  1. 6 speed good for MPG... New one on me I average 20mpg out of my JDM STI. The only time it's good for MPG is if your cruising in 6th the rest of the time it's manic.

The 6 speed box is built stronger than the 5 speed and I've not heard the slows the acceleration time down before, 4 secs to 62mph (100kmh) is quick enough

  2. I avoid it these days, I can't even remember he last time I checked in.

There's a core of guys who 'know everything' and if you don't agree with them it's just paga after page of how they know and you don't.

I got abuse for putting Falken tyres on my car... Apparently they're shite hedge hunters which will throw me off the road and why would you put tyres like that on a Litchfield, etc.

They didn't like my reply of they may well be 'hedge hunters' as hey call them but then any tyre is if you drive like a Cnut, I bought the car to drive and look after not throw it into a field so it oes no where near he limit of either it or me!

According to them anyone with a scoob should only ever use the most expensive tyres, oil, suspension, etc and drive it like every trip is a Tarmac rally.

I'll leave them to it and stick with the more sedate and sane place we have here

  3. Not sure about the mainteneance costs of a diesel - i've never owned one. Fuel costs more but it does go further than a petrol car. It shouldn't be any more expensive to service a diesel car than a petrol car in theory.

Always after engineers up in the North of Scotland, where there's oil/gas there's jobs

  4. I wish this crappy weather would sod off. I still haven't had a chance to give the car a good wash, de-tar and polish yet this year.

The only time we've had some decent weather I was in a sling so couldn't really do anything.

With my luck at the minute i'll get the car ready for Keith and the company will send me to India - only been waiting 6 months to go!

  5. The weak link on the WRX is usually the gearbox. It's not designed to take much more than you've got now.

You do hear of some running 350+ bhp with no issues but I've heard of a lot more letting go at 300ish bhp.

Add track work into it the gearbox will be under a lot of strain.

  6. I've had loads of motors in my time fiats, Pugs, Vauxhalls, BMWs...

Got a shitroen C4 for commuting now as the scoob does about 18mpg on the work commute. Not a bad car for the kney and loads of room.

What sort of job you looking for and what skills/qualifications have you got.

  7. And he gets to spend some weekends at shows in a SIDC gazebo with me!

It's ok though I carry Mace and a tazer and never wear a sheepskin coat Just to be on the safe side!

A lot of places give discounts to club members, there's some up here who give net off parts, some money off labour charges. Depends what's been negotiated with the dealers/garages in the area

  8. There no such thing as a stupid question.... Just lots of inquisitive idiots!

Glad you've got it back up an running t5nyw.

Mines a set of Porsche brakes and some suspension away from being a Type 20, as it is it's an unbelievable machine the twin scroll makes all the difference. I spent this years highland fling in 5th or 6th most of the time didnt have any problems keeping up and got 28.5mpg out of it, usually it's about 18mpg driving around Aberdeenshire.

  9. Haha yay Taffs back within the fold. Hopefully my arm will be up to handling the machine polisher and I'll get her sorted next weekend. Might head overto Fintray for some climbing action.

I'll email the ADMC soon and set up the stand for Boyndie again, even if they say no I'll be there as a spectator anyway.

  10. My old Blob WRX which now my other halfs car is on 92,000+. Full service history, no remap (that I know of) and it works like it always has.

The 2.5l seems more susceptible to going pop than the 2.0l, as with anything though careful mods and look after it and it could last forever - or it could go pop tomorrow.

Doesn't matter if it's a scoob or fiesta, shit happens. But when it happens to a scoob it costs more.

  11. Just got to say congratulations to Al and Gillian on today's wedding, almost brought a year to our eye when they got engaged on last years fling (though that could also have retina burn from Dave Shanks shirt)

Enjoy Skye and a great future ahead.

  12. Matt Neil is just a thug wrapped up in a car.... :boxing:

It was good to see a new winner last year instead of one of the expected few winning it.

Jason Plato seems to do things right, until he has Neil in his sights... I'll be flicking through it today as usual.
