  1. thats the one, do i know or pass u? ye, dont really have the space or inclination to start taking it to bits. will feel better when its gone now. martin
  2. dont have an inkling of value in current condition. car is 98 mica blue was hoping you guys could give general ballpark figures on value car can go with scooby plate 'M50OBY' paint peeling off the bumper and rust on rear arches with usual bumps and dents. cant really make it a for sale thread or it will be removed again. will pm u and probably best others do the same if interested. martin
  3. anyone got contact details for salvage/breakers in glasgow area that would be willing to take a 98 wrx that has a snapped timing belt. looking for this to go asap thanks, martin
  4. and anyone any idea why i've all these models listed at the bottom of my posts; wish i did however i don't own them
  5. car is a 98 wrx and has air conditioning. never use the airconditioning and as i said both fans were running simultaneously previously. starting to doubt myself now ; am certain both fans mounted on radiator ran together, now im worried lol
  6. dont know if this is purely coincidental or somehow related, had a split top radiator hose last week which i have replaced. noticed the leak early due to steam coming from bonnet so no major loss of water or possible damage to thermostat i wouldn't have thought. on checking to ensure everything was working it is apparent only 1 of the 2 radiator fans are working. i can confirm that no more than 6 weeks ago both fans were working. do both fans run off the same thermostat as they always came on and went off at the same time? any other ideas or thoughts, thanks martin
  7. as above, passed you a few times on byres road and exchanged the customary wave. didn't realise it was your car when you were in the garage or i would have come over to you, by the time i was on my way out it was too late. you looking at a new car? what brakes do you currently have fitted by the way as mine are i desperate need of replacement? martin
  8. yeah, backrest is single unit. dont see any way of lowering it
  9. thats great that is!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah it is a saloon. oh well, new car required lol
  10. trivial i know, but kinda ruined my day. how do you drop the backrest on the back seating area on a 98 import wrx. go down this morning with ladders to go into back but cant manage to lower the backrest. dont see any cathches or buttons. work postponed till i can get it figured out.
  11. thanks guys, mad k was going to send you a pm regarding this as ive seen lots of your posts on another site, think ive passed you few times on byres road aswell
  12. has anyone on here had any dealings with the named regarding servicing? and are they new or established. located in motherwell and servicing; plugs, fuel filter, oil and filter, gear/diffs oils, brake fluid, antifreeze, timing belt, air filter comes in around the £200 mark. seems very reasonable!! this is all inclusive of labour and parts. thanks
  13. i will give it a look at tomorrow, was kinda expecting the pipes to be wet, but possibly the heat may dry the pipes quickly
  14. i currently have an issue with a water leak on my 98 wrx, the problem being that i cannot locate where the leak is. when the car sits idling there is no leakage, so cannot trace it that way, but the minute the car is taken out and driven the leakage occurs, as the minute the car is parked up then water drips from the car (drivers side of the car in the area of the front bumper) leaking only when under pressure. leakage does not appear to be coming from the engine itself. heres the good bit. so i drive the car, quickly get it back into the garage pop the bonnet to see if i can spot the leak, see no leak, but underside of the bonnet is soaking wet just in the region of the front light area. no water on the hoses or wet bits around the engine. the only thing that seems strange is that when looking down the back of the radiatior, the drain plug at the bottom(at least i think that is what it is) has a small upward facing pipe. this appears to be sealed. just above this and to the left sits a similar upward facing valve (cant tell if it is sealed) but it looks hollow. this seems the only place that the water can be being forced upwards onto the underside of the bonnet. should this be blocked or connected to something else or has anyone else experienced something similar. thanks, martin
  15. my 98 wrx has sprung a leak it would seem as after parking up today i noticed what was no more than a table spoon of water sitting underneath the car at the front right corner. i thought there may have been an issue as for the last week, on starting the car i could hear the water being pushed through the system. it seems only to be leaking when the system is pressurised, so maybe just a loose hose(he says optimistically). my question is this though, how much coolant should the system hold, as there are 2 filler points. the steel one at the side of the block and the plastic one at the front left of the engine bay! any help would be appreciated. martin
  16. oh well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do halfords or the like not do a compatible type aeriel, as like you say £200 is a definite 'thanks, but no thanks' response.
  17. might sound trivial, but does the electric aeriel on classic import. go all the way down to sit flush with the mount. mine goes down, but still is stiking up about 6 inches. doesn't appear to be kinked. is this normal or am i too fussy. thanks, martin
  18. is it worth shopping around, or should i try halleys in milngavie(local to me). what they likely to cost? thanks
  19. whats the recommended or popular option plugs and leads wise for a 1998 wrx. seen a few ngk plug sets at very reasonable prices on ebay. platinum or iridium, which is best? any good advice appreciated. thanks
  20. weird as it may sound but car seemed to boost properly tonight on the way home from work. as suggested i checked(squeezing and bending) my dumpvalve pipes for leaks or splits , but nothing found. only other part i touched were the leads. has any of the above maybe got something to do with initial fault. eg leads, plugs or something trivial causing problems. think drb5 suggestions may be too far to travel
  21. i will give that a try, really clutching at straws at the moment
  22. could be hit with a double whammy by the looks of it. car was running fine one day, but the next was not boosting and still isn't. still getting the sound from the dumpvalve if that means anything. ca simply drives like normally aspirated car. (no shuddering or hesitancy) had no issues with the car prior to this other than when just started was slightly hesitant(not on boost). was looking to put the car in for service(timing belt, plugs, oil and filter) in the next week or so anyway, but whats my best bet. do i get fault looked at, do i get both done at same time, or hope that issue is identified/cured following service. what could the issue be? car is 1998 wrx import. and am looking for reputable garage in glasgow, (preferably within easy travelling distance of partick). thanks in advance, martin
  23. im in glasgow. west end per previous posts, my switch mounted in dashboard has 3 connectors. just a case of trying to locate the problem
