  1. Hello mate,

Another cause could be the coolant tank on the inlet manifold. On early cars they are made of a bakealite type material sealed with a chrome band around them and they are notorious for leaking around the chrome seal at anything above standard tuning levels.

I know this doesnt explain the coolant at the bottom hose however when mine went on my first impreza, when I gave it some gutty coolant was spraying out a tiny leak and spraying down the front of my engine/ cam covers and dripping onto the drive leading me initially to think the bottom hose was away.

Hope this helps and its not your head gaskets

  2. Cheers Jim!

Thats the spirit mate! Its only a car, and no one was hurt thats the main thing!

Lightly modded new car my erse! If I could do it all again I would go for a 2 door classic with the wide arch "22b" grp kit keeping body weight down and a 2.35 all singing and dancing lump with a silly turbo.

Not trying to influence you in any way of course!! :D

My car is only in for a wee service and to keep it out the snow :driving:

    Good luck mate.

  3. Absolutely amazing Grant.

The three of you are a credit to SIDC as a whole, not just any one part.

The Gathering has brought so many people much closer together.

Of course there will be the odd difference of opinion and of course there will be attempted limelight stealing as there always is, but on a whole you have done something no one else could or would have the balls to try.

You also have shown the world who we are, and the fact that we are not just a bunch of blue jacket wearing mutants.

Thank you G, I and A that day will live with me for the rest of my life.

  5. Hi

Recently had my car at hypertech and duncan mentioned that since it has an induction kit it would be better with a heat shield and removing the box out of the wing for some cold air to get in.

I've seen plenty of hose kits but can't seem to find any decent heat shields where can you pick these up from or even get a picture of one and i can get one made through a relative?

    cheers steve

Do a search online mate for underbonnet shots of scoobies, eventually you will see what you are looking for and you can show that to the guy whos going to make it for you.

Some people duct the air from the bumper up the inner wing and into to engine bay via the hole in the wing with ventilation ducting bought from B and Q, naturally you want your heatshield between your filter and the engine.

Ive also seen people fabricate an airbox with carbon fibre around the area of the filter, joined at the corners with gaffer tape!! And fed by the ducting.

Search online and you will get the idea.

    Cheers

  6. Got oil and a filter sitting in the car at the moment. Was hoping to get round to doing it myself on my leave but I've been called back to work early ;) and haven't got round to doing it.

Looking for a garage near the docks in Aberdeen, that i could stick the car in to get the oil changed

    Any suggestions??

    Cheers Joe

When you away Joe? We could do it up here Ive got all the gear.

  7. not if you take your time with plenty overlap means u actually have less wraps to do because it covers a greater area. Plus down pipes are easy it's headers and manifolds that are a mare no matter the wrap width

As I said, its a feckin nighmare.

If you fancy doing mine give me a shout, you seem quite happy with it! :rotfl:

  8. When your stating how many rolls u need what width and length are you talking about?

I have a roll in the shed which is 3" wide and 40ft long suppose thats enough for my down pipe

I had the smaller rolls and dont think they were that wide, its a feckin nightmare trying to work with the wide stuff

  9. got a full system ready to go on. mani and up, down n centre, tastie backbox.

any ideas on how much heat wrap ill need? and if you can spare some DIY manifold remove and cat remove tips ill be on my way to piss the neighbours off :)

    dos and donts me plz:)

    chris

Depends on what size of rolls you buy but as a rule of thunb 3 rolls for the headers and up pipe and a roll and a bit for the down pipe. Initially I heat wrapped the downpipe to the flange however it soon wears away so next time im only going as far as just above the bend under the car.

heat wrap will eventually get worn and fall off headers, its a fact of life. To try and make it last longer spray it with high temp paint once fitted.

Soak it in water before fitting which will give a tighter fit once it drys naturally before you paint it. There is no easy way to do it. I always use metal ties to hold it on but I have seen it wire locked on, ie wrap lock wire every so often to help keep it in place.

Try to keep it as even as you can and dont be economic with it or it will end in tears.

Best way round it is ceramic coating but it is expensive so unless you have a big budget stick with heat wrap.

Dont shear the nuts on the back of the turbo, and makesure no wires etc (lamda, o2 etc etc) are touching the exhaust once fitted, keep them well away.

Also make sure its all tightened up correctly, I once had my engine hearing knock and pulling ignition advance, I eventually found out it was my exhaust vibrating on a mounting I hadnt tightened up correctly.

    Hope this helps!

  10. Joe,

Im running teins and as you know my car is lower than a snakes bawbag in a wagon rut.

Not too harsh but you do need to watch for potholes.

Im just waiting for the Xmas wallet sting to subside then Im going to get the electronic contoller and stepper motors so I can adjust it from in the car.

Tein also offer a not to bad reconditioning service as well which is pretty reasonable Im led to believe.
