6 spoiler. Give me a wave next time you pass. Barry
-
Im in Livi also. Silver Classic with obscene amounts of Carbon Fibre.
-
I generally wait to be waved to these days. I was sick of getting nothing but blank expressions or angry stares in return. Always wave back though. Sports, Classics, Wagons, New Age, Ill wave to all. I even waved at a pensioner in a Justy once. Just to check. Should be a notice in the first page of the owners manual about mandatory waves to other Subaru drivers.

Not sure mate. If you remove the speedo drive from the gear box and attach it to the drill, then spin the drill. If the speedo works then the cable/sensor/speedo all work fine and the problem is with the speedo drive gear in the box. You can also check this by having all 4 wheels up off the ground and put the car in gear, have a mate put something in the whole you removed the speedo drive from. Drive the car. If the gear spins whatever you have put in the whole the gear box end is fine. As I said before perhaps someone with more knowledge than myself could help you shed some light on the situation. Any joy with checking the fault codes? Cheers Barry -

The pin in my speedo drive had snapped and had been repaired, and caused the speedo to work intermittently. and bring on the C.E.L light. The pin eventually broke so didnt spin, so didnt send the signal to the speedo. Only a suggestion. Perhaps some one who is more knowledgeable can shed some more light on it for you. Barry -

I had the same problem with mine when I got it, after I had the clutch changed. Mine was the Speedo sender unit from the Gear Box. Sounds like a phone call to your Local Subaru dealer is needed mate. Think they are about £197 off the top of my head. If its any consolation mate its real easy to change once you have the part. Cheers Barry -
Could have been alot worse. Bit of a pain though when a new part is faulty, really leaves you scratching your head. Especially when I specifically tested it before fitting.
-
Well what do you know, dodgy Thermostat. Worked fine the first time I tested it. Removed it Yesterday to test again and it was sticking, and closing prematurely. Tested it again a while later and it was fine again. Took the car a run without the thermostat and all was good. The offending part has now been binned and a new one is on its way to me. Needless to say I will be back to checking all parts three times before fitting again. Thanks for all the help and suggestions Barry

Checked it before I fitted it, and the car ran perfectly on Friday night. Popped it in a jug of boiling water before I fitted it. I will remove it and check it again tomorrow though. Thanks Barry

Blowers are working fine in the car and have hot air o plenty when the cooling system has been bled and working. Blowers still work fine when over heating, but no hot air obviously. Any thoughts? Thanks Barry

Thanks for that mate. Will give that a try tomorrow. Any idea how difficult/easy a water pump is to change Cheers Barry

Brand new Thermostat mate. Checked before I fitted it.

What Would You Do With This Car And This Budget
B14RY W replied to ScoobySounds's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I would steer clear of the EBC Brake discs, I had a set on my car with only standard callipers and Green Stuff pads, they were warped within 3 weeks. I am fairly harsh on my Brakes but no where near as hard as you would be on yours with occasional track use. I can however recommend the Red Stuff pads, as this is what I have at the moment with Black Diamond Discs, and have only positive things to say about both of them them so far. As far as 6 pots are concerned, as previously mentioned you can never have overkill when talking about brakes. Better brakes is one of the best ways to make your car go quicker. I would always choose the biggest and best option if the budget allowed. Only my opinion though, sure many will think otherwise. Cheers Barry -
Finally got my car back on the road on Friday with no issues until Saturday morning. Since the car has been running again it has had issues with the cooling system. I have replaced the Radiator and Thermostad. After following instructions from some members on here I managed to get it to clear and the car ran perfectly on tick over for a few days and on Friday when going for its m.o.t, and then continued to run perfectly all Friday night on a blast to Falkirk, Dundee and then sunny Aberdeen before returning to Livingston. Drove the car on Saturday morning and no hot air coming through the heaters and then started to over heat again. Took the car home and bled the system again and the car was fine until it got parked up for more than an hour. This pattern continued all day Saturday and all day Sunday and again today. Its finally got to much and its now parked up and I have my Golf back on the road. My old boy reckons its the water pump and one of my mates reckons its Heater Matrix related. Can anyone shed any light on this or had a similar problem. My car is a 97 Turbo 2000 Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers Barry

Cheers Mate Ill give him a call tomorrow. Do you have a name for this guy?
-
Already been in touch with them. £30, which is pretty good but they want me to remove it myself. If I can find someone with the know how/tools to do the job, then fantastic.
-
I have a traders policy. You dont get glass cover
-
Not long off the phone to them and they want £470 supplied and fitted, as they get there screen from Subaru. They will fit new screen and remove my old one for £76, if I can find a replacement.
-
Does anyone know where I can get a windscreen for my 97 Turbo 2000 (saloon) As I dont have the funds to pay the amount Subaru would like to charge me. I have a traders policy which is why I dont just get it replaced on my insurance. Thanks for any help Barry

Sounds like a loose jubilee clip/hose clamp on your bottom radiator hose. Or the hose is burst.

Yes you can keep the arch guards if rolling the front arches. I have mine done. You need to make up small L shaped brackets and Tiger Seal (or similar) to your newly rolled arches. Simply a case of then drilling your brackets and securing your plastic arch guards with self tappers. Mine are held on with 4 brackets on either side, and have been for about 2 years Hope this is of some use. Cheers Barry

A bit out your way mate but Magma in Bathgate, without a doubt best in the business. 01506 632766 Are you planning on getting all your windows done? If so you will no doubt be asked to remove the fronts as its now illegal and has been for a while. This is due to all glass now being factory tinted and even with the lightest smoke on the front they do not omit enough light, according to the Traffic Police light metre. I have had mine done for years with no hassle, limo tint on the back 3 and lightest smoke on the fronts (visually a big difference between front and back) but know people who have been back hours later to have the fronts removed. Hope this helps Barry
