Jimser - cheers for your help - should be able to get the wiring/plumbing sorted now cheers alex

Cheers gents jimser - I think you have an Sti 5 like mine so that would be best option - what day suits you best - JC - cheers alex

has anyone got a 99 impreza in the renfrewshire area that i could come over and look at. presently trying to put the wiring and plumbing back together and wouldnt mind a reminder at what its supposed to look like! thanks in advance Alex

Hi just fitted a wiring loom from another car at position 2 i am getting all the usual stuff, dash , lights and all the sensors are priming themselves (throttle etc) however when i turn of start it all gets cut. I am assuming this is an immobiliser issue - does anyone know does this cut the live to the starter motor and the fuel pump only any advice gratefully received cheers Alex

thanks alan, yes did get that checked and its as it should be cheers alex

on 2 occasions after being driven hard (in competition) i have had engine oil blow out through the turbo. there is patches of oil coming through the dump valve and the boost solenoid. The car blew blue smoke after starting but it went away after running the car. THe first time i assumed the turbo seals and took the turbo off and got it checked, nothing wrong with turbo. Cleaned out all the pipes and intercooler (which was coated with oil) been running the car no probs no blue smoke. On the track yesterday after a couple of hard runs blue smoke again and oil through the solenoid and dump valve. any ideas? is this potentially a breather problem or could it be as simple as overfilled oil (although it looks ok). engine is running fine, no noises, checked oil not water in it and no oil in water. no loss of performance. any pointers would be gratefully received cheers za

the omp cage requires the dashboard to be cut and it aint pretty as there is no structure behind it. cheers alex
-
I agree,.......................Dave did nothing! cheers Johnny, its almost there and when you get there you change something you should come down to the one of the sprints at kames if you havent before, you can get the dates from the East Ayrshire Car Club website, theres one in late april. Normally a good turnout of scoobs and if its not raining not a bad day out on a sunday

I have the OMP cage in my car but its a competition car and would not recommend it for road use The dash requires to be cut and the construction of the dash means that it losses all strength so looks crap when cut.The cage also make things like having a rear view mirror difficult and it does reduce visibility to the rear. As stated it still requires welding and you cant use the back seats. No problem for me but i wouldnt want it in a road car cheers za

V-max events in Scotland? - DOES ANYONE HAVE A RUNWAY!?!?!
za - sti replied to st3ph3n's topic in Scottish Scoobies
accomodation wouldnt be a problem, there is a camp site about a mile away and plenty of B&Bs the problem will be the weather, choosing a weekend will be difficult but from experience May is usually the best month although we were in swimming at Machrihanish in July this year. cheers za -
V-max events in Scotland? - DOES ANYONE HAVE A RUNWAY!?!?!
za - sti replied to st3ph3n's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi guys, I am from Campbeltown and it is the longest runway in Europe. I have been on it many years ago with a couple of local bike nuts and thats when it was still operational. This follows an idea I had for a Scottish SIDC day as it is something that the local enterprise company may support. I was thinking of combining this with a Sprint, or single stage tarmac events, 1/4 mile, figure 8, etc for even the locals to join in. On a good May weekend the location is splendid and the beach is next door if you need to know anything let me know za-sti -
Cheers Alan, no its just thinking about future plans the car is running the standard 440cc injectors but with the 2.5 this will be a limiting factor, along with the turbo, TMIC, 2.5inch exhaust. was just wondering if it was worth fitting the biggest ones now rather than changing them when things get out of control as they usually do cheers
-
when matching injectors to your power requirements how important is it if the injectors are oversived ie 850cc ones for below 400bhp engine does this create an overfuelling issue or do they just operate well below capacity cheers za

in the process of buying one of these but not sure how it works. The standard intercooler requires air to be forced through its fins via the scoop and the rubber seal under the scoop that fits into the recess on the intercooler. If you take away the rubber seal , the intercooler doesnt work. The hyperflow appears to be completely flat with no recess for the rubber seal - what happens to the seal? Any comments would be helpful cheers za

