  1. Well, I have just taken the stereo out again and it was the power antenna that needed to be connected, as it has a signal amplifyer. All sorted now and I can pick up LOADS of stations.
  2. I have just phoned the place I bought the stereo from and apparently the integral arial is a powered/boosted one, so needs to be connected to the loom adapter, I will have a go with it this evening and see. Sounds a plausible reason I suppose.
  3. Over the weekend I installed a replacement stereo, pioneer, and all went well untill I tried it out, the radio tuner would not tune into any stations, drove to a different area and would only pick up 1 or 2 stations, I could manually tune it to radio1 but it wouldnt lock or retune etc. Has anyone else had a problem when changing the stereo on a MY06 with the integral areial? If so, what did you do to fix it? It could always be the stereo thats faulty. Cheers, Ian
  4. Well, I have just had the wheels off and am happy to say that the discs are not a problem at all, just the usual really. The pads are ok, and will probably last another few thousand miles, so time can be taken in choosing what to fit. Thanks all for the replies till now. Ian
  5. Its a WRX, sorry should have said. The outside pad is at about 1mm, not had the wheel off yet to see for myself to see what the inside surface of the disc is like, but there is a slight grinding noise when I brake, only really noticeable when at a slow speed, and certainly not as bad as when the brakes were totally worn on a previous car. I just dont want to get to that stage. I am more dubious about the disc needing replacing, but the pads are in need.
  6. Hi All, I have done a quick search on here and not really found what I need, apologies if its there and someone points me straight to it. I had my car serviced last week and was informed that the front brakes were getting close to limits, and would nessisitate the disks and possibly pads to be changed, which they were more than happy to quote me for, I was glad I was sat down! What I would like to know is, are they easy enough to change myself, I am an aircraft engineer in my day job so I have all the tools from when I was working on the tools (now office based), and have been able to change brakes on most of my old cars when they needed it. Is there an online guide that shows all the steps to take to do the change or would a Haynes manual suffice? Or, is it a job thats best to have done by someone else and pay them to do the dirty work? In addition, are there any recomendations for any discs/pads to go for or a supplier to use? I am wanting to stay as standard a s possible, but if I am able to improve using the standard calipers and disc size then I am open to ideas. Any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance to anyone offering any advice. Ian
  7. Hi Ali, Interesting next post, will look into somme of it, but more importantly for now, who can you recomend for the wheels, and have you an idea on costs?
  8. Hi all, Would just like to say hi, I have bought my first Impreza and thought I would introduce myself. I live in Edinburgh and work in Aberdeen during the week, working at the airport and staying just outside Balmedie, commuting monday morning/friday evening. The car is a black 56 plate WRX and is pretty much standard (at the mo). I am looking to get the wheels painted/powder coated anthracite in the next few weeks and change the stereo but was wondering what else people would suggest I do to it. I am not wanting to spend mega bucks on tweaking another 1.3 BHP, but anything reasoanble and worthwhile may be considered. One thing I would like to do is to get an STi or Prodrive rear spoiler, but looking on eBay and doing google searches there appear to be a multitude of spoilers available, so are there any that people would especially recommend over others, anyone got experience of buying them? I am (a self confessed) numpty when it comes to car mechanics and so some form of detailed suggestion may be worthwhile, just so I understand what you are saying. If there is anyone else in or around the Edinburgh or Aberdeen area, feel free to say hi, maybe we drive past each other. I will be taking some photos soon and when I do I will make sure to put them up. Ian Megy is online now Report Post Edit/Delete Message
