  1. Hi guys,

Ive got a very intermitent problem with my RA,its a ver4 sti ra.Every now and again the car will cut out and is a bitch to start, the Commander shows AF-1 which is the air flow sensor. When the problem first happened i disconnected and reconnected the maf plug and the car started first time.

Like i say this is an intermitent problem,so ive been monitering the Air flow via the Commander and all seems well,on idle 0.80 volts with the voltage rising when driving ie 2.90 volts at around 3k rpm

There's no eratic idle or hesitation whilst driving, and the car cuts out if you disconect the maf plug when the engine is running.

The maf is the orange label type so a tad on the expensive side(unless i buy 2nd hand) just to rule that out.

Do you think my Maf is knackered?

Gus, pop in if you are passing, I have a spare Sti 3-4 maf here, if its the same unit you are welcome to try it for a while to help track it down.

    cheers

  2. 3rd time lucky, and I'd just like to say a big thanks to Andy Forrest for his patience and great mapping work, and to Dunc at Hypertech for sorting out the few minor issues I had last week :) .

Managed to get around 336bhp/325ftlb and a very useable amount of power from the TD05 16g and supporting mods, with a little bit more still to come. The only downside of all this is that it took me two and a half hours to get home afterwards, when it only took me 1 hour on the way there ;).

Lovin the big grin now :D:D:D:D

P.S. Andy, the restrictor has really smoothed out the boost needle no end, cheers :)

No problem Phil, glad it was all good in the end, they can be frustrating things these scoobs !

    cheers

  3. So £280 to map a Simtek is this right?

Only if it had not previously been mapped by me.

Ecutek custom remap including licence for MY99- MY09 is £470+v (GB > £430+v)

To supply, fit and map a new Apexi PFC and Commander is £895+v (GB > £855+v)

To supply, fit and map a new 93-00 Simtek is £895+v (GB > £855+v)

To supply, fit and map a new 01-05 Simtek is £1095+v (GB > £1055+v)

To map customers own supply Power FC/Simtek/Autronic/Hydra is £280+v (GB > £240+v)

    ESl custom mapping 93-96 cars £560+v (GB > £520+v)

Remap of one of my previous Apexi/Ecutek/ESL/Autronic/Simtek maps is £195+v (GB > £170+v)

Is there a timeframe as to when the booking would have to be taken within ?

    I'm a maybe at the moment...under review !

Ideally between 24th May and the 6th of July if possible for these Group buy rates.

Discount including vat works out at £47.00 for all new maps.

    cheers

  4. Well thats me out of the running now. I think I'll avoid racing you from now on so I can hold on to my undefeated title :).

Did you take any before figures to see how much the high boost added?

Yes, from memory it was 485bhp at 1.2bar, 604bhp at 1.6 bar and 644bhp with a misfire limiting rpm to 6500 at 1.75 bar but then John made some adjustment to the rundown losses on the graph as they were adding a false amount to the flywheel power so it corrected to 'only' 619bhp.

I think Chris took some pics/video so may have some more detail

  5. We had a few issues during mapping, later traced to wireing problem on no3 injector plug. Even so Andy had a short window to check and remap Chris's car, still without NOS and running fairly low boost 1.7 I recall. 615/620 BHP :D were the figures it ran, still very impressive with a good deal more to come according to Andy. I agree the power doesn't tail of at the top end, it just keeps climbing. Oh and don't forget the NOS.

Good to hear you found the issue Steve, tricky one when it was intermittent and only at high boost 6000+ rpm !

Yes it was good power for the boost (1.75bar) I think once its wound up to 7000rpm and also boosting to the full potential of the turbo it may well increase by a further 30-40 bhp......then add the 75 shot !!

    Andy.

  6. I have only ever had 1 request to open an ECU for the owner to tweek the map himself and that was Paul. I agree you shouldn't be 'locked out' of your own ECU however Ecutek have to protect their investment in man hours, developing this software, which has been to the benefit of the whole Subaru community for many years.

Ecutek have now been supplying a professional, fully tested product for around 10 years and as I mentioned previously, have produced many performance cars direct from the factory, complete with full Subaru warranty.

Gaining this level of manufacturer and consumer confidence and respect has taken quite some investment, so to have someone come and "copy" "paste" a Prodrive PPP map for example is surely not what they would like to see happen. This will have involved Prodrive staff in hundreds of hours of development work in a number of countrys, under different climate conditions, using different grades of fuel.

I think that trying to protect their work from plaigiarism or piracy is quite understandable.

    cheers

  7. The Ecutek licence remains with the ECU. Any Ecutek tuner can then gain free access to that ECU although they can only write to it with their own work, this simply protects the original tuners work from copying (or used to).

There was a facility to 'lock' the ECU to one tuner but nobody does that as far as I'm aware. Ecutek dealers can also put the ECU back to standard free of charge should someone wish to start tuning it themselves.

Recent 'pirate' software now allows free copying of Ecutek maps, there are now some OS guys out there collecting a nice portfolio of other tuners hard work !

The Ecutek tuning licences can now be bought in 'bulk' for purposes such as group buys etc, this way it adds only £125 to the initial mapping costs with no future licence fees applying.

    cheers

    Andy
