  1. Andy forgot to mention that you have to be of a trusting persuasion: unless you can afford your own dyno setup you are going to end up mapping peoples cars while they are driving them. I have huge problems with public transport, or even getting a lift from someone I don't know, so mapping someone's car from the passenger seat at xxx mph is a hugely uncomfortable situation for me. I couldn't even think of anyone to drive my own car at full boost, so ended up doing the map and driving it which is certainly not ideal, but when the wheels are breaking traction at 130mph in the damp conditions you have to really trust the nutter behind the wheel. Also, best start wording your "it's not my fault if it blows up" form now []
  2. Have used Jim Dickson Tyres in Cumbernauld Village for a few years now (pointed that way by John St) and have never been anything other than delighted with them. Last time I checked they were the cheapest place in the UK for Toyos, handy for winding up the southerners []
  3. If you don't mind RWD former scoob owners, some of the more interesting runs I've had: 12.4@115 at TOTB V (Elvington) with a warped engine and 60 degree intake temps (couldn't switch the engine off when queuing as compression was so low it wouldn't restart, est 300rwhp) 12.6@121 at Rotorstock III (Shakespeare County Raceway) blowing diff and engine at the top of 2nd gear (after my careful 2.5sec 60' as well, est 440rwhp (dropping rapidly)). 14.1@108 at Rotorstock II (Shakespeare County Raceway) having done in the gearbox this was done missing out what used to be 3rd gear, spent half the quarter waiting for the turbos to spool back up, est 410rwhp. Shame I never got the RX-7 to stay together for a whole run as terminals should have been touching 130mph, but it's off to it's new owner now.
  4. It was indeed a great day out, which will hopefully ensure it comes back next year [H] Had a disaster personally with the RX-7, which ended with me damaging the engine during final practice and not making it out for time attack proper [:'(] If anyone has any picts on the car I'd be most greatful for a copy - can't afford to rebuild it yet again, so that was it's fairwell outing.
  5. I'm running in Time Attack so will be there [] just need my new diff to turn up in time as the current one wont last a lap [:$]
  6. Could be worse - I took my car through to be recorded and my diff called it a day on the rollers [:'(] This after I had travelled down to Portsmouth to collect the car from it's latest rebuild just for the recording, so I ended up a few hundred quid worse off for the experience. I spoke to Mark before the company went bye bye, and it was clear at that stage things weren't looking good. There were rumours in the specialist press that the company were dead and burried a couple of weeks before it was made official.
  7. << SCOOBAY and Robertio.....you have mail >> Thanks was a good day if a little on the coolish side at times
  8. << I do My brothers car 97. And the forecast is SNOW by the way!!! >> Go on then... Going to be an interesting rally if we don't know where the stages are
  9. I'll be there, most likely in a dark blue P reg 306 GTi-6, although possibly in a white FRST or a blue Saxo VTS (depends which car we take on the day) - but if you see any of these stuck in a field (pretending to be a car park) a bit of 4WD assistance wont go amiss (never been stuck before, but...). For anyone that's not been before you can guarantee the radar guns will be out and about for the day (always are).
  10. If 350 is including RR use then it is very cheap, if as I suspect (and how I read your post) the RR use is on top of this it could be as much again, which isn't quite so cheap. No idea how much Andy is, but it's not unusual to look at 100 an hour plus RR hire for mapping. Russell, have fun many, many hours of tweaking are yours to enjoy with a datalogit
  11. No probs John Had heard through the grapevine that getting dates from KH was, errr, interesting at the moment. Fingers crossed they'll let you have a day
  12. Evening All, Tried e-mailing JohnS direct, but he is either on holiday or ignoring me Are there any plans for a KH outing next March? Have a few southern RX-7 owners who fancy coming up for the weekend (1k mile roundtrip) to sample he delights of our race track. Given we'd be lucky to muster 10 cars between the visitors and the local FD's (with non-broken engines) it'd be nice to tag along if there was a day (certainly save me the hassle of trying to arrange one ). BTW, if anyone is interested a few of us from up here are doing Spa with BookATrack next August, did it last year and can highly recommend it 2k+ miles in 4 days including 2 days at Spa & 2 at 'ring was a lot of driving, especially given I averaged 13mpg, but the channel tunnel is much better than a boat. Cheers Edited to fix clicky
  13. No probs John, thanks for mentioning it to Geoff (even if it looks like he isn't coming either).
  14. << could you email some details please ...Gordon >> Would do Gordon, just need your e-mail address first
  15. One more try to see if anyone at all will come along? as things stand you will practically have the track to yourself
  16. My at the wheels figure at Dastek was almost the same as my fly figure at Star. This was largely down to cooling - I probably lost 20bhp at Dastek due to the cooling being slightly less than on the road, where as at Star I lost a huge number of bhp. On a car with a front mount, or for a NA car the results seem to be fairly close, it is just on cars with dubious cooling setups the extra cooling at Dastek helps a lot. 17. No one interested in going on-track? go on you know you want to
  18. SS-R is just an any-marque Scottish car club. The letters don't stand for anything anymore - their meaning was dropped a couple of years ago. Dougster managed to fall out with them a while back and got me into trouble when I tried to explain his comments But they're generally a good bunch. Had a quick check and no 1.2 Clios with spinners, yet There is a fairly good standard of machinery booked on at the moment with a few of RX-7s, FTOs, 200SXs, Cosworths, Elises and the normal collection of hot hatches, etc. I'm well thanks Dougster, just not been up to much hence the lack of posts/PMs/emails. The RX-7 lost its last engine in July when I was mapping it for TOTB and has been off the road since then, hopefully get round to doing something with it soon so that it is running right for next years event Glad to hear you are keeping the ambulance
  19. If anyone is interested we have a trackday booked for the afternoon of November 13th, driver briefing starts at 12, driving at 12:30 and runs through to 16:00. It's 47 of your earth pounds if you would like to attend - mail me on robertio@fduk.org if you'd like to take part and I'll give you the payment details. It is an SS-R event, but due to lack of numbers anyone is welcome looking for about 15 cars to make up the numbers as things stand. As always spectating and passenger runs are free, and anyone is welcome to come along.
