  1. I'm a surfer so get back into my car in my wetsuit to drive hame.

I just bought cheapy Asda ones - think they were under a fiver for two - but the fit isn't great - mind you, I've only ever tried to fit them when standing in my wetsuit! So maybe the fit would be better if some time taken, I'm away working just now so can't even nip oot and try to see if I can fit them more thoroughly.

  2. Take it its a bmw? if its running 255/35/18 rears stick a pair of 225/40/18 winter tyres on the back and it will be bang on.

Beemer? It iz not ein BMW! :hitler:

It's a coupe with 265/35ZR18 on the back. Don't want to put on winter wheels and tyres cos it'd look pish lol

  3. Anybody here used snow socks before?

Nae so much for the Scoob cos it does more than ok in the snow - more for the missus' car. She's gone and got herself a rear wheel drive car and I think she'll be grounded as soon as the first flake falls and she'll be nabbin my scoob if I'm awa at work!

I've seen these snow sock things advertised. Are they a daily driver solution or just a "gets ye home" solution?

There's a company Autosock that claim to be the daddy of snow socks (accept no imitations and all that guff) - but they don't do a size to fit her rear wheels.

    AutoSock

Then there's Snocks who do the correct sizes - but the fitting video on their website is filmed in summer - the boys wearing shorts FFS! So reckon they might be cowboys?

    Snocks vid

Fair bit of cash to shell out if they're cr4p, ye ken.

    Any opinions welcome! Ta!

  4. LOL! you serious :icon_butt: :icon_butt: :icon_butt:

My missus has a Maserati 4200 Coupe Cambiocorsa (4.2L Ferrari Engine) - I enjoy being the sensible car owner in the family and never want to give up on Subaru's, wouldn't get my surfboard on the roof of a true sports car in any case :icon_joker:

It took me about 10 years of scrimping and saving and job changing till I was in a position to buy my first Subaru. My desire to become a Subaru owner kinda shaped my life from when I first drove one in around 2000, putting alot on the line back in about 2002 - quit a job and moved back to Aberdeen to try and get offshore work, all to own a Subaru. After 3 years I eventually managed to get offshore, and my Subaru aspirations kept jumping up in price little by little - but with newage STI's still just out my reach. So took another risk and quit a settled job to move to a job on a rig in a dangerous part of the world because I knew i would finally get me my Soob!

Anyway - so because of all that I feel emotionally attached to Subaru Impreza because it's played such a big part in determining how my life panned oot lol. GTR? Italian Supercar? No thanks :icon_flower:

  5. I really like how Subaru use the warranty angle as a selling point - while at the same time using it to put the fear into people who want to modify their car. Highlights the fact that the engine is on a knife edge so they dinnae do themselves any favours. I think it would be in their interest just to STFU about warranties... but better still, just sort the chocolate pistons oot and let us mod away!

And at 50+ grand ye reckon for a type-25 - I think I'll settle for Type-20 or a second hand GTR!

  6. Litchfield for me any day over that. Have they not learned from the joke pricing that was the Cosworth STI. Still a few of them up for sale that dealers can't shift and now they bring out another car for 10K less and 70-80 bhp less....

As for the Pro-R thing, everything seems to be about 20% overpriced when i've looked. If it's a Pro-R authorised Eibach spring set then surely a set of eibach springs from somewhere else are fine. You can guarantee that if they don't have a Pro-R tag on them Subaru won't honor a warranty....

I wonder how long until ye could phone up Subaru and they'll bite yer hand off for offering 40 grand for an unsellable CS400?

I downloaded the brochure just for a nosey and got emailed aboot 3 times by them lol

  7. Jeez are Pro-R / Subaru / IM Group / Cross Roads havin a laugh?! Nae actually sure who is the brains behind the car or the pricing. I was all for the Pro-R brand during the build-up stage but 40 grand for 340 horses - they're havin a laugh surely?

That's more than the 400 PS Litchfield Type-20 and is encroaching into nearly-new Nissan GTR territory! And ye don't even get a sat-nav or a full set of the same Alcon brakes! WTF

I'm comin up for trade in time soon, and am ditherin which route to go - Pro-R are definitely helping me narrow my choices doon, that's for sure (and not in a good way).

Really lookin forward to seeing the Litcho type-25 when it's finally unveiled (will it ever be?).

Current championship leading Time Attack team, Cross Roads, has released a stunning, strictly limited edition version of the latest Subaru STi saloon; the TA340C.

This stunning 4 door is hand-finished by the same technicians that created the Pro-R Racing Time Attack Subaru – a car that has dominated the Club Class of Time Attack this season. The TA340C uses many components and set-up techniques derived from the racecar, and with driver Jon Mathers being an integral part of the development process, balances exceptional performance with ‘real-world’ usability. The build spec and branding of the car has been endorsed by the UK Time Attack championship; the first car ever to receive this accolade.

