About m1pui

  1. I'm all for them, but has anyone else heard the bits that have filtered into the news on some insurance companies views on them? One I read in autoexpress was from some guy who'd called his insurance to see if fitting them would reduce his premium (I'm not sure why anyone would call them to ask this really ) and there response was that it would increase it as it was deemed a modification to the car! I'm not sure how they could uphold that as it would essentially mean that if your car is riding on anything other than the identical model of tyre it came from the factory on, it's modified. And also was told that a radio station had broadcast a statement from an insurance spokesperson, that fitting them would invalidate insurance as the speed rating for many/all winter or snow tyres is lower than the manufacturers recommendations! If they're true, then it's crazy they can come out with either of those statements over something that is deemed mandatory by insurers by countries, on the continent, that manage to keep themselves mobile in conditions as bad as we've seen on a far more regular basis!
  2. About £2k atm. He was originally asking for £2600 but I think he's slowly coming down. I've only had a quick chat with him about it yesterday, but he did say it's got a slight oil leak which drips onto the manifold and he's missing the catch for the glovebox. Beyond that I don't know much else. I do like it and if I was just looking for a bit of a plaything to tidy up and enjoy it sounds perfect. But, I think, I'm after something a bit younger/modern thats just as fun to drive and I can hang onto for a bit, use regularly and have as a genuine alternative, and perhaps eventual replacement, to the RX300 I use at the minute (hence me thinking I might prefer a wagon or Forester! lol).
  3. I honestly don't know lol. Best I can give you for now is a couple more pics but I think they're maybe just painted Lol, you'd think I'm the one selling it
  4. I totally agree that it's just a red Impreza but he's not purporting it as a Colin McRae special edition, he's just overly proud of the fact that it was once owned by McRae Motorsports. As I said before, I think it's pretty much standard bar wheels/exhaust as he's never claimed it to be making big number bhp or anything. He's just a bit of motorsport enthusiast rather than a modder I think. He's owned it for, i think, about 4-5 years and it's relatively low mileage. I've been in it a couple of times but never with a view to owning it/one so I never paid a great deal of attention to it. He bought a Sierra Cosworth about a year or so ago and is putting all his efforts into restoring that so the Impreza has been sitting around doing nothing for quite a while. EDIT: Not sure why it looks like it says M Rae Motorsport though..
  5. Thanks massively for that answer I really had no idea what McRae Motorsports covered and couldn't have envisaged a more thorough response. This is the car in question, just waiting for some of the snow to thaw so I can go and have a proper poke around it!
  6. Friend of mine is selling his classic (N reg I think) Impreza and is pestering me, in a good way lol, to buy it from him. He loves to boast that it was at one point owned by Mcrae Motorsports (he actually just tells people it was "Colin Mcrae's runaround..") and therefore I think he thinks that it's worth a premium over a similar, non-mcrae, car. AFAIK, it's pretty much standard/unmodified and it is admittedly quite tidy, but it's still in my opinion, just another Classic Impreza and not worth any more. So basically I'm just wondering what is Mcrae Motorsports and what is the probable role that the cars played there? - Company car for one of the employees - Courtesy car for customers - Test car for product development - Something else completely! Thanks Pui
  7. Are you from the North East of England? If you are, sell the wagon... To me lol
  8. although to be fair, it wouldn't surprise me if they did hike up the quotes during the winter lol
  9. Is that fact?* I remember looking for quotes for an ex over the course of a few months (she was just coming to the point of passing her test) a few years back and I thought that quotes for similar cars had crept up over the winter/new year period but I just assumed that it was just the chance of the price comparison sites. That being said, I can't really see much of an increase in the quotes I'm getting on Subaru's since I started looking, although that was only from about 6 weeks ago *EDIT: Just re-read the line I quoted and did you mean in the sense that they price differently or just a crap time to be shelling out £700+ for something
  10. Just shortlisting a few cars and have come across an STI Type RA 555 near me which sounds quite canny so just wanting to ask a few q's about them. I did try searching on here but search doesn't like 3 letter words lol. First of all, are these all imported vehicles or were they (or some) official UK cars? The car I'm looking at has the ODO in miles but the ad doesn't say if it's just been converted or not. I've did a bit of googling and come across the Type RA owners club so will possibly join that and try gathering some info but I thought I'd try here first. Is the Centre Diff Control prone to any/many problems or failures? Thanks and I'll possibly post some more when I get confused with anything else
  11. Hi, I'm a new member and am currently looking (when I have the time) to become an Impreza owner, so this quite possibly will be the first of many annoying question threads! I've been to see some cars (classic, bug eye and blob eye?*) and a few have had unpainted/black side skirts. I've looked on parkers and a google and I think all images I've seen have been coloured. It looks a bit odd when the front and rear are body coloured and the sides aren't but mainly I was just wondering if colouring them was only an option from the factory or is it a sign that they've been damaged and replaced? I've looked over the cars in question and they've all come back HPI clear too but I'd not really considered Impreza ownership before so don't have much knowledge of them at all. Thanks Pui * The facelift ones after the bug eye (53 plate IIRC)
  12. Did you read this bit in the rules... Voted and best of luck
