  1. Geez, Bigfelly, you want to give me your password or something so I can proof-read your posts before/once you've posted? ;) Ty for the story dude, mirrors my exact experience at a first meet too. Turned up, EARLY of all things, in the smallest engined car there. 2.5 years later, I was hosting my own meets in a completely different area, like the RO of that locale. Had so many numbers on my phone from it! :P But it all starts with being a little bit brave, confidant and easily distra-ooh, is that a Garrett Turbo? Yeah... That was my secret lol.

    aye no worries.

    username - thebigfelly

  2. Cheers bigfellys, just that the previous point made to mine just got me thinking and could see where he was coming from, It's not all like that mind but at times it seems so. By the way did you ever get that run down to the DC museum?

Nah one of the women posted up about it. But there didnt seem too kuch intrest from people so i was wonderin if it was worth the effort for 3 or 4 folk...

  3. I actually aired my concerns about social awkwardness and touching nerves when I first joined in December, namely to Matty and Chris. Their opinion was to get stuck in, so I did, and now I miss some of the humour, but the more I read, the more I join the dots... Its a case of theres a lot of 'old timers' ('old' as in the internet form, not real life, its substantially shorter), who yes, have their private jokes, but there's nothing stopping anyone joining thats 'clique'. Its a forum-wide group, just you need to listen before speaking and try not to feel alienated by that.

"Two ears and one mouth," so goes the saying, "so you should listen twice as much as you talk."

    Completely agree.

just get stuck in. If your not getting the joke then just ask what its all about. Sure someone one have a laugh remembering about the reason and explaining it.

yes theres awkwardness etc going to a first meet etc. But just strike up convo with someone. Latch on and ask questions and listen .

Im not an old timmer on the forum compared to some .only been here 3 years roughly .

You want an awkward tough first meet/event? my first meet/event i was scoobless and it was the classic car show at bridge of alan. Having never met anyone or realy chatted and not knowing who anyone was real name or user name.and only having been on the forum a few weeks. I expressed intrest in going to the bridge of alan but was scoobless.

An unknown person who i had never met or chatted with said "il take you if you wana go" that member was midnight. Who i didnt even know. She offered to pick me up and take me along to the show . About a 40-50 min drive in a strangers car who i had knew nothing about. Hmmm sit in silence the whole way there feeling awkward or just try to make convo. Asking about her car. What kind.how long owned. How long she had been a member . What the events were like. How long she had the car etc. Any random chat

We get to the service station where everyone was meeting. Davie.gus baz.tam brian etc. Everyones sat round the table we walk in cathy says hi every and this is paul/bigfelly. Everyone says hi then goes back to chatting.

    i coule have

    A -just sat there or

B - Tried talkin and making myself known asking their forum name snd what car is theirs parked out front.

I go for option B and have a few little random chats with complete strangers still having some odd awkward silences and 2min pauses .

We get there and i jsyt try getin stuck in helping put the stand up or holding stuff not realy havin a clue. And feelin a bit odd but still askin people stuff and them coming and talkin to me and making convo.

had a fab day got some great pics.

Things progressed from There i went to more meets . Got more active on the forum rather than just looking and not posting. There was some private jokes in posts on the forum and im reading thinking wtf? Dnt get it. So what do i do. Just ask what it meant and what it wS about. Someone would then repky saying this happened this time to such and such so is now a runing joke and this gets said or they get called XYZ for it.

3 years on im still here and have met many great helpful people who have helped me tons with advice and work with my motor and also stuff non csr related.and i have made many fantastic memorys and id like to say folk id consider friends and be wilking to help in anyway i can also.

point of this wee story i suppose is

that first day and meet . I could have sat back.let people talk in their groups with their inside jokes and came home and thought why bother going to another thing like that .

And i wouldnt have everything ive experienced or enjoyed these 3 years or got to know the people i do.so now if i see someone new at an event il introduce myself if their existing longterm members on the forum il tell them my user name and theyl be like of aye the spammer all my posts.

if its someone completely new and first event .i remeber what i was like on my first one and try spendin more time with them introducing them and explaining who folk are and talk about the club etc to make them feel welcome.

so just get stuck in chat away . Everyones been in the same position of not knowing anyone and their first event /meet/run. Be chaty ask questions no mater how daft you think it is and get in on the humour and the jokes.

