Was there once... for about 2 weeks lol I like the styling of the v5, could really do with some more accurate pics of v4 to compare just where the differences are - anyone detail just what the facelift entails? Have looked at front lips, rear lip & crystal side lights, not got as far as interior changes but that alone is about £500 so....
-
Called him today - once have chq should be paying a dep and taking seeing what I can get. Now working out if I should go for a v4 and save on SVA or stick to my v5 idea (hence post on your thread).. Sititng looking at Scoobyworld working out how much it would cost to make a v4 look like a v5 and starting to think that there may not be much in it afterall... Front & rear lips & crystal lights are th emain bits me thinks

Been an interesting thread. Personally I am not interested in an RA (as need a wagon) but trying to decide myself if it is worth the SVA palava for an STI v5/late classic or go for a v4. Same boat as STIPretender and being advised by Stewart to save some cash and go for a mid to late v4 and put the cash towards upgrading the car to make it better than a standard v5. Was thinkng a late classic would be better for selling on in the future and thus worth the extra and I do prefer the facelift and the idea of the midrange response being better in the v5... how easy would it be to correct all this though rather than just go for the v5/6 in the first place.

Mines is already there but still held for me to accept insurance offer... shame my stuff (sleeping bag & tools) have vanished out the back between removing from the accident site, going via Bishopbrigs coach works and then me going up on Monday to U.Salvage....
-
think I am gonna pay me monies to Stewart and hold out as have a few reservations about buying one with funny mileage story and Smiles aint gonna give me his for 6K (I asked LoL)
-
cheers, just wondered why I hadnt seen it before, not that I even know what that would be for. Car is apparently completely standard and am quite tempted as mileage is apparently only 30K (but showing 15K) However at same time it is cheaper than other STIs he is selling which is a bit odd... May stick up a post in general section and see if anyone is in area can check it out. Really dont know what to do - one sec I decide to import something, next I am back looking at this one and then after that thinking of getting in touch with Smiles to see if I can knock him down a bit. Like his as it is well known and seem to know history but it is a 70K+ car which I assume will have its own problems even with the new bottom end. Also got these pics...
-
Apparenly BIMTA (??) certificate should be sorted out for this car showing the 30K making it more above board. Any thoughts as it sounds like it is in tip top condition...

It is just the extra outlay and wait that is putting me of importing but if I can find a low mileage clean car... The one at Scoobybits seems to fit the bill and cant help feel may spend more time and cash and end up with something simmilar. Just the odd mileage has me a little bit worried. Anyone know scoobybits or any thoughts on that one? Think the rebuild engine one although tempting is still a 70K+ car attached to that engine so not really an option unless it was to come down to something like 6K Alan

mmm. need to start working out a plan here Options currently are (for v5 STI) £6/6.5K depending on wheels @ Scoobybits, standard and apparently only 30K. Needs a new wind deflector and is an S reg (98?) Still to be mapped for UK fuel & Mileage it a bit funny as apparenly was not corrected properly on import and now reads 15K which is what appears on MOT certificate. http://www.scoobybits.co.uk/carsforsale_scoobys.htm *Smiles'* Wagon £7.2K some mods, 73K, rebuild bottom end 4K miles ago (STI9), needs some minor paint work. Possibly a bit much for this mileage even with recent rebuild.. http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-cars...nd-rebuild.html Or importing something with low mileage from Mr Chapman. However if I want a MY99 car or later looking at a fair bit in import/SVA/Transport costs etc which would mean spending a few more grand than I currently have but by all accounts would have an immaculate low mileage car fresh from Japan... (or look at an earlier v3 or v4 and save on SVA). Metnioned a V5 LTD this week...mmmmm AGH!!! suggestions on a postcard please guys... The scoobybits/ unknown older car with low mileage but bog standard and at least in need of mapping and upgrading sooner rather than later? A well respected club car with high mileage but new bottom end (what exactly is a bottom end when it comes to it anyway) with most of uprgrades already done but some paint work required. Or hold out and import something special from a well respected source...

Sorry to hear your in the same boat Our cars will probably end up in the same auction getting sold to some lucky sod who can strip them for all the good bits ( I saw mine yesterday to collect my personal belongings.. only to find out they have disapeared!
-
Stewart could be a very busy man these days as I was also speaking to him at the weekend. Just waiting to see whats on offer this week to give me an idea of what I can get a classic STI Wagon for
-
£7250, notice he has tangoed it again and the spot covers are black http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-cars...nd-rebuild.html
-
Yeah - defo a no no I think. Wondeirng now about how much it is worth to strip my mods off it as looking at a standard STI wagon at Scoobybits which may be up for sale again. Not sure it will be worth it by the time I strip them off then have them refittted to the STI but will see if I even get that wagon. The 8K rebuild wagon is admiting he may have to be more realistic to 7 something - any ideas what I should offer?
-
Looking at http://www.bonsaicars.com at the moment - eek! several lovely STI Wagons on there which I want but dont quite understand the process of how cars are updated at 3pm and information/reports etc is all sorted out by bidding at 9.. Gonna try and work it out this afternoon tho
-
The rebuild was 4K Still really fancy it and in theory it should last for ages but seems a hella lot money for and 8 year old car.. That and trying to find an extra 2K plus travel and petrol is somewhat problematic... Anyone wanna buy a kidney?

