Just read the article below, and wondered whether it was April 1st... No doubt the green lobby will knock it on the head! The UK Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond, has proposed to increase the speed limit on UK motorways from 70- to 80mph. The idea behind the change is to reduce journey times, as the Government believes that the economy could be improved if motorists spend less time behind the wheel. Mr. Hammond said that safety might not be the only factor to consider when it comes to judging how fast cars travel on the roads. Speaking to the 'Daily Telegraph', he said: "We need to do this on a pretty rigorous cost-benefit basis. At the moment there are a clear set of criteria for making these decisions. Perhaps we ought to ask if we are using the right set of criteria."

So coming out of Inverary heading back to Glasgow, I'm in a queue of cars approaching the narrow bridge controlled by traffic lights. The lights change to red and the first car stops.The second car pulls out round him and goes through the red light. Then the fourth car did the same - only he put his blue lights on. Yesss!!!

Just back from a cracking weekend at the Le Mans Classic. Drove down with my brother is his 1973 Jensen Healey. Two old gits in an old car - we fitted in just fine! Loads of fantastic cars to see in around the circuit from Ford GT40's to Morgan three wheelers, from 1930 Bentleys to Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradales... And they raced - I mean seriously raced - old cars worth a small fortune. Highly recommended for all petrol heads, particularly if you like old motors. Oh, and I only saw one Impreza the whole trip!

Jeez, that Mark Webber... What was he thinking of? Acting like a racing driver instead of a doormat. No wonder the team blame him...

Had a letter from Eaglesham Garage inviting me to their official launch. They say "we have added the dynamic Subaru sales franchise to our portfolio". Didn't they have a Subaru franchise before? Anyway, open weekend is 9am - 7pm on the 7th, 9am - 5pm on the 8th, and 11am - 5pm on the 9th. Free food, so I might go along...

I'm no computer guru, but I got a new machine from Dell last October and have been very pleased with it. I like their next business day backup. I set a budget and bought the best specced machine I could for that price. I'd agree with st3ph3n about Windows 7 - I've been impressed with it. (So far!)

Predictions? Well as anything can happen at the start, I predict the top 3 will be whoever occupies those positions at the end of lap one. (Oh but I really hope I'm wrong...)

Not quite the same as I have a contract for the business with three phones on it, but... I wanted an iPhone at renewal time. O2 said £100 please. I said I'd go elsewhere. They changed their mind and I got the phone free. I'd definitely threaten taking your business away - because the mobile phone market is now pretty mature, it's all about keeping your own customers and trying to poach from the other networks.

I haven't looked forward to an F1 season as much as this for as long as I can remember - and that's a long time. But if yesterday's race is anything to go by, I'll find something else to do with my time on Sunday afternoons. Watch paint dry maybe. What a let down.

Thanks for all the replies. Despite the votes for Autoglym I haven't had good results with it - but maybe it's the cloth I'm using. So concensus for micro fibre cloths, which I will get, and think I'll try the Meguiars Glass Cleaner - if it's good enough for detailers it should be good enough for me. I'll post back in a while and let you know how I get on.

I’m fed up with having a smeary windscreen, and wondered if anyone could recommend a good glass cleaner. I’ve treated myself to a set of Bosch Aero Twin wiper blades (after extensive research on this very forum!) and want to make sure the screen is as clean as I can get it before fitting them. I’ve tried loads of things. AutoGlym glass polish is great for side and interior glass, but still smears under the wipers. Simoniz Mixra spray is a brilliant product, but its effects don’t last very long. And I’ve tried all manner of repellents like Rain-X, Rain Racer, Rain Devil none of which were smear free. Vinegar applied with kitchen roll doesn’t do a bad job, but there must be something better out therer. Any help would be gratefully received.
