  1. Hi all I believe I have a MAF issue, I have experienced MAF issues in the past and am pretty certain I am hitting the same issue. A little about the car to help; it is an 05 WRX, VF35, sti pink injectors, walbro fuel pump, hks panel filter, hks ssqv. I have been noticing a lagging like there is something holding the car back when I really floor it. I took it for a quick run and monitored the MAF readouts. I hit a dragging spot in my acceleration, I kept it going for a bit to get a good reading and the MAF readings tabletopped at 82g/s. When I got back I also read codes "p0102 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input" & "p0113 Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input" This looks to me like the MAF needs replacing, however any second opinions are welcome, anything else I could try before doing this? Below is some of the output of my run, the yellow line shows a clear tabletop (by the vertical white marker) Anyone else have an opinion on this that may help? Thanks in advance
  2. Hi all Bought a new WRX two weeks ago, it's an 05; has a 3" downpipe, standard centre pipe and 2.5" prodrive backbox, a bit of a mismatch but thats due to be replaced. No other mods that I am aware of. The car was running fine until today when the turbo started making a whineing noise when driving. The noise kicks in at around 3000rpm and gets worse the more I accelerate, if I accelerate slowly the noise is not so noticeable but if I put my foot down it gets quite loud. The noise sounds like what people describe on forums as a "fire engine siren". I have removed the tmic and checked all pipes, everything looks fine. There is no oil in any of the pipes connecting the tmic. From what I have read this sounds like the turbo needs replacing. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction in checking whether this is the case, if this is possible? I have a warranty that covers the turbo so I can get it replaced if needs be. Any advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  3. Hi all I stupidly lost my only key to my 02 Impreza wrx. I rang Subaru enquiring about getting a new key cut, turns out the car is not on their systems and they say it is most likely an EU import. I have a couple of questions, I hope someone can shed some light on. 1. Does anyone know how I can find the key code for an imported Impreza? 2. I have a toad Ai606 alarm fitted that has an imobiliser, does this mean I don't need to worry about the Subaru imobiliser; will the toad imobiliser override this? Any help greatly appreciated
  4. Hi all I have what I assume will be a fairly easy question to answer. I curently have a back box on my Impreza, I want to buy a mid section and downpipe seperately. My question is do the sizes of the pipe have to match all the way through? Can I use 2.75 for mid and 3 for the downpipe? will it all fit together (are the fittings on the end universal)? Thanks in advance for any answers given Jamie
  5. Hi all, Payday finally and I need an OBD2 cable to clear the fault lights on my 01 bugeye Impreza. Could anyone confirm whether this will do the job ELM Scantool LINK Any help greatly appreciated
  6. Hi guys, the problem has been sorted! I had a go at cleaning the MAF (big mistake), when I put it back in it was running awfully, as soon as any boost was used it would halt any acceleration. I cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner although it made things worse. So this prompted me to go and buy the MAF sensor of the guy the mechanic knew. He let me test it in my car before I bought it and as soon as I pulled away I could feel it was 100% better than before. It is now running really nicely, the boost is really smooth with no hesitation at all and just keeps going, really enjoying driving it. The fuel guage is still not working correctly, fluctuating a lot, I'll take a look through the manuals on ken-gilbert.com that were kindly posted by Chris180883 and see if I can get to the bottom of that too. All I need to do then is get a OBD cable and get rid of the engine management light, unless there's another way? Thanks everyone again for your help
  7. I was thinking of running these tests as I have a voltmeter to hand, could anyone tell me where the connected is I need to be testing MAF TESTS
  8. No worries mate, I am grateful for the help. Yes when disconnecting the MAF the car runs better than with it connected. I have read that if the car doesn't cut out it is because the MAF is knackered. Runs really nicely with it disconnected
  9. Thanks everyone for the speedy responses. I have since tried unplugging the MAF sensor, the car ran beautifully, the boost was consistent and not limp or jerky as before. I went down to a local garage, the guy there is pretty hot on his Subarus and said he knew someone with a MAF sensor that would fit my car. The sensor is brand new from Subaru and he wants £150 for it, he said it was meant for his WRX sti 04, the guy at the garage said it would fit my car? Is this right? Is it worth buying the sensor? £150 is a lot of money to waste if it will not resolve the problem. I am in Torquay in Devon, if anyone is near and has diagnostic equipment I would be very grateful. Thanks again everyone
  10. Hi all, I'm new to the site and new to Impreza's. I bought a 2001 WRX yesterday about 200 miles away from my house. While driving it back I was very cautious about putting my foot down as was not used to it. I did see "what it could do" a couple of times however and noticed that the boost does not seem to be kicking in like I thought it should. If I put my foot flat to the floor under 4000rpm it wont accelerate like it should, it feels very sluggish and boost doesnt seem to build. It will stay like this until I release my foot a bit and coax it above 4000rpm then it gets a bit better and after 5000rpm really kicks in and I can feel the boost, it pulls a lot after 5000rpm. This seems worse the higher up the gears I go, 1st and 2nd not so bad although not brilliant, 3rd 4th and 5th are bad. Also on the way back I noticed the fuel guage went crazy under 3/4 of a tank and would fluctuate between 3/4 and empty very randomly. About the time the fuel guage went nute the engine management light came on. I could really do with some information on this, mainly; would the fuel guage being faulty cause the engine management to come on? Can anyone shed any light on my acceleration issue? I know I should get the code read for the engine management light but was looking to try a few things before forking our more cash. Thanks, Jamie
