  1. My car is in at S&S Ayr getting an engine rebuild after a cracked piston and cracked head gasket and an engineer from Subaru UK is coming to check one of the blocks bores.

So he doesn't throw my warranty claim out the window I have been advised to fit my down pipe cat, but I don't have one.

Does anyone have a downpipe cat for a newage I could borrow this weekend? I shall return it to you on Monday night! (with a few beers for the privilege)

  2. My clutch is on the way out. Its slipping in 4th gear now so its time to change it.

I am quite a competent mechanic and I also work offshore as a marine engineer so I play with tools all day everyday for a living but I have never replaced a clutch before. I am looking for a mechanic that I can assist and learn from really and would be willing to pay for their services.

Is there anyone willing to help me out?

Also, can anyone recommend me a clutch to put in my Hawkeye STi?

  3. I made the move from Blobeye STi to Hawkeye STi about 2 months ago.

I ran my Blobeye for a year putting 13k miles on the clock and my local Subaru gave me £1400 more than I paid for it a year earlier, so buying a Hawkeye they had on their forecourt was a no brainer.

I just had it mapped by Andy Forrest and I am loving every minute of it with the extra low down torque the 2.5 unit has.

  4. I believe the code history can be read mate.

Did your car come back to life with full power

when it happened or did it go into 'limp mode'?

It stuttered for all of about 1 second (it felt like I had hit the rev limiter, but at the time I was only in 4th gear @ 3-4K rpm). It came back to life straight away but the engine light was on. I pulled over straight away, turned off the car, started it again and the engine light was still there.

It remained on the day after also for the 5 minute drive I took it on. Then surprisingly the day after when I started the car and the engine light was off.

The car starts as it should, all lights illuminate when the ignition is on, then they extinguish and the car starts normally.

Its a bit of a mystery, but if the code history can be read, I would like to know what happened.

  5. Thanks for the offers guys, but the fault code seems to have cleared itself for now. I started the car this morning and it was gone.

Can the fault still be read even though it has cleared itself? I would like to know what it was that caused it in the first place.

  6. My engine light came on the other night while driving in a rather spirited manor.

I was accelerating through the gears and the car suddenly lost power for around a second then came back to life with the engine light on.

I am just looking to see what the fault was quickly for my own reference.

Does anyone in the Ayrshire/Kilmarnock area (I live in Mauchline) have an OBDII reader/cable I could use?

  7. Anyone know if Andys really busy or on holiday as I'm trying to get in contact to get my car booked in. How long is the waiting list?

If you have left him an email he will get back to you when he can. He got back to me a few times regarding my mapping session.

  8. I guess I am the only one that had a good experience with webuyanycar :(

I sold my two year old Astra 1.9CDTi SRi to them back in May to buy my STi.

I had the car advertised for a month with a people interested but when it came to the crunch it had to go so I could buy the STi. I did an online quote and was given a figure that was to be taken with a pinch of salt. Went along for an evaluation (the car was spotless with only 19K on the clock) and they gave me an offer that was around £100 below what similar cars were selling for on Autotrader/eBay/Car Mart so I took it.

The sales guy did say that cars that are under 24 months have a chance of getting close to market value and everything else older would be priced down.

  9. I have Tiens on my STi and find them slightly harder than standard, but not so much that they are uncomfortable. Even on the bumpiest of roads the car doesnt 'jitter' over the bumps and always feels planted.

IMO the sharper handling out weight's the slightly harder ride.

I fitted mine myself in a few of hours when I was replacing my rear shocks. Easy job to do.

  10. I am lucky enough to be really good mates with an extremely good photographer, so courtesy of my mate Darren Mitchell I was lucky enough to get a small shoot done of my car.

Below are just a small range of pic's he took that he has had time to edit roughly. I will post the rest up in due course.

  11. I need somewhere that will take me on Thursday, doubt S&S will fit me in at short notice, plus they will charge more than a wee garage. You got a number and address for Andy Gallachers? Do you know a ruff price also?

I am going for a slightly more aggressive Prodrive setup.

  12. I am going to fit my Tein springs and repack my rear shocks tomorrow so I need to get the geometry set up after doing this.

I was wondering if there was anywhere near me in the Ayr/Kilmarnock area that you can recommend for a geo set up? I know some will say go to Progrip or Hypertech, but I have a decent geo set up on paper so will give this to person doing it down here.