  4. Sorry to those offendes of the pic. In hind sight should have went in the appropriate section that isnt easily accessed . For those who think it was a kid.. it was a googled image of a man sqauting down. But to make it fit i had to resize the image so it looked in proportion.

once again sorry for the offence cause. It was all in jest. And i accept the reason for it being removed

  5. Hi thanks for replay looked on eBay and found some just need to make sure saloon ones fit the wagon lol

Will check out jap parts and for sale section now,

have you had a look through the forsale section? There may be a cpl posts of either someone breaking a motor or has the part for sale.

alternstivley you can try ebay and sure someone will hwve sumthing cheap or

check out jap performance parts ( google it) they have a stock of some good parts and are always breaking damaged scoobs so worth browsing their site or even givin them a phone. Had a rear hub of them at a decent price and was fine

  7. Hillington brewers fare appreciated the boys spending 1.99 each on a pint of coke but wished they would hunt themselves out the car park, as it was scaring the regulars.

wish it was £1.99 , try 2.40 but atleast ya get free refills

  8. I think having now looked in depth at this thread that there is a lesson here......

People should take more of an active interest and post more often on this site.

Its like a ghost town ! whats the point of having a forum if no one uses it?

A- were scared to post incase we look silly asking about FMICs

B- we want to pay money and just get 10% off a service eevery year

C- we like to just watch the lights and pictures

    D- something else

Theres 25 odd people now attending a run yet threads hardly move or update from one day to the next unless its controversial.

    Seems odd

Does this mean your gona start posting more contraversial topics Gumball? Lol. This threads been a good read

  9. Need to try it myself to believe. How long have these clay bars been around then ? Seen them just a couple of years or so ago, I tend not to believe in the hype of owt new until well established or at east accepted by the real world if you know what I mean? Will it work on cars that are driven all year round not just the April to October crowd?.

    Yeah defo work.

I saw a meguires clay bar kit on offer in halfords last year. Bought it.

    got home and

i use the 2 bucket method and gave my car a good going over and wash etc and it looked great. Then thought lets try this clay bar stuff. Thinking the motor looked fine nice and clean and shiney i didnt expect it to make much difference . **** me i couldnt believe how much dirt was still on the car after washing it !

    well worth a try .

  10. Hi all it has been a few years since a was last on the site so will have to get a newbie thread back up haha. A know a few folk on here from being on .net and few of my mates are on here. When a first got my classic a few years back (now upgraded to a blob) a got told by my mate to join here so I did. Put a newbie thread up as a was new to the whole scooby thing and car club thing and got a a very little response. So thought nothing of it and posted a few threads up of help and advice and got no answersband eventually a lost intrest what was a shame.

So a year or two on found a guy racing an evo and yes he wooped him a met him and he told me about ss.net and a joined and when a signed up had 4/5 pages of welcomes and plenty of advice and help when posting for advice and help. I have done alot to my car through the help and advice from them. My friend on here lost intrest as he said no one talked much to him when he put up threads and been to a few meets but no one talking. Tryed to speak to a few but no convo. I hàve started to come back on and look about again and hopefully its all changed. Just my 2ps worth.

It seems a reocuring thi g with the new folks and lack of replys. Threads get alot of views but litle replys. I recently ranted in quite a long post about it as it eventualy got to me when i hadnt been on for about a week and just by chance checked the new members section and saw someones introduction post had a shed load of views but not one reply saying welcome. I was the first person to reply and say welcome and his tbread had been there for a week. It peed me off and still does when i see the same 5-10 people saying hj and welcome to newbs and thats it. But the post views will say alot more

  11. Well I am on 5 subaru forms and this was he first one that I joined and payed for a membership was told to come on hear from Gavin from Ian grieves when I purchase bryan m red sti hatch when I joined about 5 people seid hello and that was it seen you's did track days at knockhill so came down from north off aberdeen and no one even Spock to me

Then I found out about ss.net interjused my self and had 5 pages off hellows back lot off nice people over there went down to a meet at knockhill and the one off the boys interjused me to every one made me feel welcome

I have been piping on and off hear all the time been tempted to one off your track days so I desided befor doing s track day I would go to the highland fling this'd year got up to Inverness and all you boys were there and no one even seid hello so I went home

It would be good if all the subaru clubs in Scotland could get together and do meets track days together

    Alan

    sorry to hear that alan.

i did the highland fling for the first time this year aswel. Never done any track days either but went to the last knockhill one aswel.

up at inverness . There was the odd few people i know from down edinburgh glasgow are that ive met before. But there was loads of new faces that i hadnt met before or seen had no idea who they were and they were from more up north . I got chatting to a few of the new people at the inverness car park. But was also taking pics. Then over the next few days got to meet the 9thers to and chatting to them . Got home and added them on facebook as i had an idea who they were by that point. And thats me being on here 3 years.

Same with the knockhill trackday . Few new faces i didnt know but i said hi. Names bigfelly .i drive this . Good to meet you. Etc etc.

theres been a couple local meets too and if theres been a new person there ive tried chatting to them talked about the club asked them about thier car and themselves and introduce them to the other members. Was like cat whos a newish member on .net she turned up to one of the edinburgh runs . And had a good wee blether with her and intr9duced her about.

hut does take alot to go up to a group of people and say hi im etc etc.

but then also for the current groups to spot a new face or someone they dont know and just go say hi are you here for the meet or the run.
