  1. I would give the number on the post after mine a call as its going to be quicker thank the route I took from reading the thread., Mine is a UK model but not sure what the year cut off is to be honest.. Give them a call. Hopefuly you can get yours sorted as well.
  2. I have searched the site the best I can and apologies if this is a duplicate of another post and has already been covered/addressed. But wanted to share if it would help anyone else. In the recent very cold (freezing) weather my 2002 WRX has on start up smelt very strongly of fuel. Checking with my limited knowledge found no issues under the bonnet or visible signs of fuel leaking. It was fine if the weather was in plus figures? Checked the Internet and found on a USA site that it appears there was a campaign run by Subaru to replace parts that were failing. I found my nearest dealer and contacted their service department, who knew all about it and had another model the same age in for repairs. I have had a call today from the dealer and Subaru UK have authorised the repair, fuel lines to replaced free of charge. From the info below its not affecting many but if anyone is getting the same issues and your scoob falls into the age bracket, give your local dealer a call. This is some information I have copied from the North American Subaru Owners Club. Not sure if the same thing applies for the UK but gives you an idea of the issue; 'Subaru has initiated a voluntary regional recall to replace specific engine fuel lines and hoses on approximately 5,724 2002 and 2003MY Impreza WRX models registered in 16 “cold weather” states located in NOAA Climate Zone 1. The affected states are: Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Campaign code WVK-21 has been assigned to this regional recall. In extremely cold temperatures, a certain engine fuel line/hose may temporarily seep some fuel during initial cold engine start up. If this condition occurs, vehicle occupants may notice the smell of fuel. To correct this condition, affected vehicles will require replacement of the engine fuel delivery line and hose. A special repair parts kit will be available in the near future. The kit contains all parts needed to complete this repair. Additionally, Subaru will follow up in early CY 2010 with letters to owners that it will provide an extended 12 year/unlimited mileage warranty for this condition to owners of affected vehicles located in the remaining 34 states. General information concerning this Recall: • Campaign Bulletin WVK-21 will be posted on the Techinfo.Subaru.com website during the week of December 7, 2009. The Bulletin will contain additional information concerning identification of affected vehicles, repair and claim submission procedures. • Notification letters will be mailed to vehicle owners registered in the 16 affected states on or around December 16, 2009. • VIN lists will be sent to dealers located in the affected 16 states on or around December 14, 2009.'
  3. Big thanks to VickyK for relieving my ears of the sqeaking belts! Had to change one today as it was frayed, quickly checked the forum, found the answer here. Followed the simple instructions and now can buckle up in relative silence!
  4. Hi, can anyone recommend a decent book/CD rom to help me with basic repairs etc. seen a few on the net and eBay based on a CD and want to get a good one, don't seem to be that expensive from what I can see. Got to do replacement of a couple of seatbelts to get the car through its MOT and need a bit of guidance (not a mechanic at heart, now I think is the time to start learning a bit about the car to save a bit of cash on the garage bills) Thanks Simon
  5. Cool, not many tunnels around where I live, the odd railway bridge but that's it. Didn't think I would be on my own (sigh of relief).
  6. Wanted to share a good experience and to ask if anyone has had similar fun! Had reason to travel to Nottingham earlier this week and parked in a multi story when I was there (Union Road I believe). Being a big fan of the noise from the exhaust especially at low speeds, found the acoustics in this place amazing and for a short period the car sounded fantastic from my slow trundle around the place, it was almost a shame to find a free space.. Being from a very flat part of the world (Lincolnshire) wondered if any of you fellow drivers have found similar places where it's a pleasure to wind the windows down! Or is it just me being over excitable with the car being relatively new to me.
  7. Thanks Mark, Being more than a little green with the scoob someone explaining it to me in a way I can understand helps! I am just going on my prev experience, and that was with much smaller motors. So thanks for the help.
  8. Nice one, that's that sorted!! Cheers
  9. Is there a simple way of isolating the air on a bugeye? Is it as simple as removing the fuse? Just trying to save fuel and the air con comes on everytime you select the windscreen. I know what your thinking, just turn it off with the button when switching but I rarely use the air con anyway so off completely would be fantastic! Thanks folks Simon
  10. Tried sending you a message Myles, but getting some error. Will try a bit later in case you get one through first!
  11. Looking for the white-ish looking ones, same as on the UK300, sorted the indicators which look really nice but let down by the reflectors near the wing
  12. Quick question, does anyone know where you can get a set of clear/White reflectors/markers from at a reasonable price?