Have also been trying to get a hold of this Chapman bloke - as soon as his mobile is switched on...

Few folk have suggested I should buy my Cat C Write Off back for Salvage and get it back on the road myself - Only two pics I have are below where you can see most of the damage. What you cant see is the smashed timing belt cover (and whatever else is may be damaged here) and the movement around the suspension stuts inside as there is a 2 mm crack in the dirt both in the wheelarch and around the back of the strut which makes me think the chasis is possibly feked. Now 2 problems 1) I dont know if this could be done to any quality/safety - car may never drive properly again etc etc - would appreciate someone having a proper look at the car who is in the "know" (Currently located at Universal Salavage in Denny) 2 - 99) I dont have a clue/skill/tools etc etc to do this myself so would need someone to do the work for me - this intself will probably be the killer here by the time I pay for parts and their labour. Any suggestions or anyone think they can help? I had been looking at getting an STI Wagon but cant find anything decent and when I did (MY99 v5 rebuilt using a JDM STI 9 crank and rods, mahle pistons and acl bearings etc 4K miles ago) - they guy wanted over 8K for it which I think is a bit much??? (whatyathink?) http://static.flickr.com/1252/931868857_49e7fbf60a.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1185/965673448_0102852e73.jpg

http://bbs.scoobynet.com/wanted-18/636739-sti-wagon.html How much do you guys think this is worth? >8K??? Maybe I a was being over optimistic but seems a bit much rebuild or not? Any thoughts?

None taken Garry - have updated thread and also my last post to hopefully clarify my position a bit better. Speak soon.

Wish I had replied earlier to this and I appreciate the comments from others but this is taking a twist I dont agree with. Please take into account that this was more a rant about the time taken to get nowhere after comming of a call with Highways telling me my car wasnt in tip top condition and only mid book price than complaints about what was covered and what wasn't This was from my own standpoint and dont think it is something that should be going on to other aspects. As such I am removing my comments - as I said above it is not that bad considering that I had valued the car at 6K on my insurance and am now glad I added that to the thread! I am just suspicious of the way that events have turned out that the car is conveniently valued the same now taking into account the modifications that were not picked up on the initial inspection as the car was overvalued!?! I also dont appreciate my comments being posted elsewhere which takes this out of my control - it was a posted on this Scotish section for the purpose to share with friends that know what happened and the background and condition of the car - not to have a go at KM (as they have had nothing to do with this problem) but to vent some frustration at Highways for taking so long to come back to me with what appears to be on face value more excuses (like the one that the were too busy becuase of the floods down south, no offence but not really my problem or department I would have thought) To cover what is now removed - To clarify my complaint with Highways (and will take this up with them no doubt) are that it took a month for the first assessment then over a month for the 2nd and only came through when I complained that they had just sent a letter saying it was going to take another 2 weeks. Then when it did I am told that they made a mistake, my car has other damage (which it does not) and that the offer still stands as the mods plus the revised price of the car happens to be the same. I have actually pointed out earlier (as Gary has) that the insurance was for 6K which I thought was an approximation and did not take into account the mods originally so it's not a bad offer but doesnt stop me from wanting to go cry in a dark room. Now the next problem is that the guy selling the MY99 V5 STI wants over 8K as it has just had an engine rebuilt... any comments on that???
-
Probably but by the time I transport the car, store it, get the mods off (dont have the skill or tools to do so myself) and get it taken away not sure it is worth the hassle WhiteLine ARB & Drop Links F&B TSL Sport Cat downpipe & straight thru Centre Section, Pro Drive Back Box ECUTEK ECU ProDrive suspension & Wheels (eibachs & Bilsteins) EBC Discs & RefStuff Pads
-
Unfortunately one problem is that the car valuation as I gave them originally was approx 6K so to be fair they have covered that, I just didnt take into account the mods etc when asked the question when getting my insurance in the first place - doh!! I still have to collect my personals and plan on doing that on Monday
-
Highway Insurance Have asked for dtls of what this "previous" accident damage is and going to check it out myself. Tempted to buy it back but not sure could fix it up myself and worried if it could be nightmare fix as noticed a slight cracking around the suspension posts which might indicate that chasis is bent.. Might be worth seeing if someone canc come out to the Salvage yard that actually could work out if it was fixable or not (and actually be able to do that as know I cant)
-
Oh yeah - the really annoying part is they want just under £1600 if I want to buy the car for Salvage... I know it is not a bad offer but that was my pride and joy and I aint seen anything to compare it to for that kind of money... Of to the pub
