  1. It was over 1.4 miles, the car was still accelerating as it passed the timing beams.

It was running 7560 rpm at 199.4 on my custom gearing set. The limiter is at 8400 although power starts to tail off from 8000 onwards.....unless I hit the nos button..... in which case it just keeps going face-icon-small-happy.gif

I didn't use the nos for this top speed run although with hindsight a little 'jag' would have been order of the day I think face-icon-small-wink.gif

  2. Today we had a Scoob v EVO shootout at Bruntingthorpe proving ground.

It proved one thing, Scoobs are faster and more reliable than EVO's

Or at least they certainly were today.

I ran 197mph then 198mph next run, then 199.4mph and we ran out of time to try again !

Now, where can I find that last 0.6 mph face-icon-small-happy.gif

    Andy

(with hindsight, I think dropping off my 11 stone passenger may just have done it !)

  3. Hi Dipsy

Steve and Stuart at SW racing have indeed helped me with the car recently.

Initially I pulled together the spec and built the engine myself last year. Recently when I gave the engine a spec update, Steve stripped and reassembled the bottom end whilst I rebuilt the heads with the new cams and high rpm valve gear.

All 3 of us had an input to the new custom inlet manifold.

Initially I designed it, Steve done most of the fabrication and Stuart done all the alloy welding.

Stuart also welded up my new FMIC end tanks and connecting pipework.

If anyone needs some specialist machining or fabrication work the these are the guys to speak to.

These are the ONLY guys I have ever entrusted to work on my car, what more can I say !

  4. Knock control on the pre 98 ECU's is somewhat suspect, whether chipped or not. The Power FC can be set to flash the check engine light to warn of any knock taking place, saves buying a knocklink !

Another thing to consider is the residual value of an Apexi Power FC which is a complete replacement ECU.

Typically they still sell for £400+ secondhand.

  5. Just to clarify a few areas where a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing face-icon-small-wink.gif

"It doesn't matter which gear you use on these dynos."

    >>>It does if the ECU has been mapped with gear dependant boost and wastegate control, optimised on the road for a dynamic ramp rate completely different to the rollers.

"Ask Dasktek UK if you want confirmation on that."

    >>>I have discussed this with Gerry, I'm sure he is aware of it.

"Your car was making it's boost targets in 3rd."

    >>> Interesting, what was the target I mapped in for 3rd gear ?

"The advance multipliers on your car were checked and were still at maximum."

    >>> This means nothing in this context and should only ever be considered as a long term indicator, short term knock correction can be massive without altering the AM

"The dyno is Dastek, thus the fans and every other facet are Dastek, so identical to Dastek UK in Dalgety Bay. Indeed using your own charge temp gauge the start temp was only 18 C in Aberdeen and you said it was 24 C at Dastek UK."

    >>> The operation however can change the final figure as most operators are aware.

The car in question was tuned for road performance, not to be a dyno queen face-icon-small-wink.gif however I appreciate the frustration that can be created when different readings are achieved.

More info on dynos and some reasons for different readings...... for those still reading face-icon-small-wink.gif -

  6. Wrong forum I know but I have a few scoob launch vid clips that I was hoping to make into an animated gif for my profile.

I've researched how to do this but gave up when it got me in too deep face-icon-small-happy.gif

Anyone good at this sort of thing ??

    cheers

  8. This was a run without the nos, first warm up run of the day to put some heat in the transmission before 'going for it'

Lots of wheelspin off the line on the cold tyres.

Unfortunately I fried the clutch on the next "full bore" launch after I let the tyres down a bit to try and stop the wheelspin off the line.

A 12 hr roundtrip for one competitive run !

Still, at 9.82 @ 144mph it's a new UK record for no Nitrous, beating the previous totb with-Nitrous record face-icon-small-smile.gif

  9. Thanks Guys/Girls, it really was an excellent day with 6 runs in the 9's face-icon-small-smile.gif

Best time was 9.81 secs at 147.5 mph

In the final I somehow got the box stuck in 2nd gear until I was on the return road back round when it came out again ok !

    cheers

    Andy

  10. Excuse me if this has been linked to already, but here is an in-car video of my one and only run at totb4.

    My scoob thrashed

The picture at the bottom of the post is the pre run burnout in the video.

This was a 10.4 @140mph, no nitrous run, it has run 10.1 @ 140mph when I do a better job of controlling the wheelspin !

    For reference the tall gearing/tyres on this car allows 60mph in 1st, 98mph in 2nd , 128 mph in 3rd and 160mph in 4th

  11. Hope to have another centre diff in my car for Sunday.....then give it hell up the strip face-icon-small-happy.gif

    Andy

PS Cant change my profile as i get this.....

    ERROR:

An error occurred while evaluating the expression:

Error near line 240, column 8.

Parameter 2 of function Left which is now "-1" must be a positive integer

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (CFSET), occupying document position (240:2) to (240:41).

    Whats that all about ???

  12. <<

You will find that wallace performance have mapped at least as many cars as Mr Forrest, with similar results. I am sure Andy himself wouldn't argue with that.

    >>

    I would actually !

I have been mapping Subarus for over 4 years now and have had the fastest Subarus in the UK for over 3 of those years. My own cars have been continually in development, testing parts and settings for optimum output and reliability. I don't believe in experimenting on customers cars.

I only map Subarus, nothing else. My full time occupation is mapping Subarus.

To summarise, I doubt if WP have mapped close to 10% of the cars I have and they certainly have not achieved the same results !

You could always call an independant Subaru specialist such as AWD Motorsport Engineering in Perth and ask their opinion, they have experience of both.

    regards

    Andy

  13. Sorry guys, not going to manage to make it to this one. See you next time.