Based on the 2011 MY 2.5 WRS Sti Saloon, the Pro-R Racing technicians have replaced many of the standard parts with motorsport quality alternatives from the Pro-R range, to enhance the entire driving experience. Despite the added edge of performance offered by this rather special Impreza, the TA340C still enjoys full manufacturer’s warranty, thanks to every part fitted being a Subaru-approved accessory. As the nomenclature suggests, the engine itself has been remapped to produce a prodigious 340 BHP, with improved torque characteristics and a subtly increased exhaust note, thanks to a bespoke Scorpion rear box, which is hand-crafted from aerospace grade T304 stainless steel.

As you might expect from a race outfit, handling is sublime, building on the already benign chassis of the STi and improving further still with the addition of stiffer, hollow Eibach anti-roll bars and subtly lower Eibach springs to create a chassis that still cossets during normal road driving, but rewards during hard cornering. This capable package is augmented by a full complement of SuperPro bushes which remove some of the compromise from the factory rubber bushes, without adversely affecting ride quality.

Braking comes from the race-proven Pro-R brake set-up by Alcon. Boasting 365mm semi-floating front discs and lightweight monobloc alloy calipers, these brakes inspire huge confidence when stopping from any speed.

Despite the ‘wish-list’ of additional componentry to please the most dynamically demanding driver, it’s the aesthetics that really set the TA340C apart from the standard STi. A flawlessly applied ‘Moondust’ body wrap tips its hat to the current supercar trend of satin finishes, yet needs none of the special attention associated with those high-maintenance hues. Indistinguishable from paint, it is augmented by the 19” Prodrive GT1 wheels, wrapped in the new Pirelli Trofeo tyres that have been developed for the 2012 Time Attack series. The final finishing touch is that most iconic of Impreza accessories, the high level OEM rear spoiler, complete with an especially strengthened boot lid. As well as looking the part, it also adds genuine downforce to aid stability once the car reaches high speed.

The TA340C is priced at £39,995 on the road. Only 15 will ever be produced and all come with individual numbered carbon plaque, bespoke carpet mats and discreet TA340C badging.

    Additional options include

    Alcon Rear Brake kit

    Pioneer Navigation Upgrade

    Speaker Upgrade

    Sound Proofing Upgrade

  8. Nae sure of the exact car... but looks standard apart fae different alloys and the mudflaps.

Pretty sure Brian Downie had one on his site recently, red hatch, with Eibach springs, HKS CA induction, zunsport grills, remap... but think it was cheaper? Nae sure of mileage though. Maybe yer friend could ask him to do some freebie upgrades into the deal?

I had thought it was a bittie expensive - but thanks for posting the link - I just checked autotrader and found my hatch hasn't plummeted in value as much as I thought

  9. Real soory to hear that AliT.

Do we have to wait until ye've had your warranty work done for you to name and shame the dealer?

I fully expect my hatch to give it up sometime - gave up being nervous about it as it's out of warranty and there's damn all you can do to stop it by the looks of things. AndyF did some tweaks to mine but only time will tell.

I'll never buy another UK Subaru as long as they use this engine - real poor show by Subaru UK / IM Group on this... and they're still selling these cars knowing fine well there's a serious issue.

The cars have dropped so much in depreciation - and if the engine goes pop it's more expense.

I love Subaru's so wanna keep owning them - so reckon Litchfield JDM is the only way to go now.

  10. Nae strictly a Subaru question - but hoping some of you guys can help.

I bought a 2nd hand car just over a week ago - and a couple of days ago the brakes started making a grinding noise.

Could this be a case of really bad luck on wear and tear, or could the garage have done something to make the brakes seem ok short term? I was driving and braking ok during my test drive.

The car has brembo's and I'm imagining it's gonna need new pads all round, that winnae be cheap - hopefully not new discs too.

Or am I just a big cynic?

    Thanks

  11. so the lads are not the only ones getting the comments! Its true if you stop to let people across the road they look at you with amazement. I think as with most cars there is a small minority of idiots who do tear around everywhere exhausts roaring and bass subs thudding that give the decent folk on this forum a bad name.

I think mostly its a case of 'damn it, I wish I could have one of those instead of my sensible people carrier'!

    :driving:

I've got a bass sub... so I guess I give "the decent folk" on the forum a bad name

I'd be more inclined to say folk with stickered up cars give "the decent folk" on the forum a bad name :icon_butt:

(edit - I've nothing against stickered up cars - just using it to emphasize how ridiculous a statement switch625 is making)

  12. I think we've all had it...

A while back I was oot at the car park at my old flat and two boys came oot and one says really loud "That's a real boy racer car that". Seeing how I'd often seen them get into their 5hitty barry boy shed of the week poorly pimped Audi A3, I had a wee chuckle to myself.

Guys at the rig always asking what folk drive - and when I say Subaru STi Hatch I often get the "are ye nae a bit old for that?" line. I just tell them I am but I'm a big kid.

They then go on to tell me about their auld mannie Beemers and Merc's and generally boring stuff that they think is on a far superior level of cool... which we all ken it isn't!

Am I a boy racer? Aye, probably!

I think what this thread needs is a poll!

  13. haha class! Wonder who would win a drag race between that Super-Lupo and this shed I saw ootside Halfords at Torry last week?

Not satisfied with lettin you know it's a Skoda - backs it up with the big "Octavia" on the back window!
