  1. I have heard of this before, lots of info on it if you search google for cryo treatment of race engines. It is supposed to add durability to metal components and is used quite a lot in race engine applications, particuarly in the US. It is expensive due to the nature of the freezing equipment and the time it takes to do it, metal is cooled and then reheated very slowly, not just shoved in a deep freeze. Never heard it used on brake discs, it is mainly used on stressed engine components such as cranks & blocks which are more expensive to replace.
  2. Excited now, looking forwards to getting home. Better be there.
  3. I try to always wave or nod whether its an classic or a newage! Found the classics don't wave back as much as the bug eyes who so far have always waved back. Newages and Hawkeyes usually give blank looks. Have been on a garage forecourt and been blanked by an SIDC badged car who had just filled up. Have to confess to missing a few though as by the time I had spotted the wave from the Scooby going the other way, they are already past.
  4. I think the STI looks much much better than the WRX but the flared wheel arches makes the front lights & grill look out of proportion. I do wonder what people would have thought of the STI if they had not seen the standard car first. Do people like the STI compared to existing models or is it just so much better than the new wrx that it will be accepted? I feel that it is a shame that Subaru have decided to do a complete rethink and come up with a totally different car and yet still call it an impreza. When Ford did the same they were able to ditch the escort name and come up with a focus. Could Subaru really not come up with a new name for their new car or are they just hoping people buy the new impreza hoping that the image from the old car follows? As for the front end, I have read in Autocar & auto express that they are doing a face lift next year and are shortly to offer a body kit for this year's model.
  5. As far as safety is concerned, as it has been written off, it would need to go through a full inspection by the dvla to make sure that the repairs have been done properly before it could get put back on the road. The fact that is has been damaged & repaired remains on the car's record and this does reduce its value. It is possible to buy a car that has been written off, do the repairs and make money on the resale, however only if you know what you are doing. If you have to pay for someone else to do if for you, then you will obviously be paying for their time to do this. If the cost of their time plus the parts is more than the end value if the car then it is not worth you doing it. This is the same decision as the insurance company had to make. I am sure that if it is worth doing then someone will buy it and put it back on the road, perhaps making money out of it, but if you don't have the skills....

  7. I only asked about the East, but if you email feedback-uk@shell.com, then they will tell you for other areas, I got an email back within a few hours. There is zero promotion being done by Shell, not so much as a mention on the website or in the forecourts, very strange, not really a good promotion if nobody knows about it!

  9. I have only had my car for a few weeks now but I have had quite a few folk try to race me varying from a 1.2 corsa with an exhaust the size of a drain pipe and 5 guys in it, to a focus estate with some middle aged man. Been able to resist so far, mainly because I am still in the running in phase. Also had one guy in a new 911 on a dual carriageway after a race. He had a women in the passengers seat and was obviously trying to compensate for something! Now if we had been on a nice twisty road....
  10. Hi, Just got my first Subaru, a 07 WRX. Doing the 1000 mile running in period at the moment but looking forwards to the first oil change so that I can start to use some of the performance. Have to fit a tow bar unfortunately, has anyone had experience of how easy / hard this is? Have got the genuine Subaru one on order so any tips much appreciated. Thanks Jason