  13. I have been educated again, filled the tank up with higher octane for the first time since getting it, still looking for my nearest shell garage so I can give it what it really needs!
  14. Looking mighty fine, the best use of 2 days I can think of if that's the result!
  15. Well I have a bass sub and yes my car is stickered but that's not the point I was making. There are a 'small minority' amount of people that could give the majority of drivers a bad name, not everyone is a boy racer but I have been classed as that because some people have had a bad experience with one of the 'small' majority of bad drivers. My comments were not derogatory or meant to cause offence which I think was clear in the original post where I did say 'small minority'. Not all football fans want to cause trouble when travelling to matches abroad but there is a 'small minority' who love nothing more cause bad reputation and hassle to genuine fans.
  16. so the lads are not the only ones getting the comments! Its true if you stop to let people across the road they look at you with amazement. I think as with most cars there is a small minority of idiots who do tear around everywhere exhausts roaring and bass subs thudding that give the decent folk on this forum a bad name. I think mostly its a case of 'damn it, I wish I could have one of those instead of my sensible people carrier'!
  17. Very true, Lincolnshire folk must be thinking 'if it ain't ploughing a field or bailing hay what's it got 4 wheel drive for?' Maybe I need to slap a discovery badge on it and wear a wax jacket, then it would be ok! Lmao
  18. It so is jealousy! I have the chav comment, 'oh its not got the yellow chavvy wheels on it has it', I'm like, yes it has and there not yellow there gold, stupid!! There's not many cars where I have driven everywhere with a massive grin on my face, people do let you out of side roads as they know you will get on out there way, you get the tailgaters more but it's all swings and roundabouts. Every scooby owner I have met have been totally cool, always interested in other motors, always there to help if you get stuck with a problem and what other car do you get a wave/flash of lights from other owners? Bring on the comments, I'm ready and working on witty putdowns as we speak!
  19. I know what you mean, the car was stickered up when I got it, but can understand that makes it stand out a bit more! Its my main transport so driving sensible to keep the fuel costs down is what I do mainly and keeping it clean goes without saying. Your right and I do seem to get mainly positive comments, people coming across to talk about the car - I think it was one bad comment that got my back up. I am laughing now 
  20. I am not sure where this is coming from but yet another comment overheard whilst pulling out of a parking spot 'boy racer', it was funny the first time but now it's wearing thin! I am not sure where this stereotype came from for scooby drivers but has anyone come across this and have any experience on this? As a married bloke in his late 30's I am sure I'm too old for this tag! Any of the ladies on here get this??? I feel better for sharing this with you folks if nothing else! I could understand it if I was driving a heavily modded corsa or something similar!
  21. Hi Everyone, Does anyone know any decent scooby specialists near to Lincoln/Lincolnshire? I have not had my impreza that long, decided to get the car in and make sure the timing belt was all in good order, was a bit vague on the age from looking at it so thought it best get changed. Was told by the garage I had taken it too that could have a bit of an air lock (I am no mechanic but got the idea from reading up on some posts on here on how to clear one etc). So go the air lock sorted, the levels in the expansion bottle were up to the max when cold and all was looking good. Then on the way home tonight the temp gauge started to rise, got a sweet smell of coolant through the vents and then plenty of steam came out the bonnet, water was boiling over out the expansion bottle and all was looking a bit warm! I checked when I got home and found that both the connectors to both cooling fans were not connected, now I am unsure if this was the cause of the problems or not but I am loathed to take the car back to a so called specialist if mistakes are going to be made that could damage the car. If anyone can recommend somewhere, not too far away from me it would be appreciated. Cheers Simon
  22. I still have not got the hang of this forum! I thought I had updated my details so they appear under my photo, but its saying nothing! I will get the hang of this eventually, honest.... And your right about the stereo, the first thing I did before giving the car a good clean was to remove the sub from the boot that the other owner left there.
  23. welcome fellow Lincolnshire owner, nice to see someone to me joining up on here.b
  24. well I have got the only photo I have so far as my avatar, taken after I had given it its first clean and wax. I'm going to get some decent ones done when the weathers nice, thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
  25. Hi everyone, Just wanted to show my virtual presence at what looks to be a great site and say hello and have only had my wrx for about a month ish and so glad I have got it, took me a while but got there eventually! Sadly had to wait till age and money were on my side but it was a decision well made. Still after this time driving around with a big stupid grin on my head (still dont know what the cd play sounds like, sound of the engine is enough at the moment). Amazed at how you seem to get a acknowledgement from other drivers, took me by surprise the first time, but its nice to see other scoobys in the area. Simon