Dave, noted but can get a Sti 7 one for not much whereas I see I can get a FMIC from flat4 for £350 cheers za
-
can anyone confirm if they have successfully fitted a top mount intercooler from a Sti 7 or 8 to a classic is there any difference between the 7 & 8 type intercoolers? cheers za
-
its a classic not sure about the FMIC, that alone would probably increase power to 350bhp but going to be limited by turbo, injectors and 2.5inch exhaust cheers za
-
further to my last post engine now run in and re-mapped 330 bhp @ 5200 rpm 401 lb/ft torque @ 3500rpm - 350 @ 3000rpm 1.4 bar boost at 3500rpm, reducing to 1.1 @ 5000rpm This is a standard 2.5 USA Sti short block, 440 injectors, TMIC, VF35 could get more if change FMIC, injectord TD05 biggest problem is EGT, running at 1.4 bar @ 5000rpm gave 300bhp, reducing the boost gave more power as ignition could be advanced further. unfortantely had it a Forrestburn hillclimb on Sun only for it to pee down heavy, broke traction very easily! cheers za
-
John, TEG did the work and was mapped by Steve Simpson Ozzy, thanks for explaining Darryll, this is a competition car so torque more important as a general rule. What i am also looking for is quick spool. The VF35 that I am using is not good for high end power however the torque band will probably end at 5500rpm. I should have said those RR results were at 3000rpm The power is going to be restricted by the turbo, 2.5 inch exhaust, top mount, 440 injectors. I am looking for about 330bhp and 350lbft torque but will need to see. cheers for the interest za
-
just fitted a 2.5 sti short block to my STi 5. what a difference. Its on a safe running in map so not much ignition advance and 0.6bar boost RR figures : 180bhp and 300lbft torque!!! drives very well, throttle responce much better, any sacrifice on revs is definitely out-weighed looking forward to 1000miles and a re-map cheers za
-
fai17/dave the car is for sprints/hillclimbs so top end power is of little use. what is required is quick pull through the gears and instant throttle responce. my thinking is that with the 2.5 and VF35, I will have good low down torque, quick throttle and spool but will be crap on the straight at Knockhill! The sprints/hillclimbs (with the execption of KH) are all 3rd gear max for me, max speed prob 85ish on most of the tracks. This car is rarely going to be flat out in 4th/5th gear. the 'lack' of revving doesnt bother me as you should be really changing beforehand as there is no more power coming, my shift light is at 6.2K in terms of the engine rebuild, pistons alone are approx. 600-800 plus fitting cost. USA 2.5sti short block 1300-1500 I am still running standard intercooler, air filter box and injectors, 2.5 inch exhaust, water injection, up-rate fuel reg/fuel pump, VF35 looking for about 330/330 from the 2.5 with this set up which I dont think is unrealistic although the injectors will be maxed out and am concerned about in-cylinder heat from running a small turbo hard. cheers za
-
Hi Dave, no not thinking about buying a new sti. My car is minus an engine and it is much cheaper to get an 2.5USAsti block than rebuild a 2.0l In doing so I am aware that the VF35 that I have is not the best suited and was wondered what safe power i could get without changing the turbo, etc. If i move up to a 20G, should also get FMIC, 3inch exhaust, bigger injectors, etc, etc, etc. what ECU are you running? cheers za
-
thats brill gordy although i thought the VF34 is the one from the RA and the VF35 from Sti 8 if not i got a bargain! cheers za
-
thanks Alan, moving onto a 2.5 motor - not looking for big power and really have no cash for a new turbo. Was going to use the 35 as it spools quickly. I know this sometime suffers from boost creep but in sprinting/hills never in 4th or 5th - well not intentionally! was wondering if swapping the housing from the VF28 would make a better combination or not regards za
