  1. I found standard Brembo set up on my previous widetrack 2.0 STi type UK PPP perfectly adequate for normal fast road driving, but Goodrich s/steel braided hoses definitely improved things. For the STi and current 2.5 WRX PPP, have been pleased with Pipercross replacement panel filters.

  2. co-incidence or what, There was a BBC4 programme on last night at 1.50 am about the Group B rally days- interesting programme, fantastic cars but a few bad accidents.

Agreed, they were simply awesome and sadly banned due to incredibly bad crowd control. Mind you what sort of nutters would stand in the road with 500bhp coming at you sideways? Hopefully the event you mention will be properly supervised and we will see more Group B. One of the advantages of being 64 is that I was there in the forests in the late 70s & 80s to witness the machinery (and noise) first hand!!! At the time, my car was AVO RS2000 Mk 1 no. 25 (with full Janspeed extractor system)

  3. Have had Forge VTA on current WRX PPP for almost five years. Lower spring broke a couple of years ago and Forge replaced free of charge. Also had same on our STi Type UK PPP. No issues with Forge and excellent after sales service. Also for me, not too loud - doesn't sound silly!!

  4. I'm running the fronts with Godspeed two piece 335mm grooved discs/big Brembo 4 pot calipers/Ferodo DS2500s and at the rear, DBA 74320 discs/standard calipers/EBC red stuff ceramic pads. Goodrich braided hoses. Works for me - huge improvement compared with OEM kit!

  5. I'm located in rural East Hertfordshire and sadly, Imprezas are becoming a rarity in this area. With regard to within the M25, is it the massive cost of insurance or do the uninformed all now drive BMWs or Audis? Still, it's good to drive something different that can see off most of the opposition!!

  6. Hey, just a minute Danny. Not all old geezers are miserable old gits! I'm 64 and one of the pleasures in life is hearing a Scooby trotting by at a gentle 1250 rpm or at full blast through the gears (still think the classics with a decent straight through system sound the best). Have had all sorts of deafening systems on our five Imprezas and have just taken delivery of an afterburner centre section to mate with PPP backbox on our current Hawk. Should sound reasonably good and still have a conversation with the Mrs in the passenger seat!

  7. 1. Braveheart - Classic - 2.35 - 641bhp 600 lbs/ft

    2. Wrx Kenny - bugeye - 2.5 - 311bhp 365 lbs/ft

    3. badbaz - best looking one - only 2.0 - enough

    4. adz-wrx - blobeye wrx - 2.0 - 235bhpish and no idea lol

    5. highlandflyer blob wrx 2.0 ppp 265bhp 257lbft

    6. Paul555sti - blobeye sti 2.0 355bhp 350lbs/ft ( best looking and best colour baz )

    7. joshuajames - hawkeye 2.5 PPP - 270bhp (estimate with limited mods), 310 lbs/ft

  8. Thanks josh, but what engine size ?, the 2.0 turbo, 2.5 or 2.5 turbo ?

    Hi there,

Probably the 2.0 turbo, but if you are lucky. you may just be able to locate a "Hawkeye" 2.5 turbo within your price range (there isn't a 2.5 non turbo).

  9. Hi and welcome to SIDC. If you can find a WRX with PPP and no other mods, you'll not be disappointed - the PPP cost about £1,700 when new, but doesn't appear to affect buying prices very much. In my opinion, best to choose this route, rather than chance a car with all sorts of non standard mods - you can always do own bits and pieces later and to your choice, should you wish.

  10. I intend to John, has set me back the most I've ever paid for a car and the most I probably ever will again so I will be taking extra care with it, when I feel I'm used to how it likes to behave then I will get myself to Brands Hatch and try it out on a track day.

Can't see myself wanting to do too much to it, more than likely a decent air intake and a remap, possibly an exhaust system, but a few handling tweeks maybe as well

Even a decent replacement panel filter helps (very impressed with my Pipercross) and you may find that you won't need to upgrade much in the short term. My next plan is to replace the Prodrive back box with a Hayward & Scott (also sold by Scoobyworld) "original" 3.5" tail pipe box and a straight through centre pipe, thus replacing the huge pancake silencer. These alone are claimed to increase output by up to 18 BHP! They also do a jap style box with 4.5" tail, but from experience on previous STi, noise is intrusive. Also planning to replace droplinks and ARB bushes with Powerflex or Whiteline items. Did this on a Classic some years ago and the difference was definitely noticeable. Enjoy and keep in touch.

  11. Awesome idea, will give this a go, did you key the surface prior to painting?

The dent and scratch man did everything in preparing the front calipers(but they weren't badlly in need of refurb). The back discs/hubs were brand new - I simply cleaned off with white spirit prior to painting!
