About David B

  1. Personal experience, pay a scooby mechanic £100+ for an hour of his time. The AA don't do it anymore, and the RAC are in the region of £150 - £200 for a full inspection, and at the end of the day give no garantee anyway! (small print). Plus they might not be competent with scoobies, they will probably be a contract mechanic who attended a 1/2 day RAC training course, and now qualified to inspect cars on behalf of RAC. Not worth it imho. I speak from recent experience. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, if not always too late! David B HPI is straight forward, a call to RAC etc will say if its got any outstanding finance/ insurance damage etc and about £20-30. worth it.
  2. Very nice Simon! A look that is very in-keeping with the car as a whole. (spolier through to bonnet). bring on the mirrors and splitter. second what Custom said, some sensible thought gone into it! David B (scoobyless)
  3. Jen, have a good trip around america! Will you be doing the mencap rally whilst associating with those people who drive those big smelly diesel things?... (only teasing, you know I love them ) David
  4. Hi Jen, Long time no speak, hope all is going well! Saw loads of Landies cruising over salisbury plain the other day, thought of you and that "other club". BTW, anybody thinking about doing the Mencap Rally...we can fully recommend it as excellent fun and a very worthwhile event. Not only that, but some you get to see some amazing scenary and some excellent back roads to have a little blast along! I believe a few villagers got flamed by accident last year by an excited scoob? Here are some pictures from last year... David B My Car For Sale
  5. try scoobyzone, a bustling Bristol based club. David B My Car For Sale
  6. Apologies for the off topic post, it's my first so please forgive... but I feel I should share this music video with you ....as an example of 80's fashion and more... Eric Prydz "Call on me" David B
  7. Frenchy clean it out first, £1.99 for a can of brake cleaner and less than 30 mins, if it's still messing about after that then buy new part ...imho On mine it was a little oil and has worked fine ever since. On my next service I was told the oil was old and became thin and was why it got into the boost solenoid. They also said that if it was "overfilling" of oil, it would have happened sooner. Has your car been serviced recently? David B
  8. easy job to clean the boost solenoid, even i could do it! see my old thread... Old boost solenoid thread Jon (Somerset Scooby), The jolt nearly puts you on the window screen! You'll know when it over boosts A quick check is to pull the pipes off that lead to the boost solenoid, if there's oil present, then it needs cleaning. David B
  9. dragging up an old post but thought I'd share this with you... Just got my 4 uniroyal tyres replaced with 4 goodyear F1's. Continental/Uniroyal were not surprised that they "felt weird", they don't recommend rainsports, apparently not designed for 4x4 performance cars. So they credited me the full amount, as I complained a matter of days after having them fitted. It's taken this long as my complaint got lost in the system, hence the delay, but they were very apologetic and from then on have showed excellent customer service...as has the manager at Bathwick tyres in Bath. Happy now! David B
  10. That's a lovely looking car Simon! I'll try not to park near it and lower the "high shine" standards! My 90k service went well at Subaru4You btw, Len is a very good chap, very helpful and keen to show and answer my sometimes "noddy" questions... David B
  11. 10 seconds later the BMW was on bricks We obviously braved the monkey enclosure ...but as Phil experienced, they recognise their "own". The Lions Of Longleat Didn't want those cat prints across the bonnet!! Cheers Duracell, well organised and a great day out!! Good to see some familiar faces and some new.
