  1. Well despite only having been on here a wee while and really only lurking I've traded in my GB270 today against a Mercedes. It's because of a number of reasons not least the fact that I'm doing nearly 60 miles a day and the cost of running it was becoming a bit daft. Plus a wee boy born in December who hated the noise and choppy ride (he'll be forgiven eventually lol). So, thanks for all the quality reading I've done. I loved every second of my year in a scooby and I know one day I'll be back (midlife crisis anyone?).
  2. I've taken mine off for the winter and I'll put it back on in a few weeks, I was more worried about it digging into the snow but I must say it doesn't half change the way the car looks.

  4. Things that I guess surprised me initially was that it will drink fuel. Irrespective almost of how it's driven. Be it on country roads at 60, or sat staring at the back of a bus in town the needle seems to be hell bent on finding the bottom of the gauge. The other is the increased interest from the 'authorities' and other drivers all eager to prove a point, ie a guy in a Fiesta ST who decided to pass me while I was sat at the speed limit, having nipped past him at a two lane roundabout exit a few miles earlier the driver came past me in what must have been 3rd gear with the nuts screaming for mercy before slicing back in front of me to catch an exit slip. All too common sadly... They're also pretty basic in terms of fit and finish, although who needs toys with an engine like that! Try to drive one before committing yourself, I love mine but they're not to everyone's taste.
  5. I think the The size and layout of the decals from the first image on the blue car would look incredible. I prefer the larger 'M' of the top one definitely but that said mate, it's your decision. We need photos when it's done!
  6. It's interesting that on my car there's a wee sticker inside the filler cap advising 95ron. In the documentation it suggests that the full performance from the PPP can only be expected on petrol rated at 96+ron. There's no mention of damage there at all just performance differences.
  7. Managed to get mine repaired too, a tiny wee screw right in the middle of the tread. So pleased it didn't need a new tyre at this time of year!
  8. Might have suffered some carb icing there which jammed things open. It's normally seen in light aircraft which have a carb-heat lever in the cabin to prevent it. That said with a headwind like the one your describing you can't have been far from take-off ;-) Glad you got out of your moment safely.

I took the car out earlier to top up the tank and it fel like it was pulling slightly to the left on the drive home, so had a look at it when I got in and the NSF tyre was looking a bit low in pressure, so I thought. Just been out to the car to pop my stuff in it ready for the drive to work tomorrow and it's nursing a pancake instead of a tyre... Wonderful, they were only replaced a month ago so I'll have to pinch the wife's BLandrover tomorrow and have a proper look in the daylight. Anyone know of any good value tyre supplier / fitter in Glasgow or Ayrshire that isn't going to rub their hands with glee like Kwik Fit seem to?

  13. I tried all of the specialists too and was disappointed finally found a Kwik Fit quote on Go Compare for just under £500. My renewal was £750 with Esure and that was for the un-modded GB270 with me being 32, clean licence and 7yrs NCB.
  14. Jebus, I got my splitter removed last weekend (Kwik Fit did it for free!) so it's sat in my garage on top of the freezer. Sorry to hear yours got damaged though. I have to admit that it's been so bad I've hijacked the wife's Landrover the past few days but I'll be out in the Scoob at the weekend for a bit of drifty fun.
  15. Well, that's me having lost my driving my scoob in snow cherry. A nice steady commute to Glasgow this morning has shown me just how good these cars really are. Only had two very slight 'moments' where the back end tried to overtake the front and both were my fault entirely, and easy to correct. Just getting my courage up to drive it home now ;-)

  17. That echo through the tunnel is something else! Very cool vid! I'm running everything standard except a 'Racebox' back box and sometimes have to convince myself that I don't need something a little louder, especially as I do about 55 miles a day commuting in it.
  18. My splitter clips just about everything in sight be it kerbs, ramps and small animals. For me coming on and off a steep driveway is something to be done carefully. I think adding anything to yours would just make your problem worse, just go steady or see if a little strategically placed gravel to fill the gap.

  21. Recently put two new tyres on the front of my car as a geometry issue had worn the inside edges of the older ones to within a inch of their lives. What I'm finding now is a slight yet noticeable shimmy on the steering wheel at high speed. It's perhaps a few millimetres in amplitude and quite soft, it's by no means a car-shaker. So, I'm wondering if I need to get them re-balanced just to smooth things out. I'm a little more concerned that it might also be the result of a big pothole that jumped out in front of me not so long ago, I can't honestly say that it wasn't shimmying before the pothole encounter but like I say with it being quite soft I may have just been looking for something since...
  22. I'm lucky enough to use a GB270 as my daily driver but I'd love an STi for the 6th gear and a little extra grunt. I'd be ecstatic with that WRC car though once I'd put some home comforts in the cockpit.
  23. I've been doing a lot of reading about power output on the forums and wondered if someone can answer a question I have. My car is stated as having almost 270bhp with about 400nm of torque as top line. Equally others state that following a dyno run they've got X bhp and Y torque. So, where are these measurements taken? Is it at the crank, or wheel? I'm guessing at the crank but then if a 'rolling-roaded' car posts a figure, is that a derived sum at the crank taking drivetrain losses into account or is that 'at the wheels'? Sorry if this is really basic stuff but I'm really not sure, are we in fact driving cars with, in my case, 270ish at the wheels or actually significantly less due to mechanical losses?
  24. I'm looking into getting myself a Parrot Bluetooth kit and have been wondering about the fitting. I've had a good dig around my car and, perhaps mistakenly, come to the conclusion that it can't be difficult to do it myself. I'm no electrician but then I'm not a total idiot either. Has anyone done a DIY fitting with just a basic understanding of what needs to be done, if so what should I lookout for? Alternatively should I just bite the bullet and get it done properly? One last thought is that there are also a number of radio headunits with built in Bluetooth / iPod connectors. Would one of these be a better, easier solution given that I still have the standard, rather dated, Subaru head unit.
